Why are there so many 1199s for sale?

Why is that? Question was asked and answered. Throw in some BMW bashing! Some name callings. And a whole lot of venting.

The horse is dead! Why are we still beating it?

Because we have got to top the legendary AR thread post count somehow, and this is as good a reason to push it up.

Most have grown tired of the I-4. I have to say that the R1 does sound really awesome at full throttle. Heard a few this past Saturday. Rest of the R1 is ugly now, a far cry from the first gen R1 which I thought was sexy.

But we do live in a good age, 2, 3, 4 cylinder bikes of various configuration available. Some more suited to your taste (or mine) than others. I have a soft spot for twins, although the 1199 is the least twin like of the ones I have owned or ridden. Still love it.

Which one?

I missed you dick! Or was that prick? Just waking up?

Dang right.

If I hadnt picked this bike I more then likely would have ended up with the cheapest one.

I would never have loved it the way I do my duc, im not a whore you know :p

I guess a similar comparison can be had between a Ferrari and a Porsche?

Now, I have always been a 911 fan, but the 458 is hot!

I want both! But can't have them right now.

But both bikes are doable in the near future.

Granted, the s1k is not the prettiest, but there is a reason for the looks.

From an engineering stand point, it makes sense. But what do I know, I am not an engineer.

Hands down. No contest, the 1199 is a better looking bike. But you guys already know that.

Now your really talking rubbish, and showing your ignorance.
I'm really starting to wonder how old you are at this point in time.

Ok, so you say you're not an engineer. I'm fine with that;)

But your statement regarding the looks of the BMW are a function of some sort of (box headed) engineering excellence or what ever it is your using in your mind to rationalizing the looks of the ugly ....... thing, is pure and absolute bunkum my friend:(

There are any number of ways to achieve an engineering outcome.
BMW, or the box heads for that matter do not hold the exclusive rights to the only pathway to absolute engineering excellence.
BMW have simply chosen to follow a particular styling pathway to differentiate their products in the market place.
You silly boy:eek::eek:
They specialize in ugly. Got it.
You've seem to well and truly bought into the BMW (blue and white) cool aid garbage.

IMO, With the exception of the 507, 635, the later M3's and the HP2 sport everything in their line up is unattractive/ugly to some degree.

I've said it before, that If they(BMW) ever get around to employing some decent stylists (and engineers for that matter) DUCATI will be in real trouble.

You're starting to embarrass yourself with such silly and nieve comments:(

No.... :) I think it makes for interesting reading..You started a thread..continue to contribute to it..so it lives on....;)

I seriously just laughed my ass off all the way in Afghanistan. Thanks STW, I needed that!

FTBO,

Your question was pretty loaded and could be interpreted different ways. The guys here are great! In my honest opinion, that is the best part of this forum; the people and personalities. Though these guys are just messing with you at the moment, have no doubt that any of them would help you in a minute if you had a technical question. I do see that you are fighting back now"¦good for you and welcome. You just need to buy the bike now!

There have been many debates on the HP4 vs. the 1199, so that is where some of the animosity is coming from. SOME have had issues and/or multiple issues with their bikes, but that does not account for everyone. I, myself have an issue with mine that I have to get taken care of when I get back stateside (leaking fork seals; minor leak on both and my bike has a little over 100 miles). No bitching here, but these bikes are no different than anything else when it comes to issues; some have them and some don't.

There are probably many reasons that people are selling their bikes. I believe that most here have provided very good reasons as to why. The 1199 upon its release was a first, so the list was long in people lining up to get one. Like most new releases, the novelty wares off for some and they sell. I really don't think that there are more 1199's than any other bike up for sale at the moment. Winter tends to bring a lot of trade-ins, the economy adds to the situation, and other various reasons.

To be completely honest, the bike is rough and a bitch to ride off the track compared to others. Personally, I didn't think anything could be more ill-mannered than my R1 LE, until I bought the 1199. For as little as I have ridden it, I can honestly say that I love both bikes and though they are in the same class (so-to-speak), they are very different and you will have to decide which one to go with.

Good luck in making your decision.

For the Canadian Guys,

I'll let you use my address for insurance purposes if you get me Health Insurance!! It seems as if we are both ......"¦just in different ways! :p

The human digestive system is a fascinatingly complex and energy efficient biological function comprising perfect coordination of the intestines, stomach, and colon, but this doesn't make the end result any more pleasant to look at or be around.

Are you calling the HP4 ....? :D

Except for when you come home at midnight or even later and the neighbors get disturbed. I've gotten a couple friendly complaints with my car but so far none with the bike. Haven't been out very late with the bike though so that would probably change lol. Oh well. My toys aren't going anywhere! Hard not to fall in love with the sound of the Pani.

If I am coming home at midnight then something is seriously wrong. I ride Sundays between 8am and 5pm. Otherwise, I am at work.:(

Well, not necessarily. I'm sure it's a fantastic bike and it does feature some attributes that I wouldn't mind being present on the Panigale, but despite the justifications BMW provides for the S1K/HP4 aesthetics, I am of the opinion that the bike's appearance is severely lacking.

The Panigale reminds me of the Porsche GT3 which is a normally aspirated rocket with racing suspension (minimal suspension travel and minimum ground clearance, very heavy clutch pedal, razor sharp handling, expensive maintenance, and the serious ability to tell u that you don't know how to drive a racing machine). In short, these machines, Panigale included, are an experience, like most exotic vehicles. It's not going to drive like a daily driver, period. You have to be receptive of the uniqueness of this bike in order to appreciate the Panigale experience. If you are not looking for a new experience in riding other than the appearance that the bike gives off in aesthetics, then you are barking up the wrong tree, IMO. YMMV

Out of all the feedback I think this one out of many K reasons may be closest. I wonder how many rode long enough to start to feel some comfort and then twisted the grip on the right too fast and scared the .... out of themselves. If they kept the rubber side down, they probably road home with little throttle and immediately put the bike up for sale. Face the fact that less than 1% of the owners have the capability of the bike. I would best that most traded to a lesser bike.

I agree totally with this assessment. I for one know I'm part of the 99%.

I think he's saying it's ...... looking ;)
Most 1199 owners will/should agree.

As I said before, I concede that the 1199 is the best looking bike. But I actually love the looks of the HP4 also. I guess beauty is in the ...
