V2 MotoAmerica Race Bike Build

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I liked the very old Formula USA rules, where you could show up with a bike and as long as it had two wheels it was legal. There were some wild bikes built in that series. Turbo bikes included based on the CBR900 RR and two strokers going at it. Lots of other variations too.

Super cool.

Well, motorsport racing is effectively a big marketing campaign for the manufacturers. It all starts with what bikes are in demand on the retail market, and then race classes and rules are backed out from there. So these so-called, "Middle-weight" bikes are popular right now (V2, Triumph 765, MV Agusta 800, etc.), or are at least more popular than 600s (dead), so the racing leagues are trying to find a way to fit these bikes in to racing categories. The are too big & fast for the traditional supersport / 600 classes, but of course too small & underpowered for the liter bike or open classes. So what MotoAmerica has done, following World Supersport, is to "dumb down" these middleweight bikes, using a special electronics package, to make them competitive with traditional 600 class bikes.

Hey, thanks for all of that. I kind of outline my plan in the build thread. I'm going to do some track days and club racing on this bike first and get used to it before I fully go MotoAmerica with it. But you're right in that I need that electronics package if I go MotoAmerica. And you are right that Woolich can't be used for that -- only club.

In fact, I may just keep this the club bike and have a brand new V2 build for MotoAmerica. I'll see how I do!

Thanks again for your help!

If it were me, my next step would be to just replace the full harness. There’s a few on eBay for around $100-200

Thanks for that.

We’ll see what Ducati says. It could be some kind
$180 OBO seems like an absolute steal for a non-molested OEM wiring harness.

Thanks for that. I’ll go ahead and get this harness checked out and see. So far, there’s been no other issues. And I’ve inspected it, and spent two days going on things, and it looks good. No codes. Bike runs good.

And my quickshifter could be a programming / software problem. Or something else. If they say the entire harness is shot, looks like some good options on eBay. My guess is that it needs a partial rewriting to fix whatever crap they rewired to get that tail light on. Nothing else looked disturbed.

How do you know the QS isn't working? I take it from your state of disassembly you aren't riding it.

When I first got it, it was in street form, and I rode it around for a few weeks and realized it's not working. And its icon is not coming up on the dashboard, and I can't select it in "Settings."

Modified the kickstand bracket and sprocket cover bracket to reuse but not have them be in the way and clunky.

Installed. Beats having the entire bracket sticking out or paying €40 for the aftermarket one.

Woodcraft clip Ons set up. I think it’s about where I want them and everything seems to be fitting and clearing well. We’ll see how it works with the bodywork.

Translogic quick shifter and Woodcraft resets all put together and on the bike. It’s kind of tight behind that bracket, but everything is moving freely and ergos feel right.

I’ll keep the OEM brake for now. I want to see how it feels on the track. Typically I like the Brembo MK2.

Woodcraft brake and clutch lever guards coming.

Trying to figure out the ideal place to mount this clunky, keyless lock box

Got my Woolich unit today. I was looking where to plug it inand couldn’t find the connector. Then I realized where these wires used to go on this jacked up tail section wiring loom…

The good news is that there’s a lot of these little tail piece wiring sections used on eBay. And they seem to all be the same — even on earlier Panigale models. So I picked one up for 40 bucks. I’ll rob the connectors for both the computer connection and the tail light connection, so I can block it off.

Thats the wrong one. Looks like from an 1199/1299. It will not help you.

I wrote “earlier Panigale” models, indicating I know that it’s not a newerone. The connectors look exactly the same to me and the parts catalog says they are the same. Why do you think they are different?

Panigale V2 from 2020 on is completely different electronic package. It is now similiar to Panigale V4. Also look at your Woolich box. You need the matching red Euro5 motorcycle OBD connector on your bike to connect it. You must be looking at the wrong parts catalog.

Dang. Ok. Let me look again.

Well, there’s plenty of cheap ish V2 looms also.
