thats great..!! do you have any idea when we get Chapter 2 on the project1408 site ? Nov 7th...?

Nope, I stake no claim over the marketing/launch of this one. Well familiar with the product itself, but timing of the soft stuff was finalized after I left. And frankly I don't agree with a lot of the decisions that were made. For me (so far, at least) the first one was the marketing masterstroke...of course I am highly biased :D:D:D

I don't see what is wrong with this tire. I see a tire that has been used on the street after a track day. Nothing more. There is nothing here that looks like a suspension problem. No cupping, no cold tearing, no signs of over heated compound. Yes the edge has rubber rolling off but that is to be expected. Maybe you guys are seeing something I am not in these photos. If so please point it out. But from what I see the tire looks good.

I'm still gonna have it tuned by Dave Moss but I'd love to hear the reasoning behind it all. I do believe the PO changed the geometry as some of the bolts are out of markings...

During the AMS Ducati / Austin Ducati hosted track days at MSR Cresson, you would typically see 3 or 4 Superleggerras, a mix of several Panigale R, 1299, and 1199 bikes, and various other Ducati, BMW, and Aprilia bikes modded to the hilt, all being ridden harder than it is to read and understand your posts...

If you don't believe me, head down and visit during their next event and you will likely understand just how big of an ....... you sound like.

^^Yup, this..^^

Hell, these guys even let a schlep like me take one of their SLs out for a session. They ride the piss out of them and wouldn't have it any other way.

Great group of passionate and kickass motorcycle guys.

were you in agreement over the carbon airbox "frame", swingarm and rims? i suspect not ;)

I agree. Looks decent to me. Nothing out of the ordinary.

This is just my view NorCalDuke. But the only reason I believe those bolt marks have moved is that your shock was part of the recall and was either replaced or removed to inspect. For piece of mind...I know this is a little tedious of what I am asking but you can always count the thread on the spring preload to a stock bike and if they are both the same I would say you are fine in the org setting department. Or you can check the length of the shock to see if that has changed.

Back to your tire wear. Now I have a few years of roadracing under my belt. 15+ years AMA and WERA and I have seen more tires than I care to see in that period. But there is NOTHING with the tire wear I see to remotely suggest you have an issue. With that said I can not account for how you feel on the track and what the bike is doing. But I do know that this bike is extremely sensitive to setup as far as going fast for expert/pro guys. But to the Novice/ Intro guy......for your tire looking like this you are good. Remember I am saying the tire looks good. I am not accounting for how you feel on the bike. ie unstable under braking, unstable mid turn, wobble on the gas mid turn, inconsistent feel in the same turn latter in your session. This is more about setup to get the bike handling the way you want.

I am going to go thur my phone right now to see if I have an example of my rear tire after 2 days of track time Expert/Pro sessions. You will see an example of a tire with great wear (as in good) that really does not look much different than yours with street and track wear. I hope this helps you feel a little more at ease.

One other quick note. DO NOT let someone that is tuning zx10 gsxr R1 and CBR touch your bike unless they have a bunch of time working with 1199's or 1299's. I dont care how good they say they are. Its your arse on that bike. Protect it. With that said if you do have someone touch your bike. Write all your setting down and measure EVERTHING before they touch it. This include going thru your dash and taking a photo of your current settings.

Oooohhhh man, TJ99, you're still reading the forum? Wow! Great!! Fantastic!!!!
Tried to get in contact with you, even at your new employee, without success.
As for the new SL: It seems that (Ducati) history repeats itself. I just recall myself what happenend with the Desmosedici....

It seems there's no cure against management stupidity :(

That's an excellent question. I don't want to throw any shade on this bike. But I will say I'm not a fan of any material for its own sake - it has to support the product brief i.e. its benefits have to outweigh its drawbacks for the application. Once the full specs on the 1299 SL are made public you'll be able to judge for yourselves whether the benefits of carbon here are worth its drawbacks (cost, difficulty of evaluating post-crash structural damage, etc).

Strategically speaking though, I wouldn't have given the super-exotic treatment to the flagship Pani platform, this soon after the 1199 SL. If I were calling the shots here you'd be looking at a different kind of special this year, something like a "track spec" 959 or a supercharged Diavel.

F'n hell is that ever true. The more experience I get, the more I realize that leaders with real vision, and the balls to execute on it, are few and far between.

If you need to get in touch Gecko, just PM me on here.

Thank you!!!
(BTW: after months of waiting and no feedback at all from Ducati, I'll get my Anni tomorrow). Can't wait to see/read/hear what's happening on your side. Please note me as future/new customer :) :)

Thanks for all the good info man! THE Dave Moss is going to tune my bike so I'm confident it's gonna be perfect! Right now, the suspension is set in Dynamic mode.

I'll check with the dealer to see if the bolt marks moved as part of a tune or shock replacement...

Sorry for hijacking this thread too btw :D

Sorry, was never trying to give you bad info NorCalDuke and maybe my eyes are off looking at it from a tiny pic on my phone vs actually seeing it. I'll admit, I'm no expert and would be curious to hear how the suspension setup goes with Mr. Moss as I'm always willing to learn.

No worries dude, like I said I wanted to get a suspension tuning and the comments just made me act on it sooner :) Meeting with Dave next week! Will post about the experience!

It is impossible to get! Unless you are this one bloke who has an RS16. He must be extremely connected to Ducati corse and have tons of money. Probably a rich guy. You don't have the connections to buy that bike even if you had the money. Its not about having the money. it's about who you are connected with. And Akra told me personally they would not make the WSBK exhaust for the public. It is exclusive for SBK teams.

Hi. I understand and appreciate the commments. You are right and wrong. Wrong in the sense "I am a rich guy". Getting this bike has been a dream since 1995 when I first watched Carl fogarty win a race at Donington Park on the then new 916 and seeing it after and vowing to myself one day I would own one. So little by little I saved in the hope I would get the chance.

You are right in terms of who I know. I was lucky enough to get a SL and then sent it to BSB team MotoRapido to turn into wsbk killer. I thought this my dream of 1995z. We did the bike and it's awesome. Ducati found out about it and because of this project wanted to know more. I told them my story and they offered me the RS.

My job is tough and takes me places normal people only see in movies. Sacrifice and effort take me where I go. I am mad to have got the RS but it had to be done. Yes I am lucky and fortunately Ducati Corse took a like to me. Blessed but just a normal dude. No rich guy.

So good to hear of dreams being achieved.
My mom has always said that I have champagne taste on a beer budget. I save up my beer money for champagne as I prefer quality over quantity. Congrats on your RS16 again.

Tell me about it. I might be the only guy tracking a Panigale who buys used tyres only. My budget is for Japanese but I tracked a rented 999 for a season and that de-railed my obsession. On top of it all: my brother runs a Honda dealership...

Project1408 website update has been loaded:

Current Items List as shown in the Universe section of the site:

Forks will have light weight springs & outter tubes, and light weight billet machined fork bottoms
Rear Shock will have Titanium spring
Aluminum Tank - different shape (?)....it looks very familar - the site says Light Weight Tank, but not specific, as aluminum is light weight to begin with - they refer to "precisely shaped" for optimal contact but the picture isnt definitive enough
Titanium Screws "used throughout the project"

CARBON FIBRE
Frame
Swingarm
Rear Wheels
Front Wheels
Subframe
PRESTIGE MATERIALS
Titanium screws
Aluminium gas tank
Front fork
Rear shock

- some marketing fluff along with tasty graphics  "all good" !!
