Multimedia system on V4???

I would think Ducati is bound to update these electronics soon? They are falling quite far behind BMW, which has lean angle display, tire pressure, built-in data logging to phone app, turn by turn navigation display, etc. To make bluetooth an accessory that we pay extra for when it is built-in on other bikes AND for it to be significantly old technology is not great. Thankfully Ducati's performance-enhancing software is at the top!

So I had my bike in today for 1st service, multi media module and evo flash.

I didnt have great luck. The dealer took from 8am to 6:30pm to do this. They had trouble flashing the evo. They finally got it installed after hours of trying.

Got the bike home, went to pair bluetooth, and there is supposed to be a bluetooth option in the settings menu next to the DRL option. No bluetooth listed anywhere.

Multimedia module is plugged in.

Anyone know what the dealer forgot to do? Is there anything I can do to fix this myself? The dealer is 6hrs round trip and I have no idea when I will be able to get the bike there again.

Next closest dealer is 16hrs round trip. The joy of living in the middle of nowhere.

Well as posted in the beginning of this thread, your dealer must enable the DMS module via same process as he did fighting to get the Evo2 in.
Probably he (finally) managed Evo2 upload, but forgot/ dismissed the DMS update of your ECU.
I would go back to your dealer for this 10min. job. good luck

6hrs round trip for a 10min job. Yay. Does Ducati train their techs?

Wow. that is a bummer. Well your V4 needs to be connected to the DMH network via the Service cable under the seat.
Any dealers closer to you with this licenced connection?

Else your DMS module is just dead weight doing nada...

I meant this section when pointing to your required next step: Multimedia system on V4???
good luck

Do they still have to fit it to a mulitstrada to flash it for it to work or do the new modules come with the right software?

The two closest dealers are 3hrs away and 8hrs away. 6 or 16hrs of driving are my only 2 choices. Only one ducati dealer in my entire province.

yes as Topolino also states in above link, a licenced dealer needs to enable the DMS module - like most electronic accessoires for V4 - in the ECU. Only this way it can be controlled by ECU via Canbus.
This is done via an online service connection with DMH. Same as with your Evo2 update.
Only the DMS software update is much smaller then Evo2: only 'enable' BT + latest Bluetooth firmware.

If your 3 hour option has a licenced DMH connection, sounds like best option... with the 6 hour dealer to pay your 3 hour dealer for the time required? ;)

Well another 5hr drive to the dealership to be told everything checks out in the diagnostic programming and everything is enabled, but the module isn't communicating with the bike. They want me to leave the bike for a week while they talk to a tech in italy to figure out what is going on.

Their rep says they have seen bad modules. I told them they may have to put the module in a mulitstrada to program it and they said they cant go off info from forums and that cant be right or ducati would be telling them to do that.

So, at a minimum I will have hauled this bike 15hrs total and may still not have working bluetooth on it. Crazy. So far, not a great experience with ducati service.

Before thinking about adding this module to your bike, I would highly recommend asking your dealer if they have successfully installed one on a v4 before. And hope they tell you the truth.

So I have another question since this dealer is lost. They say it is enabled in the software on my bike and the issue is the module is not communicating. If the module needs updating on a different model of bike before it works an a V4, could I send the module for update to a dealer that has done this before and then get it back and plug it in and have it work since my bike is supposedly already enabled for bluetooth? I'm trying to save yet another 5hr drive.

that’s f*cked up. Even if your DMS module turns out faulty, it doesn’t sound like your mechanic is very experienced with modern technology?

“... If the module needs updating on a different model of bike before it works an a V4...”

load of BS? this doesn’t make sense to me at all since even though hardware of all DMS modules for V4, MTS and Diavel are probably the same, they must come DMH factory installed with model specific firmware since ECU brands/versions of these models are different.

“...could I send the module for update to a dealer that has done this before and then get it back and plug it in and have it work since my bike is supposedly already enabled for bluetooth? ...

Dunno. Plz call a V4 (hi-)tech experienced dealer!
It depends on what ‘level‘ the binding between this module and V4 ECU is done: if on hardware-ID level than usually you need to physically link them to be able to logically ‘fuse‘ them with their unique ID’s (i.e. VIN/serialno.). Modern digital CANbus managed vehicles usually work this way, contrary to ‘old school’ analog systems...

Is it worth getting for a V4?

No I have it and it sucks. I decided I ride to get away from all the BS life brings and I don’t want any distractions. I have it on my Speciale but the next time I take her nose off I’m pulling that .... and will give it to whoever wants it.

there’s no lean angle display on v4? I had this on my 1299, can be shown when selecting ”race” map didnt realize it didnt have it.. definitely falling behind bmw ..ugh

Take a closer look at my previous posts in this thread and you’ll see that V4 displays its lean angle realtime via installed DMS module in the Link app.

Too bad this Duc app is still a sorry version of its potential self. Even though Bologna introduced compatibility of this app with V4 at its launch in 2018, the Link app development team is obviously still struggling generically with Link app itself and V4 compatibility.

Update v1.5 of Link app seems to have removed realtime CANBUS data recording coming from the V4 DMS module completely?!
CANBUS data like Lean Angle and Power channels are not displayed nor recorded by Link app anymore. :(

Here a comparison of same logged ride displayed in v1.4.2 vs. newest v1.5:

Even though Link app still connects to DMS module of V4 via Bluetooth same as previous Link app versions, v1.5 only seems to use this connection to update total by bike recorded mileage:

Even though Link app devs seems to stripped their app from almost all DMS data to regain some stability while recording a ride, v1.5 still is a very buggy experience:

- you still can't run Link app stable in the background when e.g. navigating via another iOS app like Scenic;
- Link app doesn't like to be disconnected prior to saving ride (e.g. bike terminates DMS<>iPhone connection with engine off);
- Link app doesn't keep iPhone from standby mode (i.e. screen off) when in use, not even when actively displayed onscreen (like all properly coded track logging apps do by default?!);

In last 2 cases Link app displays this Message when turning iPhone screen back on:

As you can see, Link app stopped logging track 2/3 of short ride when iPhone went in standby mode.

Fazit: Link app is in its v1.5 iteration is more basic in respect to V4-DMS connectivity and still full off basic flaws as described, still preventing it from being a useful logging tool.

'Funny' thing is: DMH is still selling DMS modules via Dealerships to MTS, Diavel and all V4 type customers regardless of their Link app v1.5 is still in a sad sad sorry state. :(

It's been pretty useless to me too. I may be using it wrong, but it seems to be more hassle than worth.

The app connects to the bike every time I ride, but there is absolutely no data on any ride. If I have to go in and save before turning the bike off(maybe this is where I am messing up) then it just isn't worth it.

At least on my BMW, it works in the background and auto saves after a set time of non movement... that time being specified by me in the app. And it works while my Garmin Nav app is connected and running data, and while streaming music through the dash...

Unbelievable. So Ducati's solution for their outdated technology is not to upgrade the tech but instead delete functionality from the app?!!! And it still doesn't work. How many years have they been selling this shonky product to unsuspecting customers under their premium brand? What a disgrace!
