Spoken like a true biased American pumping up the local auto industry. It would be unpatriotic to state otherwise.

I work for a German company....

Anyone can read consumer reports or JD power or whatever source you want that will tell you Ford's reliability is currently higher than Audi's, you don't have to take my word for it

I always said my views were entirely subjective..:) but you miss my point I think..I am in no way saying that a modded base is the same as an SL....My point is that if you modify a base as listed... Admittedly I omitted the mag wheels... then take these 2 bikes to the track..then for 95+% of people they will be equivalent...... if you are a top 5% rider the SL will be quicker...but to most they will be the same.... this is my point...;)

LOL's ok...well...i see & understand your point.....mine is: you'll be on "that" and i'd be on the "SL" :) - thats all i'm sayin' :D

I'm lost as to your point so it's not the cost you have an issue with??

Or is it the fact that with your mods you have a quick track bike that will be have almost the same performance as the SL but a the end of the day you still have a base or whoever bike you have but not an SL.

and on being faster if i take out a motogp bike i guarantee you will be slower around the track then on any of my bikes simply because i am not good enough rider to reach it's potential however i'm still going to buy one if my numbers come up on the power ball.:)

My point is this..To all intents and purposes I can build an equivalent bike for half the price.... The fancy unobtanium stuff isnt going to make a difference to my speed...

Well that's an unarguable point...:p..But I will have $30000 in my pocket too... and at the end I can remove all those add ons and resell them ... Ohlins will resell for around 80% of original price... Akra?? Who knows... so even if we disagree..and we do;)... I hope you can see "some logic" in my viewpoint??:p

....LOL's now thats a good one......"logic"......you're riding a Ducati, and want to discuss logic...try going to Germany, buy a BMW, and look into Kant or Nietzsche....leave the Italian bikes for the rest of us :)

You make a good point...Kant is a little weird for me though.... Hume is more style... being the skeptic I am:D

Amazing piece and so happy that Ducati brings such items to market. Even if i can't currently justify the price. The simple fact that comes to market, means it will quickly trickle down to the other models.

Lighter weight sounds fantastic. The fact that it comes ready for the street or track is also fantastic.

The only piece I'm jealous of is the Wheelie Control. You can review my posts from early on this forum and see that is the piece I so dearly wanted. Light weight, high HP, short wheelbase = hard to keep the front end down. Seems like all the potential was there to add it to all the 1199's.

I'm currently converting my base (ABS) to track and race only as I felt is was way to fast for the street. DWC would be so welcome. I hope there is some way it can be added.

Go Ducati.

Now, I do believe you will see Honda offer the V4 for a similar price here in the USA. I suspect the Honda will not be as pretty, but likely to more reliable. Frankly, I get treated so well at my Ducati dealer, I might still choose the Ducati if I had the choice.

are you sure you don't own a Jap bike as that's the argument they come up with all the time

 I know what I own...Do you??...and FYI....the Japanese make very good bikes..ZX10 for example...

....actually i prefer the zx6......"who needs more than 100+hp anyway"

LOL of course i know what i own, and you are right some of the bikes they make are great and at half the cost of the Ducati or so i'm always told

exponential

STW, I hear what you are saying man, but this bike will make you or anyone faster around a track vs. a heavily modified base. The electronics package on the SL alone will enable anyone to access more of this bike's potential vs. whatever electronics you put on a heavily modified base. The base will ultimately be harder in terms of accessing its potential vs the sophisticated SL. And, the modified base will be sitting at the side of the track broken if you try to keep the SL in sight for any length of time. The SL's parts and technology working together make it exponentially better in terms of performance and accessibility than any base modified to any level.

it s simple. If you want that weight to output ratio and all the gear to keep it in check ( brakes/suspension/electronics) then that is what it costs..

So i do not see much 'exclusivity' premium... it's what it costs.

you can easily spend 18K on carbon, painting and magnesium and still not come 6Kg close to the weight of the SL ... adding the extra 10bhp will set you back another 10K just in blueprinting and 6K in bits.. and then there is the suspension and electronics to go for....

the only disappointment i see on the bike is the plastic electronicsholders and strip around the radiator... the radiator in itself that could have done with some improvement..

so to want...

now to need?

Hex sure has a point... the culmination of small things that seem not so important of noticable on themselves do make for big differences.. and the SL does that to the R in a big way .. -10KG/+10BHP is a biiig step...

Why do I need 10hp??
