super hp4

I have seen that comparison before, and I like it a lot. Issue I have is that the R doesn't have the termi exhuast on it due to noise at that track. So you aren't getting the most accurate comparison of the two. But everything else is spot on IMO.

so with Termis the R would be even faster on the track than the HP4... LOL... so much for that public backroad "testing" where it "feels" faster nonsense....oh yeah and TAKE IT TO THE TRACK (before you hurt someone)....

now we all know (some begrudgingly) the s1000rr is superior to the base pani and the hp4 base and comp smoke the R. :D (see what i did there). well the rumor is there will be a super hp4 that will compete with the sl and get this at a price point of 30k. i guess the boys in bologna didnt really have checkmate.

Can we get back to the original subject? ;) Do you have any other info on this?

They have made some pretty big changes to the 2015 S1000RR base model, so I'd be REALLY interested to hear if they had something to compete with the SL.....

Eric Bostrom says at the end (6.10) that the HP4 was easier to go fast out of pit lane but the "R" was faster after he rode it a couple laps. The times were 1.33.07 in the "R" and 1.33.09 in the HP4, both are fast on Leguna Seca with Eric riding them at their limits.

I was thinking that they were testing the bikes as they come... I believe the R comes with the full termi exhuast with upmap as the HP4 comes with the akro. I must have been mistaken that the full termi adds nothing to the equation... Sorry for the miss information. Even without the 'even faster' termi full exhuast, he went faster around the track.

The R does not come from the manufacturer with the termis on it. They come with the bike but stock exhaust on the bike. Dealer can install it before delivery, after the sale.

I understand it doesn't come on the bike, but it does come with the bike. The test above did not put said exhaust on the bike due to the noise restrictions at the track. Just figured you would want to run it with the full exhaust for a better test. Just my opinion.

BMW superior....I think NOT from the evidence presented above. Case closed, move along...nothing to see here

A super hp4 will come due to the upgrade of the 15rr to almost standard hp4 level (BMW insider confirmed)
It will also try to come close to the SL technology-, weight- and sophistication wise but at a lower price (of course)

The '15RR will be a pretty nice bomb right out of the box.

So there's nothing "super" about it? It's just going to be a gen 2 HP4. They're taking what was supposed to be a limited run bike and making it into a regular premium model.

Maybe the existing HP4 is a fat pig and there are cheap ways to get it into the regular Panigale's weight class but it would be startling if they manage to get it below 400lbs in street legal trim while retaining their 20k/24k price points.

What's "close" to the SL?? 40 lbs heavier? Look what Ducati had to do to get a bike down to that weight! They got rid of the frame, made the headstock/air box out of magnesium, entire subframe is carbon, bodywork carbon, every bolt Ti or Aluminum, extremely expensive lightweight engine internals, forged mag wheels, etc. I have an 899 race bike that is as light as an SL is in street trim, and it is a $35,000 project. I'd speculate that to get within 25 lbs of the SL that BMW would be a $40k+ bike. And no one would buy it, because it would be worth $25k about 5 min after riding off the lot. ;-)

the takeaway once again is that Mark is an ..... and the Pani is faster than the HP4.

Jarel, I told him I was wondering the same, since Bmw doesn't have the same level ($) of enthusiasts... It's going to be limited and not that cheap. And it won't reach the SL weight wise.

That's all I know.

Don't sugar coat it, tell us how you really feel :D

i hear they do a lot of $ugercoating on the bmw forum....perhaps greener more at bluer/whiter pastures for certain Pani haterz no doubt...

Hope the BMW lovers know what the people in Germany say BMW stands for:
Bayrischer Mistwagen
Google it :D
