V4R or M1000RR

Hi All
Thank you very much for all your input. The main reason I consider the V4R is that I rode the L-Twin R in the past and have always considered the R models as the pinnacle of what Ducati could deliver (expect for the SL models). For quite a while, I was not even looking at other brands as I did not see any competition. The Japanese brands do not impress me much, Aprilla still uses a headlight from the 80's and the BMW RR felt like a sewing machine when riding it - indeed fast, but no character. What triggered me with BMW was the release of the HP4Race and the new M 1000 RR version. Now, due to the suspension and brake choice for the M, BMW has made the bike a lot less attractive. As pointed out by some of you guys, the choice may end up as being between the V4R or the SP. Again, it is difficult for me to see where the SP would come out on top versus the R, but it does look good indeed. Also pointed out in this thread is the option of getting a V4 or V4S and then throw the change at some parts. That is an option as well, - however somehow feel it would be a shame to miss out on the V4R engine.

If you want something super special, and with all the best parts already fitted, BMW S1000RR HP Race (I think that's the full name, the carbon frame one). My friend has one, it is unbelievable, every part is special, hence the retail price. Unused ones go for close to V4R money...

The HP4Race is super nice but of course track only.

I have always wondered in the USA with some states have more relaxed motor vehicle codes. It might be possible to get the HP4 Race plated as a special build or something similar.

I am sure you could. Here in Japan we had a guy who put a H2R on the road with plates and stuff.

Pretty sure the great Vicati who graces us with his presence from time to time is friends w a guy who rides a HP4 Race around Austin/Houston... don't think it has plates

they appear to be in the tollway as well. Wonder how that works.

I bought the v4r before the skrm was announced and thought about getting one also but some folks on the beemer boards were reporting the new teething issues with the new gen such as cracked carbon rims and a flat spot in parts of the curve. Am sure they have sorted it out (I have a 2014 Hp4 and am happy with it) but if I was getting another beemer today it would be Hp4 race for track only.

I'm struggling with same question.

I'm faster on BMW, plus Motec dash is very nice as it shows split vs. constantly looking down at Aim.

Alpha sells M1000rr around 50k euros. V4R with add-ons comes around 45k.

Tough choice

The thing with the Alpha is you are relying on having a good relationship with the Alpha/BMW in regard to the track specific electronics. It is less of a consumer friendly club racing setup, because the electronics are a step further. Also the V4R race setup is well over 45k, to be built out on par with Alpha M1000RR that is min +15k with no spares. Setup information wise there will be less info on chases setup on the V4R

I already had S1000rr gen4 with Motec that I sold as it's becoming quiet old.

Entry level Motec is pretty straightforward and Alpha provides lots of free stuff like tire radiuses with it.
Motec software is great for analyzing the data.
Can also pay Alpha guys to attend a track day to setup the electronics, it's not overly expensive.

None of that exists for Supepstock moneys for V4R unfortunately. Magnetti Marelli is overly expensive.

V4R comes with much better items, like calipers, suspension. So 45k do buy you a bike, Akra and a decent Superstock setup with EVO4 electronics.

Alpha M1000RR comes with ohlins
45k is the price tag not out the door for V4R no Akra

Ohlins in V4R is okay, need to change rear spring and minor rework of front but otherwise it's comparable to entry level Ohlins that Alpha puts.

45k is euros before tax (bike itself is 35-36). Alpha wants 50k for a reasonable package.

ugghhh not sure what is getting lost in translation here
2023 Ducati V4R is 43.990 EU with out fees or taxes or exhaust
I know about the suspension, I have one
Alpha comes with FKR 122 carts + BM 569 shock which is better then the OEM Ohlins the V4R comes with

My last day on track I rode with a friend on a Alpha M1000RR

40k buys you bike and Akra, rest for parts

V4R suspension is on level of Alpha entry level. TTX and BM 569 is as basic as it gets.

V4R with right chassis setup get you 1.58s at Mugello easily

RoadracerX has a well set up Aplha BMW…says it’s badass when it’s running, but has some electrical gremlins if I remember right…and it’s a track only bike, so no fans, and on a hot track day tends to overheat?

Not sure I’m remembering exactly right, but he definitely said the bike is badass when working but has some reliability issues.
