So while in Spain on my way to Jerez I went past ducati in Madrid. ....! Basically an 899 in Spain is more expensive than an 1199s is in the States. When I told the guy I had an R model he ..... There is only one officially sold in Spain and two in Portugal. Then he broke down the whole bike ownership deal in Spain and licensing and what not. Then I asked if he sold any bikes at all...lol. He sold three monsters that day. BTW the new monster is nicer than I thought it would be...I had an '09 monster S,...this was definitely nicer. I think it will compete with the diavel though.

We are blessed in America!

I just can't square how the hell they produce so many GP champions given the economy and the difficulty in trying to own a bike here.

Will try to get good shots at Jerez and post...kind of pissed they told me yesterday they will not have a paddock walk :(

Welcome to the world of European biking, the UK is no better than Spain a good mate just bought an R and it was nearly twenty seven thousand pounds !!then you have road tax insurance and fuel at over two dollars a litre ??

Regarding the paddock walk same mate and I do a trip to a GP every year, we treat ourselves to VIP village and have always had a paddock walk and a pit lane walk so not sure what is happening at Jerez ? maybe it is just if you have a village ticket !!

We are going to go to Aragon this year but if somebody doesnt start beating MM we may already be watching the 2014 world chamion ? enjoy your GP

Paid 17200€ for a used 2013 1199S with 1700mls + termi slip ons, upmap and DP racing seat included. I ain't complaning, a Yamaha R1 new costs the same :D

You also have better prices for the cars, so... My R had a list price in Switzerland of more than 45000USD, you get it for under 30000USD... See the "problem" for the same model/specifications?:eek::D:D:D

Have a nice day

Richi

And for this 45000USD you don't even get the charcoal canister, what a shame

seriously, prices in USA are generally super compared to old Europe!

Worse at Asia, an R here cost you $ 65k usd, i bought my base at $34k usd now whooping to $48k for brand new 2015 base, so yeah God bless america..cheers

Now that will be a ride. I miss the European roads. Great roads in Switzerland, and if you can make it into South of France as well. (Route de Napoleon is mint!)

Amen to that.

It's pretty simple how Spain has its Pedrosa's, Marquez's and Lorenzo's (and Criville's, Nieto's, etc.). Motosport is the country's pastime, like baseball in the USA, and is more popular than F1, the reverse of most countries. Kids start racing mini-motos by the time they can walk, and progress through a thoroughly-developed club racing infrastructure that is designed to have the cream rise to the top. Most don't ever even own street bikes, other than scooters as normal transportation. Motosport is viewed completely differently than "street riding" like us 'Mericuns understand it.

It's also so popular with the whole country that the domestic large industries with the big marketing budgets support the sport in a big way because it actually provides return on investment (i.e. sales) for oil companies such as Repsol and telecoms such as Telefonica Movistar.

The analogy in the USA is that moto racing in Spain is the equivalent of NASCAR. Too bad, Sprint, Nextel, Mobil, Target and Tide couldn't spare some money for AMA Pro Racing, but the dozen or so hard core fans couldn't buy enough from them. :(

Paid 46k for my R here in Australia - USA def has the best prices for bikes!

We don't have your Zahltag though! Compare prices with income and we are right up there.

Paid €21,000 [$27,300] in Tenerife, Spain for my base. I felt violated cos I work out of the US & know how much of a premium I paid. Had to have one though.

Could you have bought one here and shipped it to spain? Or do they hammer you on duties? I suspect that is the root of the huge increase.

Spain batters you with import duty & taxes. So after you paid for the shipping as well it's not worth the hassle as you have to go through a mountain of paperwork to get the bike registered. I looked in to it when I bought my R6 years a go.

Yes... bikes are expensive in Europe.
And yes, there are only 2 R's in Portugal. One is mine and the price OTD is 33.500€, which is around $46.500 USD!!!!!

If on top of that you add the minimum wage in Portugal is 485€ and the average goes up to 900€-1000€.... you can have the idea of how hard is to get a bike!

Out of those 33.500€, 23% are taxes (VAT)... F****

Must go living to US!

Car pricing in Portugal is also a joke.... to many taxes!!!

For instance, a BMW X1 20d - diesel engine, fully loaded of extras, will cost you 60.000€ or $83200 usd!

I can't even imagine what kind of car would it be possible to buy in US.

For a Ducati Panigale 1199s ABS
Value = RM 67185.00
Import Duty = Rm 20155.50
Excise Duty = Rm 26202.15
Other taxes Payable = Rm 11354.27
Dealers profit margin + Cost = Rm 55991.08
Insurance for 180k sum insured = Rm 5000.00
Road tax = Rm350.00
total = Rm 186238.00(OTR)

My country has ridiculous taxes...

This is all insane. All I can say is you overseas friends have some great jobs to afford such expensive toys!
