So, what is a decent chain?

DID 525ZVM-X, RK 525GXW, EK 525ZZZ or is there something better?

guys help me out!

my dealer tells me this :

we have a cheaper solution for you which we have done offten with other panigale's

change to FRONT sprocket to 14 which will give you the same settings as (15/41)

so 14-39 is the same as 15-41?

is this true??

please let me know guys he charges 115Euros for this so that's 155 USD

Always went by 1 tooth in front = 2 1/2 teeth in the back but changing the rear wears better.

14/39 gives you a 2.78:1 gear ratio.
15/41 gives you a 2.73:1 gear ratio.

OK, stock is 2.60:1, so that means that -1 on the front makes a more dramatic effect that +2 on the back.

Ducati used to go -1 on the 9x6 SP models, so I wonder why they chose a more subtle effect on the 1199?

One downside to the 14 in front is that the smaller diameter may increase the likelihood of the chain rubbing into the swingarm. In between service intervals my chain did just that - with the stock 15t front, so I personally think that changing just the rear is a better option.

Also, a larger rear sprocket will shorten the wheelbase. Ducati's recommendation for the 41t rear could be for another reason other than just for acceleration and gearing...

Also, a larger rear sprocket will shorten the wheelbase.

How would it shorten the WB?

So you could compare it with 15-42 instead of 15-41 i guess.
Dont you guys think the pani wil wheelie the whole time ?

First thought

You would think this to be true, however- if you have the rear axle slid BACK toward rear of bike you may even lengthen the wheelbase in long run! The longer chain enables this to move back and have enough slack for a properly tightened chain. Again, my setup is 15/40 which was done MONTHS before any of this info even arose. (not saying i was first person to think of it (duh) but all of a sudden people are jumping on this issue)

Go with what works best for YOU!

Are my calculations correct? If I reverse the sprockets and go with a 39/15, will I be able to go 1014 mph. Because that would be awesome. ;)

I went with a 15/41 520 so I could adhere to the new map release and be compliant. That and wear and -1, +2 would be too much.

According to my service guy, the upmap we got awhile back, that everybody loved IS the new upmap. It is capable of handling the new 15/41 setup that Ducati has announced. They will provide a discounted "kit", which at least includes a rear 41T sprocket, but (IMHO) could contain a chain and even a carrier to accomodate the new sprocket.

Oh, thanks for clarifying that. Guess I should be set, idk why I didn't do this earlier; I've done this on every bike, although usually -1/+2 (loved it) to get rid of those worthless low RPMs. Should be here Friday hopefully. Get it installed on Sat on an in-and-out. Seeing if my dealer can hook me up. Good ole Steve!

My service guy said just the opposite. I got the new map awhile back, but he just received a brand new one a week ago.
