FWIW, having an 1199sl and recently having sold it....

Cool bike for sure. Is it worth the $?? Not to me. Despite an msrp of 65k usd (although I bought mine used at 40k) it's a fun bike but to be completely honest my Kawasaki H2 blows it out if the water in terms of the build quality and that bike was 26k. You shouldnt have to deal with burned carbon fairing, a seat that is glued on that peels up after the heat wears on it, or oil leaks on a machine that expensive. Plus as cool as the paint job is, the carbon fairings are as brittle as hell. The inside of them should be finished better. The tabs should line up better.

Dont get me wrong I still liked the bike a lot, but I think for any rider out there wanting to put miles on your bike stick with a base, s, or r. The sl bikes are not cosmetically designed for much daily wear and tear imo. Better suited to being a garage queen with the occasional weekend ride the engine seemed fine, I'm just talking to the fairings, heat, etc

Enlighten me please, why? [emoji4]

short answer is with all the extras, extended warranty, and pre-paid services, and sales tax.. I"m into this bike for $52K... and I have no regrets. It's truly a super bike with no equal... maybe the ideal mix of crazy and manageable.. I have owned dozens of bikes over 30 years, and still own and love a 2018 S1000RR but the speciale is truly special.

Fair enough, it's better looking I find but the SL I just find more special (pun intended).

while I would love to own one, if I had a $50K wad to blow, It would be on the future of Ducati sport bikes and not the past.. the V4 is the new flagship Panigale.. and for good reasons, it's the better motor. Thus why it's their race engine and has been for years.

It's the future indeed for Ducati. I'm lucky enough to have have past and present in my collection, funnily enough an even older Ducati remains my favourite. Mind you, it's like choosing your favourite child.....

Apparently there's a test mule spotted...

Yeah I saw something on I think it was motorcycle magazine. Showed the photos and the CF wheels and side fairings. But the frame was not CF or swing arm from what you could see. Shes got to be in the 320's lbs. for me to get my hart rate up. lol If its just the rims and fairings with the V4R motor I'm all set.

There's absolutely zero chance of the V4 SL coming close to 320lbs. Race prepped 600's aren't even that light. The V2's were lighter than the V4's by a good bit and the 1299SL came in at 368lbs (wet).

My guess is it'll be in the 375-380lb range.

Yeah your most likely right. I got spoiled when I got to ride the BMWHP4 Race shes only 324 lbs.

The HP4 is 377 wet. It's also worth noting that it's a track only bike, while the SL has all of the street trimmings. Pretty impressive that the SL is still lighter.

Dry weight right??

CLoser to 380 wet

amazing bike, how is it to ride

It was a blast for sure! You really feel the weight difference. The transmission shifted like butter. Really amazing and the brakes were like dropping an anchor! But the pure sexiness of that girl is off the hook. I could stare at it all damn day! Lol Yes it's a track only bike but at the reduced pricing they are selling for now its worth it in my book. If you added up all the parts costing its huge! The Suter sing arm alone is 16k. Its an amazing machine. Sure, the SL is all that also and street legal but you'd be missing the point. The HP4R has no compromises. The intent was to build a track only bike from the ground up. The amount of adjustments on it from the head tube, rear swing arm pivots, seat height, clip on and so many more. Not to mention I got to ride it at Laguna Seca one of my dream tracks to ride! :D
