So you can handle bike maintenance and repairs easy. No worries then. Just a matter of tools.

Matte black is already too popular anyways. The red stands out. It's obviously not a cheap shade of red and catches looks everywhere I go.

Also the Ohlins fork on the S can be upgraded further with a cartridge kit. The base is usually a complete fork set. Same with the rear I think. But there's badarse shocks available for either model.

So upgrading the forks later wont be as in depth awesome. Thanks again dude.

Wanting something so much that you want to lick it makes it a no brainer IMO. The same formula can be applied to choosing a significant other.

And thats how i married my awesome significant other :D

Anyone know if the tricolore s bodywork fits the 2014 S? My buddy has them in his garage as he races his bike.

Everyone i appreciate all the insight and experience you've shared. Almost a decade off of streetbikes im ready to go at it.

Test rode the base and felt front was too soft. Set up is everything and after much research bought the Tri. Same as S basically.

Set sag on the S and left for home and found it to be completely different than the base. Adjustable suspension and lighter wheels are the tits.

get the base and upgrade the suspencion with ohlins top shelf, they will be set up for you and is more fun is like getting a new bike every months, if I was you I will buy a used R for the price of a S

You mean they will install it for you or set it up before it ships?

nothing is free. u gotta buy the suspension and pay for labor. just hell with base and get the S! its a lot better plus its got cooler headlights ( on track it doesnt matter but it looks cool when u ride on street!) :D

Get a base for a bargain. With the 2015 models around the corner, 14 base models should be a steal. Invest the difference in front n rear suspension and some lightweight wheels and you can do the led headlight install yourself. I have instructions posted on here somewhere. You may end up spending the difference it would cost you to buy an S but you could always remove the aftermarket parts and sell them later if you sold the bike. Plus you'd have better components than the stock S model. If you're not a fan of customizing and want something functional out the box, then go buy an S. Half the fun for me is modifying and seeing it go through its transformation phases.

yg - i figured that I just wanted to be sure.

double0 - first superbike in 9 years looking for small mods more ready to go

The issue with modifying the bike is the problems the dealer/Ducati will give you with the warranty...

Electrical issues... well... you installed that LED headlight... denied... Same goes for anything else they can blame for the modifications you made.

I too like to modify my rides (bikes and cars). It is part of the fun of ownership. But I have no plans to do that with my first Ducati. My plan is to decide and then just buy it and ride... in my case, the more I think about it, the more I think that the right choice for me is a 1199S (or 1299S)... I just do not want the headaches of getting a 899, doing the mods, and then be out of warranty... My mods will be limited to adding a few mate CF pieces to replace the stock black plastics...

To the OP, just go with the S... all the goodies, non of the headaches for warranty work, just ride and have fun.

Ok first what is your lever of skill when it come to work on bikes? also did you got a garage? if you said no and no get the S

It take me 2 hour to swap front fork and 30 min to swap the shock, it take 2 hour to do a led headlight and unless you got a suck ducati dealer they wont .... with you for those mods. I just got my dash replaces last months again by magic city ducati in FL. that dealer is very mods frendly.

I'm thinking of buying a 1199 as well. This thread has been invaluable since I had the same question guys!
Thanks for being so helpful for new guys to the forum. :)

My dealer is fbf so they are very mod friendly.

I fixed helicopters in the army so no worries on the mechanical work really.

Garage - no :(

base is the way to go for sure unless you are going to get the r which you probably can find for S price since the 1299 is coming. buy the base and assume you bought the s . then take the difference and do the upgrades. oz or bst wheels and sell the base wheels. ohlins to road and track forks and ttx shock sell the other stuff. akra exhaust. you can get the lights on ebay if thats important to you. the base is by far the way to go. it will cost the same as the S with superior products.

selling your stock parts brand new will also recover some of your cost.

on another note i was at the stealership yesterday and black S was selling for 19900 instead of 25k nothing like holding value.

fyi i have an S. the reason i got it was in 2012 by me the base abs wasn't coming in for a while. i liked the wheels. so i went with the s. should have bought the tri which imo is the best 1199 out there.

The tri imo is the sexiest bike ever made. If they still did it. I would buy that without question over any other. And that sale for $19,900 ended the day before I went to my dealer to talk about a deal. :(
