Hi,

As title suggests I am trying to decide between a V2 and V4.

From my perspective 155hp is probably enough for any mortal.

I am 6’3 and 180lbs. If that matters in terms of comfort.

Is it worth getting the v4 instead of V2 given the price difference? The thing that I liked about the v4 apart from obviously the electronics and the engine is the wider body, gives a bit more grip. Or is it just my imagination? Since I have not seen a v2 in person yet.

Test ride them both. Are you mostly road riding? Have you owned Ducati’s previously?
I see you’re in Sydney and I hear there’s a wait for V2’s at the moment unless you want a white one (talk to the guys at western ranges in Tamworth) otherwise get a v4 and impress everyone at Starbucks with your fancy wings :D

I'm 6'4" 195 and found the V4 much more comfortable than the V2. I also thought the V4 ran cooler than the V2

can’t test ride the v2 unfortunately. And who still drinks Starbucks coffee haha.
Gonna have to go with my gut when it comes to choosing between them.

To answer your question I will use it mostly for mountain/road riding. Will start doing track.Question here is if I should invest money into the future and get a v4. People said though that v2 is plenty.
And this is my first ducati.

I heard quite the opposite when it comes to heat issues. The v4 runs muuuch hotter

V4! Twins belong in the museum! Just kidding.....I have ridden both on the street and track, I like the V4 better for both conditions. I like passing V2s on the track with my little 600cc bike....

Yeah, cuz you most definitely need 200 hp on posted 25-45 mph mountain roads...

Get the real Duc

A twin w aftermarket under tail exhaust : )

If you want to race later buy a Jap bike for that

All my neighbors have “off road” [replica] electric golf carts, but I can’t see spending that much $$$ for a golf cart! That’s like so winding $50k on a MINI VAN

It must be an EV and it must be premium. I had a OneWheel for years and have had my Boosted Board for 3 years. Do you think the machines in the following link will be really good or will I be disappointed:

ain’t about need, it’s about want. I don’t need a motorcycle at all, still have two. I get your point though, 200hp isn’t exactly all useable in most situations, however, letting it rip when you get the chance is so delightful.

Very true, appreciate the input.

I can't think of any situation where you would be happier with the V2. If a twin is option for you, and you have the means for a V4, then the choice should be between an 1199/1299 or V4. V2 if you absolutely want that particular bike. I have an 848, 1299, and V4. All 3 have their place in my heart. 848 was my first Duc and is still a fun ride, but when I purchased it, 1098 and 1198 were not an option. If you can't ride V2 and V4 back to back, go with the V4 and never be left wondering or doubting.

When I go to my toolbox I don’t close my eyes and grab one

For the mountain roads in so cal my preferred tool is a enduro

Funner n faster than suberbike and never know when ya might find a trail that leads to a deep creek or a gorge : )

Starbucks is just a metaphor for those of us who don’t/haven’t taken their bike to the track yet.

If you’re looking at a v2 do what some of the others said and get a slightly used 1x99 for the same or less cost.

Being new to Ducati I’d recommend you get the previous gen L-twin first to experience the legacy but even then my ignorance would be dismissed by the purists who say the 10/1198 was the last authentic Ducati superbike before the Germans got involved.... anyway I got what I wanted when I bought my 1299.

If you have to have the newest & fastest get a V4. My logic would suggest if you’re ever stuck with two options then flip a coin. You’ll know what you want before it lands.

Good luck

V4 is the modern bike, smother, faster, better at everything. Cylinder deactivation is pretty neat and the aero kit is over the target.

Definitely worth the extra $$$ for a V4. The very expensive exhaust is worth the $$$ and the clear clutch cover with internal jewelry is worth the $$$

It’s a Duc, it deserves it

any 1299 Panigale S models around? In the US, you can find a “rare” one pop up with the good exhaust and being a 2nd owner means the depreciation factor won’t kill you until the engine fails and it’s as expensive as totaling it

My 1299 is mental, my V4 is also totally mental it’s just a hell of a lot more confidence inspiring
Sure the V2 won’t “want to kill you” like a tuned 1299, but neither will a a V4.
V4 only misbehaves if you try to ride it in the cold without allowing it to warm up first
A cold V4 actually behaves like a warm 1299 with factory ECU, so if yer worried about losing that heritage feel of a lawn mower engine shaking you apart, the v4 can give u that too. Just as you would hope the terrible juddering fades away and once the v4 engine is warm, it’s very luxurious and precise
My 1299 is luxurious too now that it’s been sorted out

Get a slightly used 1x99 for the same or less cost.
Good luck
Indeed

I think the big question is:
Would you like to lead the 200mph group up and down the highway?

But I think the real question is:
Are you even gonna ride it?

I feel like the V2 is there for the rich kids to learn on. I was a triumph guy when I was a kid. Prolly coulda had a 899 but I definitely wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much as my Daytona.

For over a year I had thought everyone talking about my Duc looking good at Starbucks is bc IT DOES!
Thanks for the clarification!
Out of curiosity, what is the specific phrase you nerds use for “the guy that posts too much but is scared to touch tools to his bike”

But wait, there's more! I posted a similar question To V4 or not to V4, that is the question - If you want to read all day about it ;P
"My first Ducati" is a significant piece of the puzzle in IMHO. Which ever you get will be the one that defines how you know Ducati and you'll learn that one. They are not like other bikes, especially if you haven't been riding twin superbikes. If the love, your gut, is bringing you here, there's reason. There can be a learning curve let's say, to get used to the high torque and precision Duc SBKs have. For me, that learning curve was pure joy. They ask of you. They're not a sofa on wheels and they're not a Honda dirt bike you can leave dusty for 6 months and nothing happens. You can get a workout. If you're into that, you'll love it.
The older SBK were a bit of a glass slipper. As in, you're Cindarella, or you ain't. There was little to adjust. The new ones are way more open. Your height could be a plus. Get to the track. You'll learn leaps in a short time. There are no cars, deer, intersections, pot holes. It's just you, your bike and the curves (and some other freaks but you can stay clear of others until you get confident.)

Really appreciate all the input everyone has given. Helped me quite a bit. Hope all have a safe ride and have a blast on the roads. Obviously, if anyone has any other input then I am welcome to hear it. But please no trump supporter bs as we had before. Cheers.
