i was going to do this at the same time as i fitted my exhausts but there doesn't seem to be one fitted.
maybe my dealer removed it during a service?
its a uk bike, do they have them?

No - the canister is only installed on bikes allocated to North America, including Canada. The purpose is to make it compliant with the California regulations.

Here's a pic of the finished job to replace the one that's aged-out on the OP. I tend to over-do it on zipties, but there's no tubing touching metal anywhere, and only the original drains are in use. The Y connector is up near the lower radiator hose clamp. The vacuum line is plugged with a M4 bolt I torqued in with a socket wrench. Ain't goin' nowhere. No hose pinching going on either.

Consistently fires up like a champ now! Especially when over 180F which was a growing problem with the charcoal canister on. Quite a bit of gas in the charcoal canister I might add, despite being super-careful to never overfill.

I need to get this done, but 4 mm "y" connectors (preferably metal) are hard to find

I found tees here

Any ideas on where to order? Metric stuff is harder to find - didn't see anything on McMasterCarr

Went to Napa and found what is needed. 1/4 inch "Y" connector.

I couldn't find anything 6 mm, let alone something that's rated for gasoline.

is the Napa part metal, acetate? 1/4" is the closest thing to 6 mm. 3/16" is a bit small. better to go slightly bigger to ensure a tighter fit.

I'd prefer to use 6 mm metal wye and silicone vac hose that withstand higher temps

I just ordered a 1/4" (6.35 mm) brass tee off McMaster and some oil resistant Buna N 1/4" tubing (part #s 44555K138 and 5235K58) - close enough

I don't think silicone is compatible with gas, but it does have a high temp rating

if u simply wanted a "T", McMaster sells a 6 mm acetate one with barbed ends that is made for use with gasoline. I have that one but a wye connector seems to fit nicer when connecting to the longer gas vent line--otherwise the shorter gas line (the one that would've gone into the charcoal canister) has to bend horizontally to fit into the "T". that's why I prefer not to use that and am trying to fit a wye. a wye would allow the shorter line to go straight down. but I may be stuck using the T since I can't even find a gasoline rated 1/4" wye, let alone 6 mm

McMaster has a stainless wye, but it is 3/16" - I'll make the brass tee work, I don't like plastic fittings

Does this modification throw a (CEL) Check Engine Light?!

I removed mine two days ago after having a hot start issue, rode it to work and around town for a bit with no issues. Then got to the track this morning and had a light by the 3rd corner. Seems to run just fine but the only thing that has changed is the canister.

Just took my '14 1199 to the dealer today to get the Oil Service light reset and asked about the hot hard starting issue. I mentioned this thread about removing the charcoal canister. Their Ducati Master tech said that completely removing it isn't necessary.

He said to leave it in but remove and plug up the vacuum line to the throttle bodies.

He said if you remove the whole canister, you could see fuel occasionally leak from the T-d hose line. Which would result in a garage that smells like gasoline. So, he reset my service light and plugged the vacuum line for me all for $30.

I plan on a nice long ride tomorrow and it will be in the upper 90's here in NC. Be interesting to see if the hard start issue really is gone.

I will let you all know tomorrow night.

Well, for those of you who have NOT removed your charcoal canister yet, you may not need to.

Yesterday, I had the vacuum line running from the charcoal canister to the throttlebody assembly removed from the charcoal canister and plugged up. Left the tank vent attached and the canister in place.

I stopped 2 times during a 120 mile ride today while it was 95 degrees Fahrenheit outside. Both times, my engine temp was reading 202 degrees. I stopped. Got a drink. Sat for about 10 min. Then hopped on the 1199 and she fired right up

As recently as 1 week ago, I took the same ride and when I went to start her while this hot. It took about 6 tries and I had to open the throttle up a little. NOT today. Not a single problem. She started on the first stab of the button both times.

Just wanted to let you all know this.
