Hey Wallaroo.

Have you got a copy of the quote I could see please?
Blank out any details you don't want me to see.

Interested in the $1400 difference I've got for mine and what the conditions of your quote are.

I'm pretty much a perfect insurance 'risk' as far as I can see.
Quote is 2300 though.

Maybe it's a WA thing...

Here you go.....You will see it is a quote for a 2012 1198 and that is because they took the value of the bike closest to the $39,700 of the TRI as it is not listed yet.
Excess is $600.....I have had my 996R insured through them and as I said I will do my CTP through them......no claim's ever and just the usual stuff that keeps the price down.
I also asked about adding on around $15,000 of extra's and no worries there as well, just pushes it up a bit......but still nothing like the others.

Ta. I was more interested in the 'information you provided them'... Such as

Age
How it is garaged
Where it is garaged (Suburb)
How many kms per year
Previous history
Clubs
Advanced rider courses
etc

Like I said, I reckon I ticked all the boxes - and $2300
34
no claims
65% ncb
$600 excess
4-8k kms per year
garaged
alarmed
decent suburb
preferred rider

That's Shiite

i rang NRMA today
from victoria quote ended up $2500
insure my ride $1588.45
not sure how your getting that price ?

They did ask me how long I have been riding bikes and what experiance did I have......Well I am 56 yrs old, ridden bikes since 13, raced in West Aust when younger and never made a claim and have had Ducati's since 78.

Maybe that is the difference.....I dont know, but even with that, Swann wanted $2031, QBE $1338 and NRMA you saw.

Rhino I also put down the same K's as you and I tick exactly the same boxes......except I am country and live on my farm.

ah ! Pensioner discount !
thats why LOL

Seems that if you tick all the boxes the quote for companies that have the 1199s on their system in vic is anywhere from 1800-2500

back on the topic of delivery of bikes from fraser Sydney. I just go off the phone to them, and there official first shipment is due in 1 month (12 bikes). With 2 bikes coming in 10 days before that as those guys put deposits down 1 yr out.

Asked about a launch party for Sydney and names have been given to the marketing office for the launch party so expect something if your one of the lucky few (me!) who are in the first shipment.

its getting closer guys!!!

looks like SA is getting it before Melbs now...

DucatiAustNZ: The 1199 Panigale will be on showcase at Ducati World (1075 South Road, Melrose Park, SA) from the 26th -28th of April. Don't miss out on...

Has anyone used NRMA (for a bike) before and been happy with the "post event" response?

If not, can i suggest that you check that out first.

I like to know that my insurance gives me real insurance in case of an event. I haven't used NRMA for years, for that reason.

I do know some that have been quite happy but generally that was where they had a fleet of vehicles, spent lots of premium $ and went through a broker.

There has been much publicity of smash repairers around Sydney (for cars) complaining about assessors using rates from many years ago and not being able to do a proper repair job and some have gone out of business.

I've also known of house insurance and people with difficulties there.

Just suggesting you check it out first and be happy.

I got a quote from QBE (who insure my S4Rs) for the Tricolore and it pretty much matched what's been noted above. I'll get a quote from NRMA, to compare, and go back to QBE, but for $50 or even $200 (if QBE are good with claims) I'll sleep better knowing that I've got good insurance.

Having said all that i don't know how QBE will respond to a claim. All my other insurance (house, cars, contents, green slip) is with GIO (has been for many years now) and they've been exceptionally good. :D But ... they don't do bike insurance :(

How unkind LOL

I'm with Wallaroo, or closeish ... only minutes off 56, ridden since 15, raced enduro in 70's and fell in love with a Ducati in 1975 when, after a Uni bike club meeting a group of us were heading home through the tunnel leading onto the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the guy on the Ducati 750SS was right near me going BOP ... BOP ... BOP ... every few seconds (or so it seemed) and then he opened it up !!!! MAGIC :D:D

.... ... I'd eyed off Ducatis before but at that point I knew I had to have one. It took many years in the bikeless wilderness (sometimes called an " ex wife") before I was finally able, but it did happen.

I thought I wouldn't (or "my old body") be able to cope with a 1098 so I got the S4Rs. Then one of my old uni mates turned up on his 1198S that he'd been keeping secret from me and I knew I had to add an 1199 to the garage.

I still feel more comfortable on an enduro bike, or hammering in a car, so can't join in on all the "knees down" chatter yet  ... but I've not given up and will keep working on it :D

oh hell yeah! enjoy the 1199...no point in wasting time on other rubbish.

NRMA vintage and veterans gave a quote of $519 but only very low gear cover. Need to be over 40 and in riders club.

Great post mate:D

I also fell in love with Ducati in 75 when I threw my leg over a 74 750ss and that was it.
Ive done a lot of Motocross, tried nearly everything else and raced a RD350 for a few seasons......so we are pretty much on par bar the RD:D
Just take the Pani to a track with a instructor and u will get your knee down or go 2 up with Troy Bayliss:D

Delta....Just go riding with a cricketer, especially a wicketkeeper and he will teach you everything you need to know:D

Thanks mate :D

Great advice.

I've booked in for track day with Stay Upright. The intermediate session which i think they describe as being suitable for "novice riders or those returning to riding after taking a break". I read that as meaning suitable for an old timer ready to swing a leg back over! It also turns out that i know one of the instructors, a top bloke who has done some security work on my house and comes with a long history of Australian track successes and has been training riders of all sorts for years. He's nearly our age (not quite) so understands how the mind can have a propensity to write cheques that the body can no longer cash. :(

The advanced sessions sound appealing but they can wait ... baby steps for old timers ;) And for all you young bloods just remember that youth is wasted on the young !!! Today (pondering on the 55 km cycle we'd just done together) my son asked me howcome there's a lot of older blokes out on push bikes and that it seems quite expensive to get all the gear and yet the old blokes don't get out on all the gear all that often (he was also referring to me not getting many ride days in on the S4Rs during our Sydney wet and both the Ducati and push bike seeming like wasted toys :(). He ended up coming to the realisation (with some guidance only) that when you have the time and fitness and less responsibilities (meaning your young) a lot of people don't get into the stuff they then get into when they're 50+. He realised that money doesn't always go hand in hand with youth and spare time. Life lesson !! Oh yeh ... he's now in bed asleep, exhausted from a bit of pedalling :D:D He's preparing to be a millionaire by 21 so that he can right the wrong LOL

I've spent a number of days on race circuits (again, in my "younger days"), but always on 4 wheels, so this will be the first biking road track day :D

Wallaroo - your up in QLD. I think one of the miriad of posts had you mentioning roughly where you were, but can't remember. I would imagine " out on the farm" with 2, 3 or more 1199's would make a sensational photo opportunity. Of course the odd 1098/1198 etc etc wouldn't detract from the image either.

Anyone got any thoughts for a day/long weekend ride that ended in a coffee and a photo? Somewhere roughly on the east coast would probably be all it needs ... oh yes, and some bikes .. nearly forgot them  so it may be winter/spring before it could happen.

Does that seem doable or maybe a bit optimistic?

So the way I see it ...

We could all get our jollies.

Mrmaloo, mrwallaroo and I (and others of course) could turn up at DeltaIV's place and enjoy a bit of a ride and a yarn. Of course we'd be helping the younger folk (that's you DeltaIV) with understanding old timer's humour

There's still only one problem. No Panigale. :(

Wally (is that an acceptable derivative of Wallaroo?) ... you still got your RD350?? I reckon there'd not be many dry eyes if you did and we could hear it start up and watch you ride it round the block. :D

Surely i won't be the only one remembering things like Amaroo Park and RD350's and TZ350's. :D

An RD350 was stuff legends were made of for all young bikers with the TZ racer derivative looking better than sex (well almost )
