well this thread really blew up.

I did notice, coming from my 600rr track bike with a STM slipper clutch where I could just dump the clutch quickly while downshifting with no rear wheel chatter. On the 1199, I need to release the clutch just a tad bit slower from keeping the rear end from getting unhappy while downshifting before corners. Small sacrifice vs paying for an upgraded slipper clutch.

I'm not being blunt . The guys at Whistles and Bells are trying to sell him a clutch he doesn't need . I'm trying to save him some money .

Thats one angle to view it from. Being the OP the way I see it is I've ridden with a slipper for same time, and conventional prior to. I prefer the slipper, tho the 1199's is "IMHO" less than desireable so; I started the thread to gather imput from "those who have" modded or done otherwise to improve the clutch action.
I realize everyone has their own interpritation of "how it should be" but thats not what I'm looking for.. Im not here to quarrel with anyone; I realize we all have our own philosophies, I wont try to impose mine on to you so please dont push the conversation to a debate...

I'm confused at the original premise in this thread where you say your "riding style" relies on a good slipper clutch? What exactly is your riding style that requires a lot of clutch slip? You mentioned corner entry several times, and typically the purpose of a slipper clutch is to stabilize the bike during braking, not for corner entry. If you're literally chattering your back end on corner entry with the stock 1199 slipper clutch then you have some definite issues to address, and putting a different clutch in will likely not fix it. The EBC system is designed to aid corner entry, by reducing engine braking during turn-in to allow a smoother entry with more corner entry speed. That is not what a slipper clutch does. If the slipper clutch was still slipping as you were turning in you would likely have downshifted 1 gear too many. Or you're waiting until the last second to downshift right as you turn into the corner, which is the opposite of what you should be doing. You would find it much easier to get your downshifting done ealier in the braking zone and then focus on corner entry, and you would definiltey not have your clutch slipping as you turn in. What am I missing?

Ok Jarel, where to start, all good questions and concerns. W/out getting into a "riding style" tutorial I'll address your questions.. Obviously your well versed and I'll assume nothing beyond that.
1. When I say corner entry perhaps when you break it down I mean from Initially applying the brakes "braking" downshifting, and tiping it in.. Again no one should assume I'm not familiar with the purpose of a slipper..
2. Yes I only rode the bike 40 +/- miles and its totally possible that I'll find the clutch a little better with time but that has no bearing on the simple question; I was mearly looking for feedback from riders who've done clutch work.
3. You are correct, your description of the fundimentals is accurate. I dont race at a world level and I've got my own style, and I've enjoyed the hell out of my years of two wheelin...
There is no need for picking this thread apart into the technical aspects of how to ride a motorcycle..

Sorry man . Get one of these it will fix the issue .

Dude, you just dont get it.. I dont "want" to spend the money for the sake of spending the ....... money.... Its not about that at all.. If I had my drothers there'd be a grass roots mod, letting me wrench on it myself.. Its about being comfortable on the bike, dialing it in for "me"..

I get it, you dont like the idea, your satisfied, your perfectly happy, your life is full of flowers, rainbows and stock clutches, awesome.. You dont need to impose that on me..

How is he imposing on you?
He has given some constructive suggestions with his wealth of knowledge...

Yes, i know they are different entities. What Im basically saying is when they are working in tandem W the EBC on 3 I'm still not getting enough slip from the clutch. Has anyone made and significant changes to their clutch and if so what was your method and results?

Loosen off the clutch cable .

I don't beleive I've seen a thread on here about upgrading the clutch or the slipper. This topic hasn't come up much at all since I've been a member of this forum.

Judging from the feedback I cant say as I'm surprised. Its fantastic that people like it.
When I first talked to the guy who does the big wrenching on my bikes he said, buy a bike w a warranty, we'll probably end up kitting the forks, and that I probably wouldnt like the clutch.. He's rarely wrong..
Like I said different strokes for different folkes...

Badlarry. My 1199 by far has the best clutch I've ever used 2nd only to a CBR clutch.

BTW rode race mode with EBC on LVL 3 and night and day difference. I swear the bike ran better.. Love it. It took most of the herk and jerk out of low speed (school zone) lunging it was doing.. Thanks for the thread and making me read my manual.

True, to each their own and I'm sure your mechanic knows your riding style. I guess I'm just surprised this hasn't come up before if the slipper and/or clutch isn't that great and I guess that's a chunk o cash that others might spend elsewhere before making that change or upgrade.

Oh, right on! Your psyched then!!

Yessir. Change you EBC to 3 and feel the clutch do its dirty work. The EBC on LVL 1 was psychotic. You will immediately feel a difference.

I've ridden it in 3. Kinda why I was asking if anyone had made any clutch changes; I'm pretty sure its not 100% what I want..
