Actually more of a non-ride out report, so all my mates came round on their bikes mainly R1s to see the bike and to go out for a ride
First thing to do was to check the oil this is easier said than done the spy glass is hidden behind the fairing you can just see it through a gap. However we could not see any oil just to make sure we took off the lower part of the fairing and the oil was just and I mean just showing at the bottom of the glass. Well below min I realise that the bike was cold but I think I should see something it's worth noting I have done 145 km at this stge.
A quick call to the dealer and he told me to bring it round so we all trundled off to the dealer (mates not particularly happy), When we arrived we looked at the oil level again and this time it could be seen clearly without having to take of the fairing it was spot on middle between max and min so nothing to worry about.
It is true to say that it is blowing quite a bit of smoke when cold according to the mechanic something to do with the semi-synthetic oil and running the bike in, it will go away after the 1000km run in period, well we will just have to wait and see
So bike ok now, off for a ride well the dark clouds came and it started absolutely pissing it down so we just went for an hour, tried the wet mode but quite frankly I prefer sport even in the wet it felt planted to the rode and now taking it up to 5K revs it feels much smoother my only major complaint so far is the DQS as it is finding some false neutrals, this should definitely not happen
Here's hoping for some better weather

Congrats!

On the note about the DQS...it's designed to be utilzed when you're balls to the wall wide open, not riding around in town.

thanks, re DQS it was not in town and I was pushing it (relatively speaking) to 6k

check the height of the gear lever they are normally too high from the factory

on the bikes i have ridden DQS has been faultless

hehe. "Pushing it to 6k".

Considering the bike won't get out of bed until 3k, that's not much pushing.

Relax grasshopper.
Use the clutch until you're WOT.

Interesting all these comments on DQS, I have the quick shifter on my BM and it works very well at any speed it works as long as the revs are increasing even just a small amount.
here are some pictures of 5 men:eek: trying to see if there is oil in the engine

Great link
thanks !!
seems like oil usage is a real issue, and i think just need to get the run in done and out of the way
think i will pick a long ass ride when i get mine and away i go
pack some OIL and i should be right.

silly question. BUT.. is there a fuel gauge somewhere? I haven't noticed it on any of the videos or doccos.

Not a gauge. No.
But a light will come on when you have about 5? litres left.

I still cannot for the life of my work out why bikes can't put a 'distance til empty' calc into their displays.

Maybe they're hoping people that ride motorcycles are smart enough to figure it out for themselves.

Just putting in all the variables would add another 2kg to the bike:D

Seeing how it adds zero weight and provides useful information, I would like everything I own to have it fuel economy, miles to empty, etc. Same as most cars today. One less thing to calculate, think about, etc.

Save the brain power to riding :)

Clearly anyone who doesn't think it's needed doesn't cruise much farther than Starbucks. Anyone who actually rides their bikes any decent distance would definitely appreciate knowing.

I agree. It doesn't matter if you're at the track, but I could definitely use if for my long rides in the desert. Depending on how I'm riding, the range on my K1300s varies between 110-180 miles.

Yeah you are probably right....I dont cruise much further than Starbucks, but then again it is only 900km away:D

Or I could cruise for a latte....100km away, or even the main town..60km away:D
All within walking distance down here which isnt to bad.
