Very often I find myself laughing hysterically inside my helmet while pulling the throttle hard! Anybody else experienced that or am I crazy :D

Here you go:

Note there is oil in there, but it only shows when teh bike is vertical!

Congratulations on finally getting your bike. Now you know it was worth the wait and your a 'firster' with your fairing :)

Jealous... :p I guess if it really bothered me I could buy a 2013 fairing?

It does bother me, especially given that regular oil checks are essential with this bike and its oil burn rate. Checking the oil is dam near impossible in bright sunlight with clutch case protection fitted.

My bike spent Friday just gone on track and I really needed to check the oil Saturday morning before the ride home. Doing so meant spending five minutes on my knees desperatly trying to see the oil window with a torch. Meanwhile my Triumph riding buddy, who was by this point wetting himself with laughter, was needed to hold the the bike upright as I swore at it.

Gonna ask my dealer for the price of this new faring and if its not too bad I'll buy it myself. However if its North of £150, which I suspect it will be, I'll take it up with Ducati because this appears to be an admission that not being able to check the oil level effectively is a design fault.

Out of interest, is that second hole/duct behind the oil inspection window new too?

Marc, congratulations on the new bike. I'm guessing that the long wait now seems worth it.

Out of interest, when I swung by the Ducati Aylesbury dealer on Thursday they had 2x Tricolore, 1x S and one standard bike in stock. I guessing we're getting close to the point where the bikes are in free supply. Shame you had to wait so long.

They just ordered more, good marketing to have all the models in the showroom, they just hope they can sell before they have to pay, don't know what Ducati dealer terms are it'll be 90 days typically but some manufacturers offer 180 days to get the bikes on the showroom floor. It's a gamble, if you get a guy who can't decide between a Duc in 12 weeks or a Beemer in 5 days it can make the deal.

The dealers do trade between themselves sometimes if you have customer waiting elsewhere it can get your bill paid quicker.

Definitely worth the wait, oh yes. :D

When I picked up my bike yesterday (Saturday) they told me they only had the Tricolores left and there were no more "S" models to come (their words exactly). That base model has been around for a month or so. My S arrived with them on Thursday.

Today, well another awsome day. Around 180 miles in all.

The torque is superb, especially seeing that there is a 280lb (in kit) bloater sitting on it. I do not know if this is the bike or the fact I am only just coming back to a V twin.

First gear should be known as the rocket gear. Just the right ratio. I cannot pull away from the lights slowly :D (not that I want to). Oh boy I so want to push this upto the red line in all gears (waiting for the track for that).

There was some heat but only when the engine temp reached 100c plus. That only happened when moving through towns with traffic so there was little air flow over the engine. Once on the open road again, no heat issues at all.

Fuel consumption is currently all over the place, the trip down was approx 80 miles and the bike returned around 30mpg, on the way back, around 40mpg and I was not riding any more gently, other than for approx 5 miles in heavy traffic and I had to filter (lane split) at around 30mph. Not that I care what mpg I get, but I am still trying to find the range of the tank.

There was no smoke on start up this morning, but there was some at the first fuel stop (3 miles from home!), after that nothing all day and apparently no oil used at all. I did top it up yesterday, but very little was needed then and as I say, nothing at all today.

This bike does need to ridden at speed and just wants to go faster all the time. It makes me smile with a fixed grin everytime I get on board. Even just typing this makes me smile. I have only properly ridden about 7 bikes in my biking life and can honestly say, nothing comes close to the riding experience of this bike (I am discounting my two weeks with a Harley Streetglide in this comparison for reasons of fairness - :) )

Mirrors; despite having a 52" chest with broad shoulders, the mirrors can be set to see behind with only a little head bob needed. A pleasant surprise.

The suspension does need some work, but not in a bad way, this thing corners like it is on rails; yes it does run wide at times (nothing a bit of extra lean doesn't cure, thanks Ducati for the 200 tyre ;) ), but that will be fixed at the suspension day I have in two weeks. I need a little more feel on the front too.

No fuelling issues either, the throttle responds immediately (still in 195 low though) and is no worse than any other fuel injected bike I have ridden, not jerky at all.

I have the reverse shift which is great and very positive, there was one false neutral, but that was my fault when I was not so positive in the lever lift changing down.

Nothing has fallen off or come loose yet. :) I am going to check the clutch fluid reservoir bolt though, mine defo comes through onto the hose. although there is a nut that seems to touch rather than the mounting bolt - is that the recall fix?

The only downside is that I will not get out again until next weekend. :(

So glad you like and you know what once you get about 500 miles on it gets even better. Partly bed in and partly you are used to it, mines the brake reservoir screw that just touches the pipe probably more so when it's flapping around.

Can you answer a question, does your 2013 bike have a snurply bit on the side stand mines a bugger I use my hand just wondered if they'd done something there, thanks.

You have a problem now dont you I know just how you feel, night has fallen here in the UK and its Monday tomorrow, you'll have to go to bed sometime you can't stay in the garage all night LOL !

Snurply bit? I usually hook my toe under the foot peg to access the end of the side stand. Fiddly but not too tricky.

Love the last paragraph, so true! :D

Sorry I'll re-phrase I can't flick the stand down with my size 11 sidi's the stand just needs a little 'lumpy' bit to make it easier I don't want to see a bolt sticking out the side something tasteful Italians are good at that.

As for the last paragraph, that's because I remember how I felt !!

Two months later it's still amazing just could do without going back and forth for recalls. Have fun !! It really does get better and better !

Theres a trick to it, I couldn't do it in my alpinestars to begin with but now I've got it sussed, I stick my foot out at 90 degrees and press down.

Off to work on the Tri again today after some pretty poor weather yesterday in north Wales had me skating round in wet mode again!

Get that 600 odd miles on it Marc ASAP! Get 1500 on it and it becomes sweet as a nut, the best gerchange on any bike I've owned by a mile, it just gets smoother and smoother...

I've just tweeted the press officer of Ducati UK about the new upgraded fairing being sent to owners of the 2012 model, I'll let you know if he responds ;)

Good to see your enjoying the bike fella, safe riding!

I have the DP Race Seat fitted as I too found the original very slippery - its a massive improvement in both grip and comfort.

Brands Hatch GP circuit on the 19th Sept.. here's hoping it passes the noise tests!
