Z41 rear sprocket

New, older new, now I am confused

Yeah, like that? Though I do believe this is the second mapping upgrade (that is probably a bit better on the grammar). I'll know more when I go in to get it, I'll make them prove it up to me. But the shop generally has my full confidence. Hell, my RSV4R had like a new mapping upgrade every 6 months seems like. And off subject, but these mapping conversations at least fill me with joy that I will never do any work on a ....... carburetor.

Third map in total:D

What I was told gents:

Hey guys, found out from the dealer the deal with the new "sprocket map". It does nothing for fueling, it is in reference to new TCS/ABS parameters for the increased sprocket size.

Just curious what this will do to gas mileage? I know this will make the engine work a little harder. I'm not concern about cost but I ride through the canyons and barely make it to the next gas station on my route. Anyone out there with a larger rear or smaller front sprocket could chime in? I'm curious if it improves/gets worse/or stays the same.

It will decrease it, not too noticabily, but yes. All my bikes dropped a little MPG ever-so-slightly when I did this. +2 isn't that big or as drastic as -1/+2. You never drive in the low RPMs though anyway, I don't think you'll notice.

Also, a larger rear sprocket will shorten the wheelbase.

How would it shorten the WB?

A larger sprocket has a larger diameter and, given the same size chain, you have to move the rear wheel forward to accommodate the larger sprocket. (rear wheel needs to move forward 1/2 the difference in diameter between the smaller and larger sprockets.) We're not talking a huge difference, but small differences in wheelbase can have a significant impact on handling (if I recall correctly, the Panigale has one of the longest sportbike wheelbases). Of course, if you're replacing your chain at the same time you replace the sprocket, you could always add an extra link.

From the other thread (A new thread seeking to clarify):

Hi STW,

The TSB-12-005 relating to the update was apparently dated to early December 2012.

As we have not heard of anything new happening in this regard since we have had our updated maps, i think it would be safe to assume that we already have the relevant version.
Just a good guess i suppose.

Regards,
Brad

Well Bummer,, I was hoping for an even newer map lol...

Forget about the upmap, the latest thing now is the remaps - just take your existing map, and put it back on again. You can hardly tell any difference!

Okay, so the new map is not the new map it's the old map and will not change A/F mixture in the least, it will only readjust TC and ABS which doesn't need to be readjusted and the new sprocket will both lengthen and shorten the wheelbase. ...And I should have a metallurgist check that I have the best Ti bolts. Got it, thx.

to my knowledge

1. chain will be too short.
2. id does make quit a difference when it pulls. will influence DTC and that will determin the final effect.
3. range. totally depends where and how you ride now. it may pull you in a higher gear more easily or it can make you make more revs. it can also make you avoid tho have to rev the sh.it out of it to move..

id did change it on the 999R to 41 and it is noticable.. it will closen up the hole 4,5 to 7,5K revs a bit...

if you want it gone amap, the standard maps have to be changed out to a full on bike mapping

Just wondering how much of a pita it is changing the chain?

Guess you have to fit in split, through the swing arm, then join the final link?

Never done that before:confused:
