What opinions do you have on the diferent options out there?

Right now running PIRELLI SUPERBIKE SLICKS SC1 front and rear,

Warms up fast, predictable but wear out fast

What opinions out there from Dunlop Michelin and Bridgestone

i run rosso corsa IIs buddy. great track tire. once you burn through them in a day, time for the super corsa's...

Running SC2/SC2 or SC1 rear, and the rear is good usually 3 track days, 4 at the absolute max.

Just switched to Q3+ on my Hyper to see how I feel about the sidewalls and compound of Dunlops. If nothing seems too radically different I will try a set of their slicks on the V4, luckily know some guys that are very familiar with the various compounds so will lean on their knowledge.

I know our bikes DTC/DSC are developed around the Pirelli tires but the deals that can be had for Dunlops at the track make me curious to give it a go. Used the Q3+ on the Calif SBK School bikes, I thought the feedback and warmup was great, as well as the wet weather performance.

One thing that we have found on most applications with the Dunlops 18-20 rear hot pressure 34- to as high as 38 hot on front.

I’m trying the Bridgestone V02’s next, lots of people saying very good things about them

Dunlop temp seems to be lower than Pirelli's recommended well, 70-80C opposed to 80-90C.

I've recently tested the Dunlop, Metzeler, Bridgestone and Pirelli rear tyres (MS2, K0, 3LC M/S and SC0).

Just the rear tyres, four days in a row, one day per rear tyre. The Pirelli was significantly the worst tyre. Unless you like talking, a lot, with the tyre changing guy 🤣

I've tested the front offerings too. Really enjoyed the front Pirelli, but the Dunlop was more consistent. The V02 medium front was also excellent.

Actually, the only standout tyre I found, was the Pirelli rear was so ..... All the other tyres, were fairly close to each other.

I didn't do the tyre calibration between swaps, didn't cause me any issue, and I was happy sliding the rear, to stear, whilst leaning on the slide control. With all tyres. Bit dicier with the Pirelli, but worked fine.

Maybe SC0 was way to soft, was the problem durability rick?

it is essentially the club racers Q tire, it s a little different now that any one can buy SCX but I have never used either

The SC0 and SCX are a little different, the X requires you to drive it hard to get the tyre to work fully.

It’s designed to be pushed and being aggressive with your throttle inputs. In other words it rewards riders that can be early and aggressive with the throttle.

The telltale sign it’s not being activated or worked correctly is excessive wear and ripping.

The SC0 is far less aggressive, it works better with progressive throttle inputs, more flowing riding. Personally I found it not to have as significant step in performance compared to the SCX.

At club level there is a definite preference to SC0’s and SC1’s. Many struggle with the X.

Just to add, a trick to extending the life of an SCX if you’re not getting it to work correctly is to run it 1-2psi higher than what is optimal. With such a soft carcass it gives a bit more rigidity and reduces ripping.

Is it just me or did they skip 3 and go right to 4 for the successor to the Rosso Corsa 2?

I'm likely going to replace my Super Corsas with these until I'm needing something better.

Which V02 are you going to try Steven?

I was going to get a soft front and extra soft rear for the spring then switch to medium front and soft rear in the hotter months, I’m told above 70 degrees Fahrenheit the soft fronts and extra soft rears go off pretty fast so go up a compound.

But temps vary so wildly this time of year in this part of the world that I don’t want to be stuck with the wrong tires based on our focal weather.

So I’m going to put soft fronts and extra soft rears on one set of wheels and and medium fronts and soft rear on the other set…with a med/soft compound spare rear tire in reserve in case temps spike above 90

Also, that Spider clipon angle tool is genius, I keep fiddling with my clipons never feeling like they are even haha, just ordered one.

I actually tried Pirelli SC2 front and Dunlop Rear and worked out well. Dunlop rear lasts longer than Pirelli.

I generally don’t like mixing tires that way, the belting and everything else is just so different brand to brand, especially with the stuff Bridgestone is doing, that I’d think it would be really hard getting the mix right

Don't knock it, until you've tried it Steven.

'Belting' and 'profile' etc, it's marketing BS to make you buy pairs. Run the tyres you want. They're all black and round, and lean when you go around a corner.
The rear tyre wears a lot faster than the front. It's common to run two rears, before swapping the front. Surely, with rate of wear, the shape of the rear tyre is completely changed (even from one side to the other)? Still work well.

With the V02 front (and many other brands), the term 'soft' or 'medium', doesn't always refer to the compound, or isn't just limited to the compound. It, often, also refers to the construction. Run your soft front at your next track day, then put the medium front on. You'll have the same grip, but different feel. And, despite this difference in construction, you can still us any rear tyre you like (ie xs, s, m etc). It's like they're lying re belts/construction needing to be 'matched'.
