If Martin exceeds the limits and makes a gain on the rider in front even if it doesn't result in a pass I don't see the difference. He almost passed Aleix over the finish line. Prior to going outside of the track limits he wasn't in striking distance.

I recall an explanation that when it comes to track limit penalties the rider has to benefit in some way. I don't see Binder benefiting at all. To advocate against him, he got the same penalty in the sprint so should have been keenly aware to avoid same in the GP. I'd be curious to know if any or how many track limit warnings were given out during the race.

Asparagus was deemed to be within striking distance, so a technical foul. Overall I think its a good rule because on the last lap there is no recourse for a LLP, Martin said he knew that he infringed so he backed off as he would get penalised, same for Aleix when he saw Binder hit the green, he knew that Binder would be demoted a place so no point pushing hard.

Alberto Puig himself praised the work done by the men from Borgo Panigale, admitting how much Honda are lagging behind with respect to Ducati. His words were welcomed with satisfaction by Dall'Igna, who did not, however, wish to say too much about the moment being experienced by Marc Marquez and about a possible interest from Ducati in the eight-time world champion.

“Honestly, that can only make us feel proud. It was said by a sportsman who has worked in motorcycle racing for many years, which is even more pleasing - the engineer acknowledged, commenting on the Spaniard's words - It's never nice to see a great champion like Marquez suffer and risk so much. Honestly, he's not in the position he deserves."

Dall''lgna is the Taglioni of our era, he pretty much single handedly turned Ducati from a mostly winless also ran to a total winning team and bike, interesting article and I agree with his comments.

I'd be curious to know how much, outside of rider salary, Honda has put into MotoGP. I doubt it near what Ducati has spent.

Letting the MSMA dictate the rules is like letting the lunatics take over the asylum. All this aero is making the show boring. D’alligna while a great engineer may also be the downfall of the series. The draw of motorcycle racing is the talent of the riders and when the rider is less “involved” it gets stale. Just look at F1. They need a Netflix reality show to drum up drama just to keep it interesting. Might as well have a computer drive the car. I mean Verstappen seems like a robot anyway.

Eh. It was the inevitable evolution of the sport. At some point you are at the physical limits of what can be done without it, at least in a series where everyone has to use the same tires.

F1 doesn’t need a Netflix special any more than does MotoGP. It’s just another means where they can recycle a bunch of content, sprinkle on some new footage or interviews to keep people consuming content.

I don’t see how Yamaha haven’t fixed the lack of power. They’ve known about this for the last 5 years. Give Fabio more HPs!!!!

They've known about this since 2007. Valentino said, "well ok, at least make it turn better." And they went with that.

The reason Ducati made a step is concessions in the 800 era, moreover stock ECU's and software were implemented to prevent the Japanese from getting to much of an advantage. All credit to Ducati for their efforts but they had a few rule tweaks to help them along. Also dont forget the change to Michelins either

He is the man, no doubt but perhaps a tad of hubris? Ducati will dominate for a while then swings and roundabouts, another brand will. Right now with the format (FP1 counting for qualifying) and 8 bikess sharing data, they have their boot on the throat of the oppositon. Hey Id do the same! but in the long term total domination and/or the loss of competition is bad for the sport. We don't want a Ducati cup!

It's a bit premature to assume Honda and Yamaha can't build a fast bike. after what ? one year of Ducati Championship victories? this is insane. first off concessions are usually done to get a manufacturer who is new to motogp a hand up to be competitive to lower the expense it takes to develop the bike. this is not the case . these manufacturers have dropped the ball . ktm did it aprillia did it and look at them . Honestly ktm might win the championship next year who knows. yamaha is a outdated engine design they have painted themselves into a corner . cant sell inline fours if they campain a v4 . it seems silly to me

What concessions do the crybaby Honda and Yamaha want exactly? The Honda is butt slow and can’t turn well, especially on corner entry with trail breaking. Then even if it gets through the turn, it highsides on the way out. The Yamaha turns well, but its I4 engine is outdated and slow. KTM seems to be competitive and I have no idea what the Aprilia problems are.

Honda and Yamaha are not being crybabies, its the commentariat that are saying they should have concessions. Why they are behind is up for debate but i think that dont really want aero and are being dragged rather than leading into it. The whole point of the spec ecu was to equalise the playing field, now Dall'igna has achieved the similar results using aero and ride height to prevent wheelie and get drive out of the exit. You may like the modern GP with limited passing and riders stuck behind others due to tire pressure issues, dirty air and difficult slipstreaming etc. This is why we see the "win the start and extend from there" strategy working so effectively. Pecco is fantastic at it, but as he says, you cant get stuck behind someone you need clear air asap. Result exciting first corner/lap then pretty dull processions

I don't think Honda and Yamaha aero packages are the problem. I think the only two inline four engines on the grid are Yamaha. There's a reason everyone went to V4. Honda's best rider was out on an injury for a very long time and continues to be plagued by them. It seems Yamaha and Honda both tailored bikes to their faster rider, to their own demise. It was a problem for Maverick when they stuck him on Fabio's setup and it didn't meet his needs. There's only one MM, and every other Honda rider suffered.

Every top tier motorsport has aero. There's no super mystery to it. Last year does anyone remember KTM? They are a better competitor to Ducati than Aprilia this year. Granted they leaned on the Redbull F1 team's aerodynamics knowledge, but to think the largest motorcycle manufacturer in the world, Honda, can't figure this out is ridiculous.

I agree. With how long both were dominant I don't think there needs to be concessions because Ducati is finally kicking ass having last won the championship in 2007.

Wah! If Honda can’t figure out better aero packages, then perhaps they need to hire better engineers? By your method, the other manufacturers get concessions because they have dumb engineers? As an engineering manager should I hire dumb engineers too? Like any profession….you have bad, good and average abilities. Honda needs to ditch their aero team and probably the chassis team as well.
