IRC blip shifter

Seems like it's a luck of the draw kind of thing. I've talked to several folks who swear it's the best thing ever. Also my biggest issue was getting stuck in neutral between first and second which (a) could have been my style of shifting and (b) unlikely to be an issue for racers who try to avoid 1-2 shifts anyways.

I thought I was having a problem with my stock QS and even bought a Cordona. Ends up it was a clutch microswitch which failed, causing my problems. I replaced it with a pressure switch banjo bolt and all is well with the stock shifter.

Being able to program is really the only to for sure get it right…there are just sooo many variables that to get it to shift perfectly in every situation and for each riders shifting style it’s nearly impossible for a mass produced bike.

Probably works well for about 20% of riders where the factory parameters match you, for everyone else you probably need it programmed specifically for you for it to be perfect.

HM has a nextgen QS coming out that allows for that, plus some machine learning capability that will do some if that for you, but it’s not out yet.

It’s on their website though, so maybe it won’t be long.

Could you please post a pic or two of the micro switch in question and the part number of the banjo? That would be helpful for us to try.

Stolen from Reddit, this is the clutch microswitch. When my QS finally quit working completely, the microswitch had continuity in both positions, meaning the bike always thought the lever was pulled in and thus the QS would not operate at all.

I suspect its a part which would be worlds cheaper to buy from Brembo instead of Ducati should someone want to replace theirs.

This is the banjo pressure switch. I spliced and soldered the wires with heat shrink and everything is contained under the black rubber cable shielding, so it looks OEM.

You are a good man, thank you for sharing this information.

What were your symptoms of a failing/failed clutch switch? Lurching on upshifts?

One other thing I keep forgeting to mention here.

Sometimes it’s the smallest thing that affects these blip shifters, on my previous Streetfighter V4S those little red after market throttle spacers that take the play out of the stock throttle affected the throttle position sensor just enough to make my blip shifter go off for downshifts

Missed upshifts which eventually progressed to what seemed like a total failure of the QS. It wouldn't function up or down. The clutch switch is easy to test with a multimeter though.

Also, that Kramer is a sick bike man, which one did you get?

I have had the "EVO 2" (690 single) for a few years. I am on the wait list for the "GP 2" (890 twin) and they don't have any available, which is the entire reason I even bought a V4S to pass the time till the Kramer becomes available (first world problems, I know). I love the kramers and wouldn't ride anything else if I didn't have to.

I talked to those guys, in the spring they’ll have the GP 2 ready to go.

They is slot to like about those bikes, but something that’s attractive for me is how much time they spent on making it robust in a crash.

Seems like a very hardy bike besides it’s performance

dont have V4 but I ran the Cordova quickshifter on the 1299 and it was a lot better then stock, but odly I still had the false neutral from 4-5th gear Sometimes when shifting it would band the rev limiter no matter what rpm im in and shift into 5 .... was so weird.

I went to put the HM on last night and and stripped the screws holding the rose bolts onto either end if the blip shifter, annoying, I think Ducati sources nut bolts abs screws made out of clay, crazy how easy they strip.

Will have to tap the screws and lift them out then try to find two replacements…so the bike will probably out of commission for several days over two 50 cent screws.

I’m of a mind to just take the bike to a shop abs tell them to replace every screw bolt and nut on it lol

Which screw do you need? Is it one of the flange head ones that hold the shifter to the linkage? No one sells a 18mm length around here without going to Grainger or Fastenal. I don't think McMaster Carr had them either.

I've gotten good at using a dremel to cut a slot in Ducati bolts so I can take them out with a flathead screwdriver.

I think a fairly well known poster on here completely stripped his bike from new and replaced every nut and bolt. Fastidious he was. Pictures of absolutely everything, very impressive.
Then, loads of people called him a ...... and he left and started ducatimodified.

Its the stuff of legends really. Doubled the cost of the bike with Ti fasteners and Cerakote.
I have seen that build and more like it. At that point it's a bit pointless. All those titanium nuts and other dress up people do don't do a thing for performance. People do them because it brings them pleasure. In the same way cooking or painting or any other creative activity brings anyone pleasure.

I'm in this hobby for riding fast around a race track. Titanium and carbon and other dress up for the sake of dress up has no interest for me. Carbon wheels? Sure. Carbon ignition cover? Couldn't give a crap. Magnesium wheels? Sure. Titanium hardware anodized to match your paintwork? Couldn't give a crap.

+1 for sure. They are very bad. If any bolt gives me any disagreement when coming out...provided I can get it out, it gets replaced. It probably worth saying though that changing the type of the bolts, black oxide to stainless steel would change the type of loctite you would have to use to keep all things equal. Regular blue locktite will work to a degree on stainless, but it doesn't work as well as it would on black oxide. You can get primerless loctite which has a slightly different number and is usually only sold at more industrial shops like Grainger, etc.
