How? It's not about your oil.

It's mandatory refresh every 5-6k kms

Who cares? if you can afford a £50k track bike you can afford to refresh it every, what, 3 years ish? A basic Jap bike engine refresh will fetch in a £5-6k bill these days. Or you just take a chance, like most do (including yourself) and don’t bother (it goes bang or you get lucky and sell it before it does). MotoRapido charge £9k + vat, including polished gears for a full refresh on an R, I bet you won’t get much change from £6k for a full rebuild on a base engine Panigale

You can refresh it or sell it at the right time and that money goes to a new bike.

So you’ve gone down this route? Dropping £10k (or 1/5th of the price of a new bike to race in the amateurs) every 3 years seems a bit of a fools errand. And £5-6k is significantly less than £10k. An 1103 V4 is the way to go to race amateur or do trackdays not the R unless you race professionally. Trackday’ing an R especially if you’re running in the novice group is just dumb.

Just for comparison, an R1 crate engine is £8700 and can be had from any Yamaha dealer. A crate R engine is mythical and will probably set you back at least $12-15k (total guess because no one knows).

I say every 1 year if you use it properly, but otherwise fair enough.

hey where is my bike mate ?

Marquez got 3rd at the Ducati trackday!!! Who takes these things that serious to even put that close of a pass on? This is a friendly “competition.” Also, no apology. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree as Bautista got punted by the other Marquez earlier in the “race”

Different attachment for the rearsets, so you wouldn’t be able to transfer rearsets from the previous models.

Looks like the ones that you can get from Ducati can only be adjusted to three different heights. A bargain at 1,785 Euros. 🤣

Pretty sure Spider will make one in no time

With more adjustment and probably less than half the price. 👍

You could also save money by getting the OZ wheels instead of the ‘forged by Ducati’ ones, which will probably be twice the price.

Tyre pressure on the dash would be a nice feature. Not a necessity but nice.

Poor man’s thinking I’m afraid. If you want an R, go buy one, enjoy it. Treat it like your wife or treat it like your ginger step dad, know one cares. Just know, if you buy a bike and rag the ..... out of it over a period of time, it will need maintenance to keep it running sweet. The sexpot R engine will be dearer to rebuild than the base model, it’s not rocket science.

Just a case of how deep your pockets are to fulfil what ever floats yer boat

Yeh maybe, I struggle to do more than a thousand miles a year on track tbh. Couple of euros and a couple Donington’s is normally all I can fit in.

According to MR, 6000 miles before refresh is ok with regular valve clearance checks for a ‘track bike’.. who knows. Will sell mine when the warranty is up

So in between those £10k refreshes, you have £2k annual desmo services? So another £4k… So operating costs of £4600/year just on those maintenance jobs alone over 3 years. With running costs like this, your pockets won’t be deep for long! Also, how much do you plan on selling your £39k tracked V4R?

The engine parts for R's are astonishingly expensive. The cam profiles are so radical these are going to need guides and valves probably at the second refresh (maybe the first). Titanium rods aren't like steel rods they also need regular replacement at $2100 each. Valve collets should be replaced every valve adjust, $800 for a full set. I've done one of the regular V4's and to do these correctly (just the reshim not including disassembly to get there) back to factory assembly specs is at least 8 hrs. So unlike most earlier Ducati's these won't be used 2nd or 3rd hand as club race bikes because they're simply too expensive.
