Thanks for sharing the build Chris..

IS it me or does our bikes look sexier without fairings?

Properly modded R1M trumps 'em all...at least this year

192 rwhp easy

You see I don't get caught up in HP figures or compression test shootouts I only go by how the bike feels . The lightweight internals of the R makes it rev like a MF while the 1299 heavy internals makes it feel lazy IMO .
A dyno is a tuning tool not .... measuring device .

The R1 is winning races, I just posted the dyno number as more of a footnote

For quick revs it's hard to match a liter, the S1k is nuts

Since I'm not quite considered (by "not quite" - picture solo ear biting) someone who would be qualified to assess "better" or "faster", I developed my own measurement.

You only need a ruler and a watch with a second hand, and to be in the presence of the bikes you're considering (can be awkward when other people are around).

I hold the ruler up to my junk and time how long it takes to go from 3" to 8".

Boom. Take my money.

It's all personal preference . I was responding to a post between the 15 R and the 1299 . I raced a S1000 in 2012 it felt like a big pig to me compared to the Panigale but that's a personal preference some people love them .

precisely my feelings and experience. The BMW S1000RR without a doubt has an amazing, mind-boggling engine, it's a work of sheer genius.. The rest of the bike has some major flaws. The suspension is average, the bike weighs too much and feels every pound of its weight, the brakes are decent, but not at the level of the M50's, it steers very heavily, it needs swing arm insert height adjustments to make the geometry work and even though it has MONSTER top end, it is a bit lacking in midrange and the gearing needs a ton of tinkering to get it to work properly.

I moved to the Panigale 1299S, because it already had all the things I was going to have to change on the BMW at great expense. The one thing that has been a bit shocking to me about the 1299S, is that because of the way the engine produces torque, it is almost impossible to be I the wrong part of the rev range as it relates to gearing. At one of my local tracks, I had to change my front sprocket, rear sprocket and STILL couldn't get the hearing right for all the corner exits and for the mid corners on the BMW.. So far, the Panigale works perfectly for me, with the stock gearing.

Let's not even discuss how much lighter the Panigale feels. The differential is around 30lbs, but it feels more like 50lbs.

The BMW is an awesome bike and a fantastic all-rounder, but the Panigale 1299S has turned out to be EXACTLY what I always wanted.

Cheers.

D&D weighed it before starting the project. With OEM bodywork and everything else intact, with no gas and no battery, it weighed exactly 370lbs. Which would have put it somewhere around 390-392lbs ready to ride with 2gal of gas in stock form.

The Ballistic battery will shave about 8lbs. Just the OEM cans (without headers) weighed 15lbs, so the Akra Ti exhaust will shave some good weight (probably another 8lbs). And of course the headlights etc are heavy, so race bodywork will knock a good bit of weight off too.

Then removing all of the little things like the horn, emmissions canister/etc will help. After the lightweight Sprocket carrier and 520 chain sprockets, lots of Ti bolts, lightweight fairing stay and subframe, i am hoping for 360-370lbs with 2gal of fuel, ready to grid up.

With a custom dyno tune for U4.4, we are expecting somewhere around 198-200hp to the wheel. Something that light, with that much power, should be a blast. I will be in for a rude awakening when doing back to back races on the Grom and Duc. :D

Yep, I have been running those batteries in every bike I have owned since 2009, track and street.

Ballistic Performance Components

2-3 lb battery is pretty sweet, have you run them on other bikes? I'm a little wary of LiFePO4 because I had a bad experience with them (granted different application). If over-discharged they generally can't be brought back

May i ask? Why did you buy a Pani? I see your sig is FZR and you clearly follow the M1 very closely and you are in a thread about a Panigale build starting hp numbers of the Yamaha like it is some sort of all concurring motor that this gentlemans build bike can never beat. Are you dissatisfied with your purchase?

Not at all, 1299 is an awesome street/mountain road/track day bike, but I consider the R1M the superior pure breed track machine. MotoAmerica/AMA Superbike and Superstock race results back up that statement. Again, the hp is a small part of the story with the R1. Not a brand hugger

That may be the case in AMA but in WSSTK the Yamaha hasn't finished better than third at the moment and is running 5th overall, I really think when we are talking about these bikes it is more to do with the rider than the bike, they are all very close in their performance.

If I went by that logic I should have bought a ZX10 .The R1 is not getting the same results here .
So going again by your logic a CBR 1000 is the bike to have .......
