I'm thinking of selling my 1199s, anyone interest to own one? The bike is in a great shape because I just bought it a couple weeks ago.

Just joined the forum about a nano second ago.
Planning on buying a 1199S.
There is only one small sticking point for me. Price!
Yep I reside in Thailand and these babies retail at TB1,698,00 or in US$56,300.

1199 S, maybe ABS but not sure since I have never owned a bike with ABS.

Isn't it like Holland or somewhere, that someone can buy ot for you in the states, ride it for so many months, then it enters used at a savings?

I have a deposit on a 2013 1199r. Plan on keeping my '07 1098s. Should see the new duc in March/April. Can't wait

And it's very clear that you cannot have the best possible direct feel with 3 to 5 times the amount of brake hoses, junctions, and control valves.

I'm not a huge fan of the tri-Y wheels but It's no deal-breaker.

Otherwise I may opt for the base and with the money I save I'll replace the suspension and grab a set of Marchesini forged alloy wheels or maybe a set of BST's.
I may go over the price of the S to do this but that's ok.

So, I'm still on the fence and I need to learn more before I decide on which bike is right for me.

I agree with your points about ABS, and direct brake feel.

Also not a fan of the y-wheels.

Ohlins that come from factory bikes (S models) are not the same quality as ones you buy aftermarket. Just ask any suspension tuner, like Dan Kyle. The Ohlins forks that came on my 999R are pretty made to costs, with the gold nitride coating only halfway up the fork tubes, where they are visible. This is not Ohlins' fault, but Ducati spec'd price.

Placed my order on the R... :)

Add the R to the list! :)

This is not correct for the 1199s. They come with good Ohlins stuff, NIX30 forks. There's always upgrades to be had, of course.

If true, that's a welcomed changed to the long tradition of crappy Ohlins that came from Ducati.

Just spent 2 days testing our race bikes and wrote a long thread on this subject, if I had my choice again I'd pick 2 standard bikes and use the rest of the budget for shocks and valving, the Ohlins kit is ok, over sprung, just completed our 3rd day of back to back and best results came from stock ohlins and an 8kg spring, down from 9kg fitted at the factory...

Have an S and a base model, the forks on the base are very good... In my humble opinion the base is value for money over the other models... Spend the rest on making the bike your own...

Great bike no matter what spec...

Bowdy69, how much do you weigh in full gear?

I wish Ducati would release an R without the DES. Long-term ownership would mean expensive system to maintain.

Plus DES is not true electronic suspension like the BMW in which the system self adjusts on the fly due to road conditions. All it does is saving you the 'hassles' of using an allan key which would take less then a minute to adjust anyway.

98kg with all my kit on, lid, leathers, back protector, gloves, and a bladder full of nervous pee... Normal before a race ;-)

hello, i am from france and yours settings are very interesting!
I will practice 5 weeks on circuit in 2013.
Could you give me an advise about the rear spring the most adapted to my 68-69 kg (without my equipment)

I think the 9kg spring is too hard for me and a 8 or 8.5 would help to have a better bike or a better using of the rear tire?

Thank you for your answer :)

Both so true.... ;-)

I just don't get why people say this. What does riding hard have to do with a smoother, more compliant, and more refined ride?

Better suspension works all the time - not just when riding hard.

and this....

hahaha! sort reminds me of this:

"Honey, can you do the laundry for me today while I'm out?" "awe sure babe"...

You pitch all of the cloths in together, wash on full hot and drop in a cup of bleach just for effect, and viola!
You're never asked to do the laundry again :)

Visited my friends over at Pro Italia and finally took the Panigale S out for a brief test ride. You've heard it said here before, and in one short word, wow! It literally was the first word I said after removing my helmet, and that's without having taken it up into the canyons. Superb power especially for the track, fueling felt fine as did the power delivery, brakes were fantastic, and the ergos relatively comfortable. I wish that I could have experienced riding it in the twisties as that's where we ride most all of the time (HWY 2), Race and Sport are the two modes i tried. Man is that bike wicked fast. The only negatives I came away with were the heat displacement and price of admission. I'm seriously considering one, riding it was that much fun.

Thanks again, PI
