Random Stalling - 1199 R

It's not an R issue. It's a Panigale issue that's been discussed over and over for the last 18 months.

-- not for nothing here.....it is way older than 18mos - i had this issue starting on my 955 (1995) and a 996(2000).....not to forget a 999 (2004?) as well....the nature of the twin engine (huge pistons) and fueling has been with Ducati for quite a while

I can't comment on previous Ducs, but the 1199 issue is related to the charcoal emissions canister.

Does the stalling occur when you pull the clutch in? Say you are in 1st or 2nd gear and pull in the clutch to stop at a light and it shuts off.

....from the way it feels to me.....i'd doubt it is related to the charcoal canister - i believe the 999 was the first one that had a canister that i owned, i had it removed prior to delivery.....it meant nothing, still had an occasional stall now/& then - the 1199......the stall exists for me....it is "somewhat more tolerable" (i guess that means it doesn't happen very often for me)

On my bike so far it has happened when stopped and in neutral, when warming up and in neutral at 116 degrees F, when I have pulled the clutch in and rolling to a stop.

The charcoal cannister, for those who don't know what it's function is please click the link below.

My question is why would removal of the charcoal cannister stop the stalling?

Man my 1198SP did not have any of these issues.

Get the Termis installed....no more problems:D

Zaster, I had the Termi's installed and the dealer told they would have preferred it if I had them installed after the first maintenance, trying to con me out of my money. When I went to them with this particular issue they said that it may be a result of having the termi's on prior to the break in period. If that were the case they'd have a problem with every model in the Ducati line up.

Mine was removed by my dealer...

FrostyFire, did you request for it to be removed? If so, did they appeal at all?

Thank you very much guys for all your feedback. I appreciate your time very much.

It happend when parked in neutral as well. The engine just cuts out. I went for a two hr. ride yesterday and bike was fine. Didn't stall or anything she was perfect.

The day before I was warming her up before a ride and she stalled while in neutral.

....see previous post......"don't sweat it"...... :)

Hmmm, the common denominator here is you! You are the reason your bikes are stalling.

Believe what you want to believe, I and several others had a stalling problem, had the canister removed and the problem magically went away.

I told the dealer exactly that, I have a stalling problem, and other people online had theirs sorted out by having the canister removed. Dealer agreed and said they will remove the canister. I signed for the warranty work, didn't cost me anything.

No stalling issues with the full Termis = no canister ;)

My dealer removed mine before the bike was even delivered to me. They just did it; I didn't even ask.

The charcoal canister will plug up, preventing vapors to escape and preventing air to enter the tank as gas is used up. The latter can cause a vacuum to form and a gas flow problem out of the tank and starve you of fuel. It's a common dirt bike problem if you pinch the hose coming out of the gas cap. And it's a common problem on bikes with charcoal canisters like ours.

Chris.

No R and no stalling here. I'm feeling lucky because its been over 105 degrees here and the coolant temp rises high, and the fan turns on, hehe.

+1. The plugging comes from overfilling the gas tank. Gasoline will go in there and turn the charcoal into mud, it then dries up and effectively seals the vents shut.

I've seen in the past that dealers don't often tune the bikes properly upon delivery despite charging prep fees. Not all bikes leaving factory are tuned/adjusted properly.

The dealer should check, set and adjust various parameters needed for proper running.

Not every dealer does this for new bikes.

In any event with the first service your settings should be adjusted.

good luck.

I have over 3500 miles on a base, initially i had stalling when decelerating to a stop but after removing the cable from the butterfly in the exhaust on the first day i have not had stalling and since then have termi slipons and no issues since day 1 with stalling. I still have my charcoal canister.

.....just sharing my experience......process it as you choose, or not at all :)

My experience with the 916, 1098, 1198 - no stalling. Canister was removed on the 98's. With the 1199 during first 1000km - no stalling.
First ride after first service and with canister now removed - stalled three times in first gear at idle just rolling out of the driveway. No idea what this was all about but could have been unpleasant. Once warmed up no further problem. On the last three rides, no problem.

....so you're saying it stalled without the canister......."i hear you"
