I did wonder about the clutch and if it would wear out quicker as it's significantly smaller. Part of the higher maintenance costs I guess.
I thought someone might suggest that the SP2 is a better bike overall. I wouldn't be surprised if that's true. It's certainly a bit of a weapon and not lacking in any way.
How do the ergonomics compare? I find the V4 very comfortable and everything immediately felt like it was in the right place.
I guess part of me simply thinks it would be nice to experience the R while I can and being offered a new one at an extremely good price has turned my head a bit and made me consider whether or not I'd like to try it.
The 23 R clutch is not significantly smaller. There’s a marginal size and weight difference meaning you won’t feel the difference in real world use apart with your wallet being significantly lighter from service costs. I’d anticipate 2000 miles out of it. Probably less if you ride on the street or do launches.
There’s no significant ergo difference. Maybe a couple mm seat height difference from different seats. But if you’re converting to track use, you personalize fit with bars, seat, and rearsets.
I’m pretty sure that a few people have recommended the ideal V4 track platform is the BASE not the superfluous SP2. And the R is reserved for racing. Trackday use of an R is overkill and is just over compensation. It will not make you a better rider. It is not faster apples to apples. Last day I was out on track, some guy in our group had his R out and he got spanked all over. I think I lapped him 3 times in the 20 minute session.
