For track days, long and light is the way to go but as you get better this becomes shorter and harder. Avoid trail braking as much as possible. Get all the braking done while the bike is vertical 👍 Don’t forget about the rear brake.

Fancy trail braking is for racing IMO

No brother, trail braking is absolutely a very good thing. It keeps the front wheel loaded and compresses the front forks which helps turn in stability and grip. The bike simply turns better and more safely with trail braking.

in fact remove both master cylinders, switch gear, throttle housing and clip ons as a one and replace. the switches are the important things as they move the bikes loom inboard .

small potatoes given the cost of your bike.

As much fun as it’s been learning what not to do from our little trackday hero, back to the master cylinder.

It’s interesting that they would put a 16mm piston master cylinder with 30mm piston brake calipers. I thought Brembo generally recommend 17mm for these brake callipers?

I’d guess a 17mm master cylinder would be a worthwhile upgrade, but then I’d be into changing switchgear as well.

Funnily enough, you’re not the first to say this. One chap said to do exactly that for the same reason you mentioned, aside from improving feel.

spider clip ons
BSD switch gear
brembo master cyls
jet prime throttle

oh and if you change the clip ons take off the std top yoke (particularly as its numbered) as that has a locating lug on it for the std clip ons and gets in the way of the aftermarket ones.

Good point regarding the top yoke.

I guess the improvement would need to be worthwhile to justify the cost, although it would probably also be decent insurance against the potentially higher cost of replacing OEM stuff in the event of damage.

I've just checked and the OEM parts aren't that expensive. Cheaper than the aftermarket stuff.

I reckon the throttle is good - zero slop and a shorter throw than my other bike. Apparently it feels similar to the Domino unit that people were using on the 2019 V4R.

If I move to a 17mm unit then I reckon that changing the switchgear is all that is essential because of fitment issues with OEM switchgear, as far as I understand it.

I'll have a look at fitment to see what you mean about moving the loom inboard.

They sell these to anybody, women, dwarf's etc. The different between a 16 and a 17 assuming the pivot is unchanged is around 6% less force at the lever. This is one off the most important personalization's, brake feel. You can readily get the switches off the bars. They locate using a hole drilled into the bar. Remove the switch connectors then you go in at the connector opening and release a rectangle tab and they slide off. So if you're moving them inwards you just need to drill another hole in the bar. I think it's really important that the grips are at the appropriate width relative to your shoulder width. You may want longer/shorter bars so I'd start with longer than stock bars and hack them down to suit. The clowncar bars are 1.5 inch wider than stock. This is for useability and if they're a bit wider it's easier to snap the bike upright if you have to stand it up and run it off.
