Multimedia system on V4???

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

How did you connect the bike to Ducati Link? In the description of the software the V4 is missing in the compatible bike list. I tried several times the connection, but without success.

In the settings menu of the V4 there a BT Pair option.
1) I just paired my iPhone7 with the V4 with both in pairing mode;
2) After successfully having done so, you can add your New Bike in the Ducati Link app via [You] section > [Bike] section > swipe left and add (+) New bike;
3) After an active BT icon is shown in right upper corner of your bikes newly added record, the app receives all relevant data from the V4;
4) Under [Itinerary] you must start a new ride;
5) After ride you stop and save this ride
6) Your bikes record is updated with all kind of stats: Totals and Achievements from this ride;
7) restart at 4) etc. ;)

additionally as the DMS installation instructions state explicitly: your dealer must update V4 to latest ECU firmware and activate the DMS module on CanBus via a software setting, to enable this Smartphone comms. You can't just DIY.

I installed the DMS myself and the dealer enabled it via Ducati service software. ECUs have the latest software version...

I can connect my phone via Setting--Bluetooth--Pairing--Smartphone. I can control the music, receive phone calls, etc... BUT when I start the Ducati Link app and try to add a bike, I see DUCATI_5132... Click on it and wait... After 1 minute the Ducati Link app is frozen...

Aha So if you see your soundtracks/ calls on the dash, the phone does properly communicate on Android/iOS level with its native apps and bike. that's promising for a total fix! :)

Which phone do you use the DucLink app with? How many other TSR apps does it run in the background? How much free memory does it have left?

Plz try:
1) uninstall DucLink app
2) reboot your phone to clear all cache, kill TSR app hogs, etc.
3) reinstall DucLink app
4) try again
5) suc6? not? >
6) Try to do the same DucLink pair procedure by running app on another (newer/faster) phone.
7) suc6? Y = TBD issue with your phone, N= TBD issue with DMS module?
8) next steps of root-cause analysis...

Good luck

Does anyone know if the multimedia module is there is any differences between

96680711B

Or is the B just a newer production batch ?

i have an IPhone XS. reinstalled the app and reconnected the phone with the bike. Now it works. Thanks a lot ;)

What does the SATNAV look like on the display?
DMS Module in V4 doesn't support SatNav (yet).

Ducati can potentially integrate turn-by-turn nav in V4/MTS dash via Ducati LinkApp to DMS as data-feed carrying 1Hz satellite receiver and 4G nav data coming from Smartphone.

I doubt if Bologna will functionally add this anytime soon in current generation MTS/V4.
Also because the current DMS to Smartphone connection works fine for just Calling and streaming your Music, but combo with LinkApp is still very instable/buggy in V4.:eek:

Even though Ducati markets the LinkApp as "available" for V4 too, as even confirmed in our V4S User-manual (see picture), according to Ducati Support in Bologna ánd FAQ in app itself, the LinkApp is still (almost 2 years after marketlaunch!) only guaranteed to be compatible with MTS!!!

How contradictory does this sound? :confused:

Use of LinkApp with V4 does work but is a buggy beta at most.
For example, if you play Music from Smartphone via DMS to your Bluetooth headset, the LinkApp looses its Canbus data-feed connection from V4. :mad:

Besides, too bad that Ducati doesn't integrate DMS wireless connectivity with the 10 times faster 10Hz DDA satellite module installed in V4 (as option).
Currently the DDA+ only logs tracks not visible on the V4 dash for post-race analysis via an old-fashioned USB memory stick instead of using the DMS module with Bluetooth to connect and transfer its data wireless to any smartphone/PC/Mac for analysis...

In fact the DMS Bluetooth connectivity with V4 becomes instable/ buggy when I simultaneously control and play streamed music via V4S AND also connect the Ducati Linkapp to my bike.

Even though the DMS module in the V4 temporarily creates an additional second virtual bluetooth channel with the iPhone, as can be seen in this picture:

hnavxOol.png

This way the Linkapp should be able to simultaneously receive realtime V4 canbus data* via this separate bluetooth channel.
(* - V4 data channels to Linkapp via DMS are: lean-angle, selected riding mode, fuel-consumption(NULL?!), trip-/total-distance, HorsePower/RPM)

In reality, it looks as though both streamed music via V4 AND V4 canbus-data* to Ducati Linkapp on iPhone, all this through this 1 DMS module, is 'too much of the good'?

Here's what happens when I (try to!) play music and use Ducati Linkapp via DMS module on my V4S at the same time (as also asked support for via [email protected] :

"If I reconnect the BT5.0 headset to the V4S-DMS, I either I hear via my BT5.0 Headset a buzzing sound in the background, the music starts to play choppy/ irregular OR if playing of iPhone music resumes normally (in most/ not all cases!) the LinkApp is disconnected from the DMS. As a result the LinkApp is in this last case not able to resume the current active journey-track (since LinkApp is cutoff from V4S data feed), Linkapp freezes and requires fresh restart (or even complete reinstall!) to make app work again."

I dunno which Bluetooth-version the DMS is running though. If chip is anything older then BT5.0 that could very well explain this instable Linkapp connectivity when at the same time trying to stream music/calls via 2 separate bluetooth channels connected to iPhone.

Yet again if the same DMS module in the MTS does both music/call control AND Linkapp data streaming withhout a hitch, as I was told by a Ducati Dealer, why can't the V4 do the same?!

Hopefully Ducati debugs this DMS issue asap with the new V4 Streetfighter delivery upcoming next spring, if so all V4 riders can benefit via a DMS software update at our dealer!

Hi guys,
I need some input for comparison and root-cause analysis from you.
Please share your setup.

Here are the questions:
1) What are your experiences streaming music and running Linkapp side by side between your smartphone and V4?

2) Which Smartphone model and Bluetooth headsets do you connect to your V4 via DMS? Are they Bluetooth5.0 or older?

3) Could the instable connection I'm experiencing be due to being an iPhone7 running only Bluetooth4.2, instead of much faster Bluetooth5.0?

Too bad Bologna doesn't clearly state the Bluetooth specs of its DMS module and the minimally required BT specification of connected devices required for a stable functional DMS operation and premium user experience. :(

To rule out my phone is the root of my ill-experience, I ordered a replacement BT5.0 phone...

I will.

After some searching and cross-referencing all DMS module information (partno.#96680711B), I found out more about the manufacturer COBO Group (p.29 V4S owners manual!) and their CAN-BT/ IN2 ROUTER (aka CAN-BLUETOOTH CONVERTER @p.68) with its BlueTooth 2.0 technology onboard.
No kidding the DMS module operates a 2005 spec BT-chip :eek:

Therefore, I'm not to sure a BT4.2 or even a BT5.0 equipped smartphone will make the difference for getting the operation between this DMS module(BT2.0), Smartphone(BT4.2/5.0), Linkapp and Headset(BT5.0) anymore stable and functional then it currently isn't.

Especially simultaneously, bi-directionally and continuously streaming A2DP-SBC stereo music/calls at 345kbps from a Smartphone via DMS to a headset AND sending CANBUS data from the bike via same DMS module back to Linkapp on Smartphone in a stable, functional manner sounds too much asked?

If old BT2.0 hardware of DMS doesn't seem to make the difference here nor does a BT4.2 or BT5.0 smartphone, may be indeed software optimisations / debugging the iOS Linkapp itself can still make all the difference for a proper premium UX?

In the meantime, I opted out of a $$$ BT5.0 replacement smartphone but urged Ducati and their Linkapp Dev team -once more- to improve their game.
I still can't believe Ducati allows this sad software situation with their Linkapp to continue much longer now the street oriented V4 Streetfighter is out?

Don't get me wrong, I love the V4 sound and can listen to its great tune all day, yet it would still be cool to also be able to log&share V4 rides via Linkapp, listen to other music or answer an urgent call, especially during long day-trips.

If Linkapp in the near future via DMS even add turn-by-turn navigation to the V4 dashboard (like S1000rr), that would really make us forget all this initial compatibility agony!! ;)

Linkappteam recently released iOS App version 1.4.2 with changed UX and seems to be bit better performing than previous version.

Ducati also updated in-app FAQ now explicitly stating NOT to try music and Canbus data via Linkapp simultaneously!
WTF! Really? ;(

The /Explore/Itineraries section is still slow but doesn’t freeze anymore.

Pairing with my V4S seems a bit faster too.

Next rides need to prove if processing of bikes Canbus data by iOS app is improved...

Well app works better for me (V4S + iPhone7), BUT advise to NOT disconnect your V4 prior to saving active ride in-app.
Else in my case a key-off disconnect between app and V4 trashes the stability of connection resulting in Link app to freeze.
Deleting and reinstalling Link-app is sadly still only option for me, to regain functionality loosing my currently recorded ride in the process.
Re-logon after re-install of Link app sadly seems to only recover older data except your active ride you were recording when your Ducati-link app crashed.

Hmmmm, since all V4 Streetfighters get this DMS module factory standard, I hope Ducati Linkapp team fixes these stability bugs BEFORE V4 Streetfighter hits the - Corona free - streets? :)
