Not at all, 1299 is an awesome street/mountain road/track day bike, but I consider the R1M the superior pure breed track machine. MotoAmerica/AMA Superbike and Superstock race results back up that statement. Again, the hp is a small part of the story with the R1. Not a brand hugger

I am a brand hugger. Guess which one. :D

The answer is Ducati. It seems some missed the joke.

Ballistic Performance Components

2-3 lb battery is pretty sweet, have you run them on other bikes? I'm a little wary of LiFePO4 because I had a bad experience with them (granted different application). If over-discharged they generally can't be brought back

that was a big reason behind me buying earthX lithiums. Not only can you use standard chargers on them, you can't overdischarge them because they'll shut off completely, protecting the cells.

That being said, I've got a Ballistic I've been using for four years. Zero maintenance, and the bike it's on (S1000RR) has spent entire winters completely neglected, and it still fires right up on the first turnover of the motor, months after its last ride.

I own quite a few Yamahas myself. I've got a CLP-360 I've had for 22 years, and just picked up a pair of THR10s (a THR10X and THR10C) a couple months ago.

Lots of other race series out there where the R1 hasn't faired as well compared to the rest. Unfortunately the Ducati isn't in that many series to get a better comparison. Look at the Isle of Man TT wherE Dunlop ditched the R1. Don't get me wrong I think the R1 is a great bike but I think it comes down to factory backing, teams, and of course the riders that really get them on the podium.

Since I'm not quite considered (by "not quite" - picture solo ear biting) someone who would be qualified to assess "better" or "faster", I developed my own measurement.

You only need a ruler and a watch with a second hand, and to be in the presence of the bikes you're considering (can be awkward when other people are around).

I hold the ruler up to my junk and time how long it takes to go from 3" to 8".

Boom. Take my money.

JD This is not the ARSEHAMMER thread. There are more appropriate sites for your self abuse fetish with your ruler. I am sure PA can hook you up.

Still trying to figure out what this thread is about.

Race bike build?

HP shoutout?

R1?

Brand recognition?

I'm just trying to find out how to change my quick shifter fluid.

I would really like for once if this thread could be kept clean and stay on topic. While everyone including myself gets threads off-topic. This is one thread that I would like to follow.

Got it! I like you follow all bikes in fact my current garage bike wise consist of a Yamaha, Ducati, Moto Guzzi and a Honda. I ride what I like. No brand hugging for sure.

I am the same way. I get what bikes I want based upon their specifications/abilities, how fast I think I will go on them, how comfortable I will be on them, etc. The brand is irrelevant.

I have raced a ZX6R, R1, 2 different R6's, Triumph 675, GSX-R750, Duc 1098S, RSV4 and even the Grom. :D

My only reason for choosing the 1299S over the R1 is because of the HWT classes WERA has. The Duc, being a Twin, will be legal for 5 race classes. The R1 would only be legal for 3.

And I like to race a lot.

Chaotic-thanks for the reply. I'm waiting to get some news from MotoXP re bodywork and I'll keep you posted. Otherwise, I'm going to follow suit and get an 1199 fairing stay. Good luck with the race build. See you at the track.

Same . I ride a Ducati due to the classes I race .

True that JonT- while speaking with Josh Hayes and my dear deceased friend Dane Westby- they both were SERIOUSLY amazed at how awesome their new Yamaha's were! And THEY CAN RIDE IT!!

CHAOTIC - Super thread and build project my man! Please keep it updated with where you are with things and don'tforget the pics!
You happen to remember who at STG is helping you out there? Brandon? Either way iI hope you're being "hooked up?"
Anxious to see some final results and your ride review once you finally get to throw your leg over this thing all suited up at the track! ;)

As mentioned before, I enjoy your posts on the Apriliaforum.
Seriously looking forward to this thread and the wealth of knowledge you will undoubtedly bring.

Please keep us updated on how the bike feels / rides in relation to your RSV4 and other past motorcycles.
I can only live vicariously through you :D

Thanks again and good luck during your race season.
