I've seen the new S1000RR M spec in person and it is pretty underwhelming visually. Apart from the new headlights, which look great, the rest of the bike looks cheap and dated in my opinion.
It's obviously a great bike on the track, but it's even more refined than the previous generation S1000RR, so it's going to be pretty boring on the road. I owned a 2016 S1000RR and while it had great power and a crazy top end, it was quite bland to ride compared to my V4S.
Even the guys on 44Teeth said that they'd pick the V4S over the new S1000RR for street riding, as the V4S just had that wow factor and character that the S1000RR just doesn't have.
Everyone's different though and wants different things from their bikes.
I freely admit that the wow factor was part of why I bought my 1199. But it was (and still is) one of three bikes I own, and the owner of the dealer has been a friend of mine for many years so it was an easy deal. He even let me do a 100 mile demo ride on his personal 1199 before I bought mine.
But for most people who it is their only bike, I would liken it to a lady you marry. Good looks might have been a factor in asking her out on a date. But there better be more than just good looks if you want the relationship to last. I do admit though, it’s a hell of a lot cheaper to divorce a motorcycle. Don’t ask me how I know
