This thread…..

Nice bike, and not trying to be a jerk but I’m sure it will come off that way. All the semantics in this thread don’t mean .... really since you are new to bikes on the track. Having whatever part out of Ducati’s part bin isn’t going to be that advantageous relative to your riding experience.

My S that has R goodies on it didn’t help for squat compared to the practice in riding it on the track, not to mention the litany of stock .... I had to take off to make it a better bike. Quick shifter, rear sets, speed bleeders, and others.

Gotta love Ducati marketing.

so odd. "Ducati marketing"

Like all the dentists driving porsches know what do with them

I bought my first CF subframe in 2015 (CDT) the weight savings is significant for sure and I have had zero issues with it. This next build I decided to go with the Pierobon. It’s not much heavier than the CF piece and offers some advantages. One being price and two being modular (bolt on tail piece) so if you do crash it, you don’t smoke the whole thing, more likely just replace the tail. If I were to do it again on the first bike I would have gone Motoholders or Pierobon.

2400 for the tail is a bit much when similar results can be had for less than half that. I use the carbon tanks as well and I would probably do that before the subframe.

To Brad’s point, aside from the Ducati marketing shenanigans (well covered here) looks like you spent a bunch of money on bikes and are piling more money in to accessories (Super fun). For all but a very few that will limit the capabilities of the bike/rider as you will for sure limit your performance curve to match your potential loss if you bin that thing and you most certainly will at some point if you are really pushing progress. That’s just reality. Sure there are guys out there pushing their limits on SLs but that’s like spotting the great pumpkin.

I can’t ride worth a .... but I like really cool stuff so I’m personally, fairly safe from writing checks to cover losses. If I was going to learn to ride at some point I would definitely be on a POS 600 not 40k worth of bike with 15k of accessories. On the bright side Mike and the guys at NB Ducati are pretty good dudes. If anything goes poorly, they will take care of it.

same with mine, though probably 10-12k he put into it...

mine is #292...what all was done to yours mod wise?

full titanium akro exhaust + new lower fairings + map, emissions equipment delete, rizoma everything, air filter, shorai battery ….

Paul makes an interesting statement. Steven does a nice job with his bikes and he’s putting money into them. Most guys who have money to spend, their bikes are a work in progress. How far it progresses and when it ends usually depends on the checkbook. Once in a while you get a guy with a new bike and he just goes nuts and does the whole thing and basically ends up with a completely different bike then he started with. Lived in Newport Beach OC for a long time. There are a .... ton of expensive bikes here. As a general rule, the more “accessorized” the bike the more the lean angle stays under 20 degrees.

An exception would be someone like RD16RR. Two SLs and he rides the piss out of them. There are also a lot of really good track riders and road riders on this board as well however In general just based on my own experience I would say 90% of the Ducati riders I have come across who have a decent amount of $$ in their bikes with all the fancy accessories fit squarely into the “cars and coffee” group. Aside from the fact that I’m not a “bike guy” and don’t socialize with other riders I would probably fit into that category as well. Nothing to be timid about, just own it.

Fancy farkles.

Cheaper to drop weight by cutting sugar and hitting the gym.

LOL don’t go throwing logic in there at this point. I’m guessing fitness is a part of the Ducati lifestyle but most of the heavy lifting is pulling the wallet from the pocket at least from what I have seen. Anyone in shape here?

I use to be the guy that went on a 12 mile run because it was nice out. No ..... That was maybe 8 years ago. This last week I had a bit of a hit to the nads with a heart issue that sent me to the ER. It really re-aligned my priorities.

Take care of yourself Ducatista.

Invest in yourself and invest in your skills. Farkles be damned.

I got the mod bug a long long time ago, modding and tweaking stuff is almost as fun for me as riding or driving stuff.

but

Most of what I add or take away these days is for fun factor, for me, fast and light is fun...and good contact points...so rider driver position I’ll spend money on, brakes and suspension to so I can feel the bike/car...and speeed...i mentioned this earlier but I have an 1100 WHP Porsche convertible abs have 20 years of track time in on the curvy courses, but that’s in cars not on bikes so it’s a learning curve but the same principles apply...seat time seat time seat time for faster lap times.

but I’m not looking for faster lap times on this bike at 50 years old...I’m looking for thrills, and the Adrenalin rush I’m long addicted to.

my Porsche is mostly a straight line car set up for half mile and mile airstrip events...it’s WAY faster than any bike I’ll ever own, I’ve drop $150k on top of the $230k purchase price on that Porsche to make it legit world class, possibly world leading FAST.

this bike is a cheap date by comparison...the dopamine per dollar spent ratio on the bike is WAY better haha

the problem is that I’m USE TO very light and very very fast cars, so I want this bike to be light and fast for the THRILL of it, not for ultimate lap times.

if I were chasing 10ths on a bike I’d buy a 600 and do 30 track days before buying a bike like this

I probably should have been a little clearer when asking for advice in my original post about whether to get this bike or the R...I didn’t want the one that will ULTIMATELY give me the best lap times if I ever get to the point where I’m using 90% of these bikes potential...that’s not what I’m looking for to decide...it’s just straight up thrill factor and fun factor, which bike would be more of a rush to ride hard without killing myself out in the real world with a few track days a year?

I thought there was something wonky about this thread and there it is. The references to a “cheap date by comparison” and just “throwing down the card” pretty much paint the picture. See ya at the Starbucks with the rest of “those” guys.

Reminds me of when I was at a track day right after the V4 came out in 2018 and a guy on his V4S had the DP brake lever guards. One had a bolt work itself loose so it got all floppy. I told him I had a set of tools and could easily button it back up, to which he replied, "Nah, something must be wrong with it, I'll just buy a new one." I then recommended he get the TWM ones since they are literally the same thing without the DP logo and half the price, because 300 dollars is a lot of money for something so small. His response was a scoff followed by, "300 bucks ain't .... to me, kid. I want the best of the best."

Lapped him on my base model V4 in the next session out of anger, lmao.

maybe ‍♂️

though unless Starbucks starts selling bourbon I’ll doubt you’ll see me abs the bike there at the same time lol

you’r more likely to see me pull up to Cook’s corner, walk in to take a piss, get a shot of Jim Beam, then head back out on the bike ;-)

also, while I’m not a bike crowd guy and don’t know all the clicks here or have any interest in getting caught up in them, I kinda think I know the corner your trying to paint me into? We have similar guys in the car world...

I ain’t one of em haha

I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth, I worked my ... off for my .......and, I win races, I don’t just show up for pictures ;-)

i’m a complete noob when it comes to sport bikes though, and you guys have been very helpful to my learning curve in this thread, so thank you for that ;-)

Workin hard for what you have or being handed everything. It doesn't matter. I think the point is that all the dollars being mentioned to prove some point isn't necessary. You have a heavily modded porsche. You purchased a new 916 panigale. I'm sure you have other expensive hobbies/expenses. One can come to the conclusion that you have some kinda money already on their own without the need for specific cost unless of course someone asks. Just comes off a bit bragadocious.
