dastrix: i'm in the exact same position now as you were!

your bike looks FANTASTIC!

and yes if you ride, then it'd make sense to get the rider's bike

I dont think youll have a regret buying the RSV4 Factory. Despite what some people say here, Af1 Racing provides HUGE amounts of support in the US for the bikes.

In Australia, we have many great dealers but none better than Moto Italia

The 12/13 models are great, they have ironed out all the bugs and the bikes are rock solid in terms of reliability if looked after with good regular oil.

I was looking at the 1199 originally, hence my user account here and with all the recent recalls and problems it just screams the same tune friends have had with past ducatis.

The RSV4 is a riders bike

How can you beat this sound? Seriously

A couple of thoughts... I replaced my S1000RR with the 1199. When I started the demo 1199 I knew I had to have it. I bought a Ducati because I absolutely love Ducati's. Every time I start it, ride it, look at it, track it, I love it all the more. And I ride the snot out of it.

And like others here I've had my share of maintenance issues... Clutch master needing to be bled all the time, leaking coolant, leaking oil from rear cam / valve cover, lots of awesome heat from stock and Termi exhaust (just got the heat stuff installed last week but haven't picked it up to try it), oh, and the blinker issue too!

I didn't buy the bike for the fastest lap time, nor most comfy ride or the most reliability.

And Stw, if it helps, Sofi and Jeff wouldn't be disappointed if you got the Ape!

Tom

+1 :)

Just came back from test riding the RSV4. I liked it very much and want one, but...... The bike actually felt a bit boring and slow compared to the Pani!
Rode it for an hour, city and highway. My ass didn't hurt!!
Pani has to go as my arthritic, titanium reinforced body can't get comfy on it.
RSV4 is definately a contender for it's replacement.

Not sure why or how it could have felt slow...it's the faster motorcycle..maybe there was a problem. Ever tossed around the idea of the Diavel? Outside of the stock seat being horrible, due to it forcing your nads to squish on the tank (seat change would fix this), it's a very liveable bike, and lots of fun. Doesn't have the top end hit of the 1199...but has the duc name and head turning that the 1199 has. Kind of regret getting rid of mine, but still don't like it as much as the Aprilia.

AF1 is the best vendor i've ever dealt with! Makes the RSV4 experience truly enjoyable with all their knowledge and help

I looked at doing this but the trade value of the 1199 made it make no sense this yr....

1199 value is going to drop like a rock...it's not living up to the hype and disgruntled owners are popping up more frequently all the time. One has to do what is best for them for sure ,but might be best to get out while you can..it's not going to get better.

just keep it and add more bikes!

Dastrix, sorry mate, it just isn't a booming 1200 cc V twin Ducati..... No comparison really.

Here what was said at the recent Austest 2013 group bike tests down here by AMCN ,

" if you ride to tickle every sense you possess with a Motorcycle, the Ducati Panigale is the obvious choice in this group. Ex Aussie Suerbike champ Craig Coxhell grew horns out of his helmet every time he hopped on board, AMCN sub Boon could'nt stop talking about it and AMCN test rider David Watt had illegal thoughts bouncing around in his head at each twist of the key"

" it is the loudest bike of the group, insanely loud, with an evil bark that mixes high revs shriek with V twin rumble, and can be heard coming a mile away. It is also the lightest of the group and has an electronic package that rivals the other two ( RSV 4 and S1000RR)."

" It is the most narrow focused of the group .... But when caution is thrown to the wind and the red beast is wound up, it's wide bars oscillating in your hands and the two stroke like V twin, as it became to be known, is roaring beneath you, it adds a lot of Hyde to your Dr Jekyll"

" It feels alive in a way no others do... It's a bit un-Ducati like in some ways, in that it is a loud ruffian of a thing, and watching the effect it had on riders was amusing. It grabs you like few others, and backs it up with great forks , excellent electronics package and looks to die for."

" The Panigale lit people's passion the most, though it went both ways. Some couldn't get past it's quirks, others didn't care as long as they got to yank the throttle and listen to that engine and try and take the red devil to the edge. It's a polarising bike, but you will never forget the day you first rode one. "

Pretty much sums up why I love Ducati's...

No comparison...not so sure about that one.A piped RSV4 is a symphony that is tough to beat.Stock, the 1199 is for sure a bit louder, but both bikes piped....at idle for sure Ducati....at full scream...Aprilia all the way.
Calling a spade a spade, that's probably the best called review I've seen on the 1199. Probably why it stirs so much debate...those that are not fond...are really not fond and those that love it...love it. However,I'd like to see how they would review it after a week or 2 of riding it on the street. A day of testing..is just that.I felt the same as they did when I first brought it home...... We all get sucked in a bit by what we want to hear.We can read 10 negatives on what we own..but then read one positive...and that one has to be the right one..and vice versa. Not practical, but would like to see all the bikes reviewed over a few weeks or longer amongst multiple riders. Then, we could have a much better idea of where to read between the lines. At the end of the day...and brand loyalty...our egos and all the BS we think...the only review that matters is the one we TRULY believe and give.Things are going to get shaken up again soon.Yamaha has a new R1 coming out...Aprilia's next version of the RSV4 will be coming soon and I'l bet Ducati has a V4 in their next bike. I've been a bit hard on the 1199, as i fell into the not getting past it's quirks category. That being said, the above review is spot on about it stirring the soul...and really...through all the haggling and debating and jabbing...that's the most important thing. Ducati,MV and Aprilia all do this better than the others in my opinion...what is better is up to us.

If the Diavel ever gets a version of the Superquadro, it might end up the best motorcycle on the road. You'll be able to check off every box if and when that happens!

Needs much better suspension too...Ohlins perhaps?? As it is the ride is terrible...

Agreed, the ohlins upgrade they have makes a world of difference, but when i softened my stock set up, it was quite liveable. Problem with the diavel is people get confused on the rear suspension dial. - does not make it softer, + does... It was so harsh when i brought it home i thought somethin was broken.Once softened up..it was ok but for sure room for improvement. Tons of potential for that to be the ultimate streetbike. Many are calling the Tuono the best hooligan bike on the road...but it's looks are far from soul stirring.Looks like a crashed rsv4. If Diavel gets the Pani motor,I will for sure buy another. The lack of top end pull didn't do it for me.Just as it felt the party was getting started...you were on the rev limiter....

Totally agree on the motor... I hit the rev limiter more on that bike than any bike I have ever owned..with that and the rough ride is why I dumped it...The Diavel just wasnt for me... Naked bikes are not my thing I figured out...

Wow this has become a bit of a bashing for the Pani!

I've done 15,000km on mine, mechanically trouble free. The only issue has been the dash which has been replaced. This has been a very reliable bike to date.

IMHO the Ape looks dated, past its sell by date so unless 2014 brings a new model then Ducati has nothing to fear from Aprilia.

Even though I have a brand new (run-in) HP4 downstairs I am anxiously awaiting the retun of my Panigale.

The Diavel.......HERPES!!!!

Haha, funny. I felt the same way about the front of the bike, kind of reminds me of and ugly locomotive engine. The I test rode one at Daytona Bike Week this year and wow, what a machine. Comfort, power and handling. Now I look at them and they really are growing on me, especially the red/white 2013 color. Still cruiser-ish but with a clear homage to the Corse heritage. Seems like a perfect stable-mate for the Pani but that new Hypermotard SP is cheaper, lighter and probably just as comfortable, and I know the fun factor will be off the charts. Decisions, decisions.

The reviews that I've read on the Diavel have been good but.....I'm a shallow person. I just can't get myself to throw a leg over it.

just took my RSV4 to the track yesterday and had a fantastic time. I wasn't timing laps on the Pani so I can't compare on that basis but my knee pucks got much more wear than they ever did on the Pani, so I'm obviously more comfortable throwing the V4 into turns even on the first day. Acceleration seemed every bit as good as the Pani out of the turns; I was not expecting the grunt the bike ended up delivering in anger. Looking forward to seeing how the Race ECU improves it when I get it loaded. Already have the Akro pipe, just not the map. Could not be happier with the new girl's track performance. Also, no anxiety about damaging the bike on the track, which I admit was always in the back of my mind. Cheap to fix and not a beauty queen regardless - although the faster I ride her the prettier she gets.
