The SP’s are apparently inspired by the winter test bikes, which are black.

Ya, I figured as much. However, I was hoping they would do something a bit different with the SP2 (like make it red instead).

Weve had this discussion before about the SP as a collection of parts with a paintjob. The question is can you buy the bits and create the functional equivalent for less money ? If you go that route you wont have an SP but if having a numbered bike is important and ready to roll then its SP all the way
Two comments, I have seen one one the flesh after been ridden with a bit of road grime and dust, like all black bikes it's unimpressive out of the showroom and staged photoshoots compared to a red bike, and having a stock exhaust is a bit of a let down but I understand why.

A numbered S with some less than favorable opinion parts.

Labeled as “the ultimate track machine” but you have to pay extra for slick tire software.

Lol…

Well someone did say announcement in sometime Q2. A 2023 release is a long wait....about a year from now. Can't wait to see if the DSSA is real or not. If it looks as good as the HP4 Race's DSSA, then I'm all for it. On the other hand, if it looks as stupid as the 2003 999's DSSA, then no thanks.

So is Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Porsche and several others yet you don’t see this kind of marketing BS (well, not nearly as much) being applied to those brands.

The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 and Spyder use the exact same engine and transmission as the GTS 4.0. Only main differences are aesthetics/aero, suspension bits from the 991.2 GT3. Kinda similar to the V4S -> V4SP/SP2. While not owned by the same group, BMW's CS line also follows the same marketing strategy. For someone like me who doesn't mod my vehicles much, the SP/SP2 makes a lot of sense.
