Anyone got the base model yet?

TBH, I could pay cash for any of the three models but chose the base. As others have said, it looks amazing and while the electronic suspension is quite trick, I feel as if it would ultimately go unused - not to mention the wires going into it are ugly. The looks of the Tricolore just didn't do it for me.

Base + suspension upgrade and I'm happy. Not gonna lie though, I'm jealous of those LED headlights.

I cansee them being available from ducati as an outrageously overpriced upgrade if demand is there...

Also ebay will have a few from guys just tracking their s models!

Just handed over full payment for my base w/ abs... No turning back now!!

Hi gentleman. I'm looking at the standard as well, and have the same opinion that the previous 2 posts shared regarding the looks of the standard being more appealing. I am a sucker for Ohlins as I had front and rear on my 08 ZX-10r and noticed a huge improvement in performance & ride on that bike (and looks), but I'm really hoping to hear soon some feedback on the standard's suspension performance (hoping it's pretty good) and how it compares to the S. This will be my first Ducati (love at first sight!) and crossing my fingers the bike lives up to the hype..can't wait to find out!

According to most techs the Marzocchis on the base are some of the most advanced forks ever on a production bike. High quality and apparently very tunable. IMO the Sachs shock is the only questionmark

I got "the call"!! Thank god, just when i was starting to get cold feet...

My base ABS has arrived and is being PDI'd in time for mid-next week. I wont be free to pick it up till next weekend though.

Will have the carbon front mudguard so will post up some photos.....

Life just got a whole lot better. :D

i would like to se more pictures of the base panigale cause i have not seen one also pictures of the front forks how fat in diameter please if its possible

I'm in the same boat. Wish the LEDs were at least an option on the base just like the ABS.

Yes, pressurized forks. We are definitely like minded, I agree the only thing questionable is the Sachs of .... shock. I will give it a try after a visit to my suspension guru. Probably won't bother changing it until I take it to the track next year.

Unless you're doing competition racing the "heavy wheels" (400g heavier than 1198s wheels) isn't going to make a difference to the average day rider.

We've been through this, no?

Agreed 400g is nothing, but what difference do weight comparisons make to an 1198?

The Marchesini's are 2.1kg lighter as a comparative package, between 1199 and 1199 S/Tric models.

The way I ride, without so much bar counter steering, I think I would notice, but hey, that's just me.

I'm desperately trying to make myself feel better for going for the base. :p

I don't get it. Is it the overall weight of the bike that makes the difference or do lighter wheels affect the handling in a superior way?

Wheels are unsprung mass, being below the point where suspension acts, so carry a higher dynamic weight penalty, if you will.

Wheel weight also magnifies the gyroscopic resistance to direction change.

Exactly; the front's probably about a wash unsprung weight-wise with the RAC50L's lighter AL lower tubes offsetting the higher std wheel weight, but you'll still have the gyro effect. People do underestimate the gyroscopic inertia effect on accel/decel/direction changes though. grab a spare bicycle wheel by the axle sometime and spin it, then try to tilt it back and forth quickly. Then imagine 20+ kilos spinning at 100+ kph. Or a 7-8 kilo crankshaft spinning at 10,000+rpm. Takes some force to move...

Nothing you'd notice in steady state riding or smooth, gradual turns, but the lighter wheels would be noticeable to most folks if you rode the std and s back to back and were flicking it around.

hey bassie dit geloof je niet ik was op het punt om naar zaltbommel te gaan word ik ZELF GEBELD. mijne is ook binnen ik heb hem volgende week woensdag met kenteken!!!!
