460 miles on my 1299s. Went for a ride today and it started acting funny...no power no throttle response etc...pulled over the side of the road check engine light came on and I looked down and the exhaust and lower fairing was smoking and on fire. Scared the .... out of me. Any ideas,? Either way this thing getting returned.

These bikes are sooooooOOO unpredictable...That's the addiction for me... I never know when its going to .... me over...

Its under warranty, get yourself a new one..

Just order the Ducati Roadside assistance kit. It comes with a trailer hitch attachment, a trailer, a complete set of tools. a fire extinguisher and a Honda to get you home if the tools do not work or the fire becomes unmanageable. Seriously, there were a host of engineering decisions on these things that fully warranted a WTF were you thinking evaluation before going into production. Enjoy

Tankslapper, did you take any pictures of the incident that you could share? The factory lubes the chain pretty heavily right out of the dealer. Had to swipe the mufflers down after every ride. Yours could be caused by excess grease off the chain which is landing on the hot exhaust.

My R shorted out battery +Pos cable from heat soak from front exh header killed bike could have caused fire, however mine has SSTK long headers which makes this situation worse than a stock bike, but if the smoke was from front LHD fairing battery side then that's what I would guess is the possible issue

It was having issues before I pulled over so I don't think this would be it. Engine wouldn't rev and had no power. Was super bogged down and shorting out.

You know I am realizing thats its actually ....... sad that before I leave I put my truck keys somewhere accessible outside the house so that when I get stranded someone can go to my house and bring my truck to me with my ramps in it.

I just realized thats ....... pathetic I have to prep my rides with this. Seven years I had my GSXR and was in the shop one time !, for a master cylinder recall. Seven years.

1199 has been 13 times in two years.

NOLA.

u just ride in hopes the pani "spontaneously" combusts ur prostate..

I think maybe the oil drain nut wasn't screwed on properly and the oil just slowly dripped onto the hot exhaust.

its the soul of the bike nothing wrong ever with ducatis.

seriously though i don't know about the 1299 but us 1199 owners had the lower fairing melt due to touching the exhaust pipes. they put a rubber spacer to fix it . maybe it was that

still wouldn't explain the check engine light and the bike cutting off and getting bogged down before hand.

Wow brings back memories of 'Elitesoldier357'. He had a fire too. If memory serves it was oil in the lower fairing. Now he was one entertaining member on here for a while.

TS hope you find the problem. Had to be something combustable down at the mufflers if that is where is started.

true, it was a guess i think its probably what the forum member said loose oil pan bolt low oil cause of leak oil catch fire from pipes. glad you are ok. hope all turns out well

Ill keep you updated. The closest dealer is 3.5 hours away so I probably won't be able to get down there until friday.

Damn...

They should have to pick up this POS.

I believe Ducati Roadside Assistance comes with every new bike. I have several bikes and several of the cards. I recently called them for an oil leak. They contacted my dealership which picked up the bike at no cost to me.

Tom

They said they would cover up to $200 for transport. Since I'm so far away I can take it in my truck and they'll reimburse fuel apparently.

That RWHP doesn't do you much good if it's constantly breaking down.

Oh hell yes, its a ton of fun until it dies on the side of the road"¦

Just kidding there, its actually never left me stranded, or broken down that I couldn't get it home and into a truck.

NOLA
