Seepage from rear valve cover gasket. Thoughts?

Ya that SD traffic can be brutal. I try to stay off surface streets as much as possible for that reason. At least you can land split there.
 
This is common on the ducati (sadly) and your warranty will cover it. I have had mine 'fixed' last year, and now i have the issue again with the other cylinder. I do have the extended warranty on my bike and they will cover it again.

Its not a hard job to do after i looked into it, and most dealers carry the parts. But I dont have the time to do it before a track day so i will be sending mine in to get fixed this week

Yeah but I ride my bike to work and school daily so streets are inevitable, but my passion for this bike overpowers the heat :)
Maybe going coverless will help but that's wishful thinking! Might need to look into getting an exhaust and wrapping it or something?

My bike was out of warrenty by 2 months and they denied the claim. I called them and the man I spoke to informed me that it is part of the 7,500 mile service I just did (which was false btw).
 
Mine came with wrapping and I took it off the same time as when I took the subframe off. Didn't notice a difference at all. Still warm. Removing the heat shields will probably only help at speed. I would think it'd be worse in traffic since there's no more barrier but I'm not sure.

Unfortunately mine is a 2012 and I picked it up last year out of warranty.

to late now, but always buy in warranty and always buy extended warranty lol these bikes are ficky and sometimes its easier if warranty will pay for it.

but its truly not hard, maybe 2-3 hours to fix it

Lol I will buy it in the future on Ducatis. I was considering selling my 1199 to get a 1299 with an extended but I feel like I am just chasing the newest thing and it will never end.
 
I scored my 2012 last April for only $15K and it had a ton of mods already. That was officially my dream bike. Now that the 1299S is out, I have a new dream bike. It never ends.
 
alright gents I got everything off- I'm ready to replace the seal and put silicone on it- should I put silicone on each side of the new gasket? And how much? Kind of scares me to think of getting too much on it and it being squeezed into the engine any quick help is appreciated it as I got all this crap off haha

I just put it on both the face of the cover and the head . Re torque the cover and clean off the excess with some brake cleaner .
 
Wilk so just on the metal portions? None on the rubber? How much would you sAy? Thick line all the way around?
 
Happen to know the torque values? I've looked and only says "specialty retaining screw"
 
How long did it take the members that replaced there own gaskets? Over the weekend at the track mine started to leak. Is there anything that I really need to look for when replacing the seals, and laying down sealant? Thanks!

I assume the tank, airbox, and rear subframe need to removed?
 
I only changed the vertical cylinder and it didn't take too long. Not sure how difficult the horizontal cylinder would be. I didn't remove the tank, just held it up.

 
Mine didnt take long either- pretty easy. Worst part was getting the right heat shield off- Had a hell of a time with separating the two screws(One that goes into the engine than a screw goes into that screw( specifically a female screw) to hold the heat shield on.

Dlit why didnt you just finish taking your gas tank off?

Dumb questions but how do you take the cover off? I removed the two screws, seems like is more holding it
 
There is a bolt on the bottom right. I also removed the brake reservoir. You will need to get the cover over the plastic that the wiring is attached to.also. Take your time. It will slide off.
