As I learned these, Ducati is no longer exciting for me :(, Ducati, which is very beautiful but not fast, is very contrary to my understanding of Ducati.

Oh it’s VERY fast…don’t get that wrong.

It’s just very expensive and less practical to make it into the most top tier track bike.

A buddy of mine made a good analogy: The 2025 pani V4 Is probably good enough off the showroom floor with the race, exhaust and software, and a set of slicks to go to any superstock 1000 race series and run lap times That will qualify you for the race. But you won’t win those races on that bike.

Still, though if you think about that statement, you can buy off the showroom floor is capable enough in essentially its road legal configuration to qualify for super 1000 races. That’s pretty bad .... And it’s a very fast bike.

But to get it set up to win those races? It’s not the right bike for that, which is why you rarely see them running in superstock 1000 race classes

What are you talking about?

He’s the guy Ducati markets to. And why unless becoming more informed people like him buy the bikes. Superstock 1000 races are only watched by hard core fans who are in the know about motorcycle racing. While MotoGP and WSBK are more widely watched.

So the feral rider/buyer of a Ducati that just wants the ‘fastest bike’ looks and those too race series and says Ducati wins everything so they have the fastest bike and I want it, and will pay a premium for ‘the best’.

But if you know what you are watching Superstock 1000 should be what you watch to see what’s currently the fastest ATTAINABLE bike…because without jumping through crazy hoops and paying crazy prices a WSBK and MotoGP bike is not obtainable.

Ewc has absolutely nothing common with superstock

That's why Suzuki is unbeatable in EWC but the guy who runs Suzuki at a trackday is usually a poor chav dreaming of Honda during lonely cold nights in the RV at paddock parking

EWC’s superbike regs are tighter than WSBK. Fun fact, you can run electronic suspension in it.

Unbeatable, huh?

2024 Suzuki
2023 Yamaha
2022 Honda
2021 Suzuki
2020 Suzuki

Ultimately what percentage of high end Ducati's are sold to poseurs? The nice thing about that is you can continue to readily find bikes essentially unridden for a full decade or more after release. Unfortunately, I can't see these being club raced much in the future due to expense.

This is a good point - you’re not buying anything close to what’s winning in MotoGP or WSBK.

There was a review a while ago comparing the Honda, BMW and Ducati and the reviewer made exactly this point - the bikes winning WSBK races are not like the bikes they are reviewing.

There’s still some reflected glory of course. 🤣

I think your comparison to the Ferrari business model is pretty much spot on these days.

@Steven31371 I truly like your passion and I am looking forward to your progression as you keep at it doing laps and riding cool bikes. But I ask you to speak to someone who has bought a AMA SSTK bike to race at a club level. It is not a bike for an everyday rider, the alpha bmw has corner by corner electronics that require specific mapping per track and while they make it sound like anyone can do it + and any cone can... but you really need a AMA level tech to help with this. Steve Weir is a very nice guy who does try to help most out as much as possible and he will send you a map when he is not busy. I have no idea how usable the HRC SSTK setup is because it's not widely used here, in AMA stock 1000 there were 4 Hondas out of 18 bikes - I would imagine 2-3 of them were actual HRC sstk bikes. I think that number was boosted purely by contingency. Hayden Gillim did better financially this season than most people in SBK + next season prolly more. Will be cool to see if you go this route, but a kit SSTK bike is not gonna be any better for you then an off the rack bike.

It's pretty common thinking that the bike that will make the difference, but track riding is a sport where skill = speed, and to get fast you need to do the yards. In car world a bottomless wallet can buy you a platform that gives the illusion of being fast and you're protected by the metal box from the elements but bike world has consequences for hubris. Even if you can afford a factory Ducati and Gigi as your crew chief, it's not going to make a difference until you have the skills to match the bike. Thats why in track day world guys on much older and less refined bikes can blitz lesser skilled riders who have the latest gear. Some bikes make it easy to progress and a Panigale unfortunately is not one of them for most people, but once you get to a certain level they are magic. Sometimes you have to go slower to go faster, I have spoken to more than one good rider who told me they only started to get really fast when they put their liter bike aspirations to one side and got a 400!
