I'd take dreary over scorcio, for riding on track, and general living, every day of the week! Personal choice, obvs. One man's meat, is another man's poison, and all that.

Spain's an hour by plane, if I fancy a few days on a sandy beach drinking sangria

Im off to Brno 3 days on track in three weeks......thats at least an hour and a half away...:D

Somebody say Sangria? Better than Lattes. Left the track Sunday and came home to Sangrias and Bocce Ball event. Great day

Yeah I’ll get there, just gotta keep reminding myself that was only my 3rd track day, and 2nd at that track. My brain is still calibrating.

I have a very competitive nature so it’s hard to dial that down while trying to learn lol

But we’ll get there.
Exactly! It takes a while to get your eyes used to seeing speed. You have to grow neurons for that (it only takes a few weeks only, if there is consistency).
I've been going to a simulator that runs laps in point of view faster and faster. The DIY version: look up on youtube "Panigale at Mugello" or where ever and get in riding position and watch the laps with your head down as if on the bike, lean with the curves, move. Learn a few tracks. It helps enormously to watch faster riders then you get used to that speed before you go. I took a bunch of seconds off my lap times after I started doing that and didn't even realize it when I was riding. Seemed normal.

Sorry, while I was typing we're onto drinking?
Spritz? Campari though, Aperol is for confused ......

From a local racer i can tell you nobody is making it to MotoGP in this Forum - Enjoy the bike for what it is - it will place endless smiles on your face - pace and all other pieces come with time and a good instructor. The point of any new experience is not the end goal its the experience and journey itself. Remember no matter how fast you get there will always be someone faster than you :)

Spot on! It's always good to do session then go and watch the fast guys at the front of A group who are practicing for the local superbike series to be inspired and humbled.

The two fastest guys at that track every track day are in the garage we all use, fun to see them going back and forth with each other, and the 3rd fastest guy is two garages down, so my neighbor thought I go there with has me hobnobbing with the cool fast guys to learn from….really nice guys btw….John Chen and Thomas

Anybody here been to Buttonwillow for track days?

They have some July dates that look attractive

By the time you earn the right to be in race group at least here, you know pretty much everyone so if youre a ........ you get the message pretty quickly, also the front guys are significantly faster and yes track days are also for racers to practice setup etc but its not a race.

Buttonwillow is my "home track". It does get warm there mid summer but its a pretty good track with multiple configurations/ directions. It can get a little breezy sometimes but its pretty fun. Its right off of the I5 too so easy to get to.

Europe also knows how to make track days convenient. You can literally have the organizer transport your bike to and from the track instead of having to figure out logistics on your own. They also have proper paddocks instead of American shacks.

Buttonwillow is a fun track as B Topp mentioned (have to meet up some time). It is in the valley so heat can be an issue as it could be 90 or 110. Most of the providers run clock-wise and counter-clockwise to offer some different configs as well as burn up both sides of your tires. It has some bumps but if you can go fast there you can go fast anywhere.

They are actually in the process of building another track right next to the existing one. It was supposed to have been completed last October (or at least that was the last I heard) but seems like there are some delays with the completion of it. I'm looking forward to checking it out when its done!

They do have RV hook up (if you really want to be comfortable) as well as garage rentals there. I would definitely recommend getting a garage its a bit more comfortable in the heat or wind and there is power for tire warmers and fans if you like a few comforts. But they go pretty fast so reserve one sooner rather than later.

Speaking of one sided tire wear, AUTOCLUB SPEEDWAY is murder on the left side of the tires, anyone reverse the direction of their tires to get even wear and full use out of them at tracks like that?

Unless there is some kind of internal structure issue that would prohibit that I don’t see anything on the outside of the tire that would prevent it.

It depends on the construction of the carcass. I think you're OK reversing most rear tyres, but some you can't.

If my budget only allowed me a £3k trackbike, I'd probably reverse my rears. If my bike was $125k+, I'd probably stump up for new rubber :D

If tyre wear is a concern, and not wishing to open a can of worms, do not use Pirelli rear tyres! Bridgestone/Dunlop/Metzeler rears all last AT LEAST twice as long as a Pirelli. Same, or lower, price too.
