Hmmmmm, Mixed review and feelings about the Panigale in MCN against the others

Don't really understand all the issues. Surely different people for different bikes.

I'm pretty confident my lap times would be similar on either the Ducati or BMW so don't particularly care. I'm going to have fun on it, end of.

Sure, it will have its issues. It's a bit 'lumpy' at low revs, the stand is a pain to put down whilst on the bike, and the rear shock digs into my thigh when left foot is on the floor. Something else will no doubt crop up. Let's not overlook the BMW issues though, in particular the recent recall to over 1000 bikes, with BMW no 'officially' telling owners that they cannot use them until repair works are fixed. They will however be fixed, and be excellent bikes. It's not all one sided though.

Is it just me, or could this be where the design of the BMW originated?

well you will be in for a shock when you do own one , that are not nearly as good as the hype you read about 848/1198 , i have not ridden a 1199 yet maybe next week ill test one until then i cant say what its like . i had a 1199 ordered , it was going to be built by a german team but for 47,000 euro it wasn't worth the money for just a supersport spec that hadn't proven its self so i canceled it

i raced bikes for 30 years i am retired from racing but still love to do it so i just do track days .

what makes you think that is my only bike , i brought the honda to ride at sepang in malaysia , it has been set up just for that circuit , i ride a RSV4 here at Sentul in indonesia and a GSXR 1000 in bira thailand .

i work on the bikes myself

as for ex factory bike it was built by one of the teams the bike came third at the isle of man tt last year , to buy just the forks alone would be 10,000 pounds the engine was 10,000 pounds to build also , it wsbk spec but built for endurance .

all my bikes are race/track bikes and mx bikes

like i said before enjoy your bike i know ill be enjoying mine

You are talking out of your ass.

Its not a factory bike, I'm almost certain of that.

It can't be a "WSBK spec built for endurance". Take your pick - its either an endurance bike or a WSBK spec bike. The two are different. Unless its a thrid tier WSBK spec.

I hope that yu are a good wrench, because you'll need one with your factory bike.

Yet we are the ones who made uninformed and bad decision to buy an 1199.

<facepalm>
I'vew got you beat in the racing department by seven years, btw.:p

Don't go Rhino! The fun has barely started! I just got this awesome PM from a drunken Shanes, the self professed Ducati hater:

"what is your problem ? you want to buy a ducati go and buy one , i owned one and they are .... , they don't handle they have .... all power and sound like a tractor , you know nothing about the bike iv brought so why keep going on and on about it storing .... .

you can buy half the stuff on my new bike as its for factor bikes only unless you in one of the major teams you can buy it .if you don't like fine

.... off the don't reply to my post you are a ........

buy your ducati and park im front of starbucks with all the other squids and pretend you can ride

enjoy your day idiot
"

This made my day.

:p

Anyone notice they tested the S model with the Ohlins with negligible difference. Anyone order the base model in lieu of the S? I've always felt the from factory Ohlins really were not up to it without set up for your weight etc.

You are being such an ASS. PM stands for PRIVATE MESSAGE.
You are telling him he doesn't know about his own bike.

I hope you aren't this hateful in real life.

Nobody sends me PM,s :( .............not even un-complimentary ones:D

Well this thread has made interesting reading and provoked some strange and contentious views.
I currently ride an '08 Fireblade which when I bought it was (and still is) a great bike but definately lacked "character". The first time I rode one I was blown away by the top end speed and power but at the same time was left feeling strangely flat. Yes I had arrived at the destination well in advance of my friends but I wasn't exactly shaking with an adrenalin rush. I subsequently bought one, spent almost as much again on giving it character and some uniqueness (Akro exhaust, carbon wheels, Rizoma top yolk, to mention a few of the 28 different mods) and finally have a bike of which I am proud (to some extent - it's the nicest one I've ever seen - but it is still a Honda) and enjoy riding.
When I saw the Panigale and read the hype I put an order in (Tricolore) which is due next month. I didn't put the order in because it was going to blow away all the opposition, I put it in because it is a) Very pretty, b) Technologically advanced c) As fast as I will ever want go d) Bags of character straight out of the bag and e) something I will be proud to own - even 5 or 10 years down the line. f) exclusive.
Now if that makes me a shallow person then hands up but the I would rather own a Ferrari than a Nissan - not because of the name but because of the whole experience and enjoyment of ownership. I would even enjoy washing a Ferrari but would stick a Nissan through the car wash.
I thought about a BMW (much cheaper) but it lacked at least 4 of the above criteria and they don't make car washes for bikes but I wouldn't knock anyone for going for it. Everyone has their own list of priorities and the fact that they may differ from mine doesn't make them a bad person. With more tolerance of other peoples views the world would be a much better (and peaceful) place.
Can't wait until next month. Until then it's the prettiest Fireblade in the UK for me!

Bravo what a great post!

It does seem like there is something 'alien' about this bike that is flummoxing the test riders. Even this review from Fastbikes which gives it 10/10 and #1 above the RSV4 still isn't fully convinced - although read the breakout 'Fagans Opinion" he says its the only bike that makes him 'giggle every second he's riding'

http://wtrns.fr/mN7kELT71E3DM8b

I actually think this bike is starting to become quite intriguing beyond its specs.

LOL, just been reading this thread and really don't get why some of the people are even on here.

Ducati's in general are an aquired taste, they take a special something to ride. Their power delivery is very different from Japanese and even german bikes. Hence often reviewers who spend most of their time on Japanese bikes can not get the best out of them.

Funnily enough people like Troy Bayliss and Carlos Checa can and Ducati is still kicking @zs in WSBK with an outdated bike. Soon after some more development they will be doing it with the 1199. The other bikes are all already several years into their development cycle.

Sure the BMW is fast but I can tell you one BMW I'll be beating when the Tri arrives, my Mate Jay's whose BMW has a 3" hole in the side (see an earlier post of mine) and they still haven't decided weeks later if they'll give him a new one. Believe me he's really wishing he was still on the Panigale waiting list.

Then again I'll be getting my ass on track kicked by my mate with a 07 Fireblade most likely, but he's got nearly 25 years racing experience and many many championships under his belt, I don't. Then again he's also crazy enough to do the IOM again this year.

The one thing I do know is that this will be my 4th Ducati, and Ducati have never let me down. Once they complete a year in various Superstock championships and BSB they'll be coming out with some new parts and will continue to do so, and my bike will continue to get faster and handle better for the next few years, year on year.

Ducati leads ! you may not see it or understand it, but the 1199 is most definately a "gamechanger" and the stuff you see on it today will take years to trickle onto Japanese bikes. That's why I want one, if I did drag racing I might buy a BMW, but more likely a Diavel. I ride real roads(350 Km every weekend), a couple of track days a year, and yes park up for a Coffee. There is only one bike I would buy, 1199.

Don't get it ? You are probably on the wrong forum.

I'm a whore... I'd like to own the s1000rr, rsv4 and the 1199s... Err not to mention most of the ducs. I chose the 1199s because I can't afford all of em, but the 1199s is giving me the biggest hardon. I surf by myself and I ride by myself. You can't enjoy something until you enjoy it by yourself. I'm sure Stoner, Lorenzo and Rossi would bust all of us on a 250. Enjoy what you have the rest is pointless.

My thoughts above.

Not sure whe Charlie Foxtrot thinks you are lacking intelligence.

+1 I'll make a final decision on the 1199 vs the Ape after demo rides (as well as more forum feedback from ALL - good & bad)

Shanes' logic train ran off the track when he claimed he bought the best bike for his recreational trackday use (a non-factory CBR1000 supposedly with a WSBK tier motor, running high end Ohlins, slicks, etc.) but at the same time ragging on the lack of logical thought involved in the process of buying a Ducati (he hates Ducatis).

I think its stupid for a trackday punter to buy the bike he did (it is).

He thinks I'm stupid, with all the rest of you too, for buying an 1199.

End of story.

You may have a point there, but I'm mainly focused on...
1) Gathering many points of view from those on this forum who have rec'd their 1199s
2) Filtering out the "meaningful bits of info"
3) Taking my demo rides (1199 ranked #1 at this point, followed by trying the RSV4)

and then... hoping that all the above will firm up my initial decision to buy another Ducati.
