Z41 rear sprocket

Gents-

And I am sure you were joking on this Paddock?
"The other option is to give the bike a good ragging to stretch the chain enough so it fits the 41 tooth rear " Because that will NEVER happen!

7k km here with half a dozen trackdays and a lot of spirited street riding.

OEM chain and did not have to adjust it yet! That would be some kind of ragging....and to stretch a chain for two teeth....wow!

Strikes me that it might make longer rides a bit more tiresome because of higher rpm?

Has anyone had any experience of this with the Pani?

From my mechanic. You guys who know your mechanics on this WAY more than me agree with this statement:

The larger rear sprocket will require a longer chain, also the front sprocket, drive chain and rear sprocket all form a wear pattern together as these components are all working in conjunctuion. If only one of the sprockets or only the chain were to be replaced the existing wear pattern from the other two components would still be and would start to wear out all three parts prematurely.

TRUE But only if your replacing a component due to wear, Not just for gearing changes

At 90mph is 6th....engine will be spinning approx. 250 rpm higher... I don't think you would even notice that....

Here's a hint for a HONDA Blackbird 1100XX front sprocket to give you longer wear - after 10-15,000 kms, swap the front sprocket around the other way! This uses the fresh side of the teeth for the next 10-15,000 kms.

For the Panigale, this should be the same as I cannot see on offset on the sprocket. (But this is my first Ducati so can't be 100% sure)

I agree, I don't think I would, thanks for that info...will probably make the swap now

That seems risky to me. I know nothing happened after you did that on your 1100, but it seems that after you flip the sprocket and start approaching the 2nd 10-15K km the sprocket gets weaker/thinner with wear. I don't know, I'd be concerned about the chain coming off or breaking.

At ~$40 for a sprocket the risk/reward is high/low IMO.

i would like to see the difference between two pani's... one with the original 15/39 setup against the new 15/41. i would really like to see how much of a difference it makes.

anyone here that has any experience with this ? here in holland the driven the pani last year already on track with the 41 but nobody yet on the street.

15/40

Long before this issue evolved I decided to go to 15/40 and have seen small, yet noticeable changes in low speed drivability. It gets off the line quicker and seems to feel like its more in its element with a tiny bit more low end.
Btw I call my bike "IT" not she. :)

It might sound like hogwash to some of you, but it's absolutley true. If you want maximum life from your chain and sprockets you should chance them as sets. They wear together. So do gear sets, and cams and followers....so when you replace one gear in a transmission due to rounded dogs, you also change the gear on the opposite shaft with which it meshes....and when you replace a cam you should install new followers ( rocker arms in a Ducati).

That said, how much you've shortened life should be examined, too, along with the cost of parts. You have a fairly new chain and front sprocket, and they will shorten the life of the rear sprocket, but probably not a ton. Sprockets are generally cheap compared to a chain, so if it's mine I don't change the chain and front sprockets, but reuse them on the new rear. Feel free to look up the cost of sprockets and make up your own mind. Bear in mind I say this while I don't count the cost of labor, as I provide my own. For a customer I'd recommend changing the set and would offer to do whatever he or she wants.

i notice that my bike with the termi slip ons and the "race" upmap and MWR filter goes on his back wheel in 1,2,3 and sometimes comes a little of the ground in fourth when going over a bump..

Don't you get even more issues with the nose going up like crazy?

i don't weigh that much so that's not the reason with me i think haha i weigh 68 kg's

also isn't it possible to add Links to the Chain? or is that Dangerous (if you would let the Ducati dealer do it )

i don't have any experience with this but if it's possible it would keep the costs much lower i expect..

Good initiative..............

..................bad judgement, as we used to say in Corps!

With a bike that has as much hp and all as this, I would never even think of doing that my friend. Believe me, it is WELL WORTH the money spent on a new chain to have the peace of mind knowing there are no weak spots on your chain! I would highly doubt any Service tech or Dept would advise you to do this either. Shop around and get yourself a good quality chain if you decide to go this route. After all, thats why they call it "final drive" so Id hate to see it ever become "final ride" for you or anyone else!

hahah i totally agree :p

I ride the bike in Amsterdam and would be nice if he would we more powerfull in the mid range.. also the new upmap should help with that so i will test the new software first maybe.. when the wheater gets better here haha

But doesn't your bike go up like crazy now? wheelies the whole time? haha
