panigale RR on the books?

No one is gonna buy an 80k bike if thats how long its gonna last.. unless you have money to throw away then be my guest.

Really....
People bought the D16rr and slapped a GP system on it. They had all sorts of problems. Electrical, mechanical, you name it. Didn't stop people from buying it. It's a race bike and you should expect to maintenance it as such.

Looks like the RR or SL (whatever its called) will be invitation buys.. I am sticking with my R..

Rode it for the first time yesterday.. felt incredible.. acceleration is so smooth but the clutch is sensitive as hell and I needed to really ease it out real slow on 1st gear from a standstill..

I am guessing the parts would get better with use..

Well, now that you have bitten the bullet get some ear plugs as well, the last thing you want is to damage your hearing and regret it later on. Also, from what your saying about how you rode it first time make sure you dont drop it by mistake because that will be one expensive repair! Fit some evotech silders etc to protect various parts of your bike in case you lose your balance which is pretty common.

I think this is simply a response to Dorna backing down the regulations in WSBK as far as what can/can't be changed on the bike - so they're building an extremely up-spec bike to get everything they want in to WBSK. Honda's rumored V4 superbike is going the same route - it's supposedly going to be north of 100k. So we'll be back to the days of WSBK bikes being based on ultra rare limited production models (RC30, RC45, R7). I wouldn't expect any of these bikes to be available to the average Joe; they'll go to race teams or people with the right connections.

if manufacturers have to make at least 2000 (or is it 2500?) units to meet homologation requirements, how in the world does honda expect to sell their v4 superbike at over $100,000+ a pop?

i've read articles that say the d16rr sold out quickly, but i recall my local dealer having at least one or two lying around for a long while, so i wonder if the $70,000 bike was really a huge success for ducati or not (someone please enlighten me).

if it was, then maybe the 1199 sl wont be such a tough sale at a similar price. but i cant imagine a $100,000+ honda being able to achieve the same level of success.

Correct, the homologation minimum production requirement eliminates the possibility of rare, ultra limited production models being raced. From 2010 onward the minimum requirement was 3,000, although for first time applicants the number might be slightly lower for the first year. If Honda or any manufacturer can produce 3,000+ $80k-$100k bikes without risking huge monetary loss then more power to them.

more and more vibes seem to confirm a RR version being on the books for 2014..

indicated spec list would seem to include

mag or Ti frame ( mag probably )
upgraded suspension a la RR16
some more goodies
special colorscheme

price estimate around 50K euro's
invitation buyers only
limited series of 500 -

there is confirmation that this bike is being tested today...

but then there is the reality of WSBK rules changing that seems to push Corse to coming up with a different homologation bike that will surely take any part and bit of kit under review. because the rules do not do anything to close the gap between 4IL and 2L performance, Ducati will have to come up with the answers themselves... this would mean they have to sell 2K bikes over 2 years....

truth somewhere in the middle?

Kope999R,

I think the Ducati 1199RR/ETC is going to be hard pushed to improve on the work of engineering and art that is your R.

The R is more than a paint job . Titanium rods adjustable swingarm standard with a full system .

Please let me know when you need to adjust your swingarm, that sound like they 1098r blowing smoke with the adjustable headstock

Aesthetically it's not worth it -- WTF ??? The r and the base look the same oh let me guess you really think that when you ride you R @ 70 mph people are going to distinguish that litter R next to 1199 lol. I got it the R look better than the base at your local Starbucks

Sounds like alot of hate everyone is entitled to their own opinion own style of riding and own place to ride and I don't drink coffee.... If I bought a base knowing myself I would upgrade it to the amount of what the R cost... Everyone likes the way the R looks... And yes Ducati riders know the difference not regular pedestrians I bought this bike to make me happy first everyone else comes later..... Next your going to tell me what to wear and how to wear it?

So you got and R to impress Ducati rides?? Lol

I'm guessing you have a base model..... Lol.. And yes mister you did hurt my feelings!!!!!

And honestly I'm going to laugh at you fools for blowing all this smoke and "nothing" is around the corner. And if there is something around the corner my excitement will welcome it and I will drool for it like I drooled for the R...... Personal preference but the base is a lot of bike but Aesthetically its not worth it to me... If you're getting a bike of this caliber go hard or go home I've had many Ducatis and always wanted a R.....

I am in the same boat.. get the best model out there of the lineup that you feel you can afford.. only then do I have that feel good factor else I will be constantly miffed that I couldnt get the best out there..

I had to pinch my pocket quite a bit and I was lucky my dealer had a spare R in a crate and it was a no brainer when it came to making a decision on buying a bike.. took it without battin an eyelid. Took a loan that kinda works out for me and pay it off in 3 to 4 yrs..

Really if u plan on adding exhaust u should get the R.

U get Ti internals. I don't see myself moving the swing arm only once for initial setup.... I have an S I'm only doing the R cuz I want one. I can only hope to ride to the limit of this bike..

It doesn't eliminate it at all. That's reportedly Honda's plan, and they've done it before. It's not a risk, it's planned. They just have to make them, not sell them. If you don't think Honda will drop a few million on winning in WSBK, think again.

Three thousand units is neither rare nor ultra-limited so in this sense it does eliminate the possibility that a rare, ultra-limited bike can be raced by default of the requirement.

I believe the idea here was not to stifle manufacturer development but to implement a means of evening the playing field through implementing a variable of expense that manufacturers must consider when developing. This doesn't even bring into consideration the many other bike restrictions that are in place; some of which address durability and longevity. All of these components must be considered and consequently create greater monetary risk to those manufacturers who elect to race bikes that are significantly more expensive than what the field is running.

Whatever you think. Honda spent millions on a seamless transmission in GP to get a couple tenths a lap at best. If you really think that they won't build a new bike to their advantage for WSBK as has been rumored you don't know much about Honda. They p(l)ay to win.
