Really; does it matter?
Is that why you bought the Ducati, because you thought it was going to be the fastest down a straight, with the highest top speed?
I couldn't care less; but that's just me I suppose.

Lol....I have had Ducati's since 78 and they are the only bike I have ridden on the road bar the enduro's and a RD350 which I raced in a couple of road races.

So you can be sure I only bought it for one reason....it's a DUCATI:D

Look its a comparison...ducatis advertisement campaign...promised a ' checkmate "
seems they a bit off the pace...

we do alot of top end tests here...its south africa so some idiot stole the go pro 2 camera off the S1 ( good grief )

Dyno runs are rarely ''accurate'' because too many factors come into play. Surprised anyone is bothering. Yes the latest crop of superbikes post incredible numbers but they are more than just bhp machines. I haven't cared about bhp since my RC51.

I have had the S1000 now for over 2 years, it is a magic bike, and with a top end I doubt any company will beat for some time yet. My new Panigale is also a magic bike, dare I say sort of like a Ducati version of the S1000 I love it, but understand some might not.

We are spoiled for choice, incredible really.

Oh and those saying the Panigale needs more torque, or Hp or whatever, well, maybe they can get Stoners soon to be vacant seat. Down here in OZ Troy Bayliss believes this is better in every way to the outgoing 1198 and I sort of trust his judgment.

For sure so far, this is a game changer especially for Ducati, just as the BMW was ( and still is). Go and enjoy, we have never had it so good. And to those swinging in their choice, do not listen to the negativity on this forum, if you want a beautiful modern Ducati, you will not be disappointed.

Hi ! , I will be brief , I owne the two bikes , so it no ........ , Both has slip-on
and the truth is , the 1199 bit the Bimmer by a lot in a straight . In second or thirth gear , with different driver with similar weigh , the Duc took 15 lenght and verry quickly . I was verry surprise of that but we try at least 10 times and it was always the same result Wow , I've sold my BMW today to one of my freind because I only want to ride the Duc now :)

I will Post The video tonight Going WIDE ....... OPEN On the 1199Panigale.:p;)

I've been waiting a week for this video, finally:p

Iweent out last night with my frend he was on his bmws1000rr he said that .... its fast, Have to instal my corse screen cant tuck good but i cant say that bike needs a gear change in the rear -1.For more top speed.

They need to rename Race mode. I do not believe that race mode is politically and technically correct... they need to call it BEAST MODE!!!

I broke past 300 miles, and although you are supposed to wait til 620... I couldnt keep my hand still any longer. Plus my dealer said after 300, ride it like you normally do, I ride it like I stole it! So I raced 2 VERY souped up GSXR-1000's newer models, and I was passing them like a 1000 would pass a 600. After 8,000 rpm to 12,000 its just an entire RUSH of power, like no other bike I have ever rode! This thing is STUPID POWERFUL!!! I let them take off first down the highway, and then I blew past them like it was nothing. I couldnt believe what I was seeing! I asked them if they were full into the throttle the whole time and if they were just backing off, but they assured me that they were giving it their best. I was MORE than impressed with the Panigale power. By far the most amazing bike I have ever rode. I CAN'T BELIEVE I OWN THIS THING!!!

As it's is a totally new engine design and I wouldn't want any warranty issues, I'm doing the recommended run-in on mine, but is wet mode not being too gentle with it? You need to exercise it enough to get the rings to seat well and this best done during the early part if the run-in. Put it in Sport, you know it make sense ;)

I played with the RPM's and gears and did wet mode the first day. Second day I put it in Sport, I know your supposed to wait til 620 and then keep it at 7k til 1000 miles, buuuutttttt... my dealer said after 300 miles, open it up, so at least if something does go wrong, luckily I have a dealer that will not try to screw me over, plus they advised me this info in the first place, they'll do whatever it takes to make things right. I know a lot of people on here want to play it safe, but as long as you slowly increase your rpms gradually over several days (mind you I do about 200 miles a day average) then I dont see how it would not seat the bearings properly, gotta give the bike some juice! Well Ill let my bike be the guinea pig of the bunch. But I varied my rpm range while I was riding so as not to keep at a particular speed in a particular gear. I sped up, slowed down, changed gears, sped up slowed down, changed gears again, so on and so forth... like I said, ive rode it hard ever since yesterday afternoon and so far no issues. If my bike breaks for some reason Ill let you know.

My dealer and his tech both told me to flog the beast from the get go.

I'm still taking it easy for the first 300 though.

Wow, I guess in two years when someone makes a bike faster than the Panigale I will have to sell her...cause she just won't be the fastest anymore and I won't be cool either.

Ducati's are not that very fast in the strait. The 1098 lost to the cbr1000rr in the straits in the same way as the 1198 lost to the zx10r in the straits so when MCN did a test and it got creamed in the top speed department, no surprise for me. But then again that is just one test.

I am glad to read "real" tests done by bikers in the "real" world where advertisment pages does not taint the results. Nothing handles like a Ducati and to know that it is also fast in the straits is a bonus. an Icing on the cake so to speak.

If I would really like to have a fast strait liner, I would have gotten the zx14 but I am more of a twisties kind of guy so the Panigale is the bike for me

I don't think it should matter what mode you ride in during break-in.....just that you vary engine speed and dont exceed the RPM limits. The only thing that I can see is that Ducati asks that you follow the scheduled maintenance during the entire break-in period and if you dont it releases them from being responsible for engine failure and / or short engine life.

Why is everyone taking it easy for the first 300 miles? The most important miles are the first 200! (apparently) that's when you need to bed the seals and therefore after warming the bike up gradually increase the rpm every 10 miles but opening the throttle hard and rolling off too....? I would have thought this was the best way and then take it easier to let rest of the bike bed in...?

But I thought this thread was the 1199 vs S1000RR.....?

That is a no brainier... 1199S every time! That's my opinion after owning both...

I tried a Beemer, and the seat was just awful. So awful I went back to my dealer and sat on their Panigale. Sitting on it, I just felt back at home.
