Hmmmmm, Mixed review and feelings about the Panigale in MCN against the others

I'm without mine tonight - dropped it back today so they could fix the neutral light on the dash not showing which was annoying because you had to hold the clutch in to start it etc. no biggy but since it had 25km on it I thought may as well change the oil & filter based on what I read on this forum. Plan to change oil again 2-3 more times before 1000kms just to be extra safe. Thanks for the run-in advice on here guys :)

RE race results Jedi, keep in mind this is still super early in the piece for a brand new bike both in terms of setup & learning the best way to ride it. I'm surprised the rider even had the electronic suspension to begin since most racers will change springs etc depending on conditions as per the superstock 1199s.

Any racer quick on 1198s isnt necessarily going to be as quick or quicker on the 1199 because it is not simply an 1198 with more power - its a totally different bike from the ground up. Whereas with say the new ZX-10R that really is very similar to the last model with a few more ponies & better electronics so a rider going from the previous model to the new one would realistically be faster straight away with the same riding style. If the new ZX-10 had a single swingarm, monocoque etc it would take longer for said rider to be quicker but should be quicker in the long run.

I still think its quite astounding that BMW have thrown everything at WSBK & still haven't won a single race! Not exactly a world beater at the highest level! There's that old saying - "Torque wins races"!!

Hey Spilly great write up and thank you.

I never had any doubts about this bike that is why I am buying it.

By the way Warren Lee's bike had the Superstock System fitted when tested, from what I understand the bikes are getting 185 with the Termi's and 70mm headers.

Is the Superstock system the same as the full Termi system but with the headers made out of titanium? Cheers

From what I understand it must be a larger and different configuration as you have to change the radiators to fit it on. Ill find out more on this as I only had a quick convo on the subject.
I have been told that to buy the whole Superstock kit is around $40,000AUD, but is only being sold to race teams.

Basically BMW still king on track and road. I know its only one review but a similar story keeps cropping up. Its questioning my purchase, what with being a bit pissed off with delivery time and it being £25k towards my 991 when i already have the S1000rr I'm wondering wether i need this Ducati.......

I can scan a post up if you haven't seen the review
Yes can you please scan it.
If not, let me know and i can supply an email address to send a copy to. Thanks.

My buddy was traveling the other day and stopped at a dealership (Denver I think) and they had 4 1199's sitting on the showroom floor for sale, unsold!!

Yeah I've heard the headers on tge WSB bikes are all titanium but wasn't sure if they were bigger than 70mm. That's $12K alone for the 1198R apparently. Titanium exhausts would look great on the Pani & maybe reduce some heat but I ain't that rich!

Speaking of heat, the Pani's engine temp seems to get Warner quicker than the 98 but the heat to legs & crotch isn't as bad - can wear non Kevlar jeans no probs. Can also wear sneakers as the gear shift is much easier on the toes.

whats the go with you bud,yet to see a post from you that doesnt try and bring the bike down, why dont you piss off to one of your other forums and bag the ducati out somewhere else.

yeah..spilly...I hear you and concur...

my issues not with the bike...but the marketing campaign...

its still early in the season here the rider ( chris leeson ) has raced internationally... actually came 3rd in one of the heats...the 1199 suits a tight track with not very long straights , the IN4 hp is still much stronger from about 260 km upwards..

but I also think that for the price we paying ..it should do something phenemonally... ( before I get roasted by duke supporters...Im an avid fan of the brand :D) excluding its goddess like looks of course...

Oh - was he trying to imply the 1199s aren't selling?? I thought he was saying how unusual it was for a dealer to have available stock because of the backlog. I've never known of a bike in more demand in my life!

I hear you but what about the Pani cracking highest top speed of 319kph in Superstock?

Also, re price, keep in mind that the price hasn't gone up - its the same as the 1198. Not saying its cheap but I'm actually a bit surprised they didn't put the price up considering totally new design, backlog + the fact they are still getting $34K for 1198SP's (with free Termi's thrown in since 1199 launch). If you were to add ABS, electronic suspension & lighter wheels as options on the 1198SP you'd think they'd be worth >$5k right?

(Figures in AUD)

there where guys looking for bikes and they said there where 4 at a place for sale , all i was doing was saying there are some there if someone wanted one

my mate has been riding his on track for the last 3 days , he said it was a lot better than the 1198 , i would have gone and tested it today with him as he wants me to try it , but i had meetings at work .

said the suspension was good and had enough adjustment to make it handle a lot better than 1198 , turn in was better than 1198 but still could be quicker , traction was good and engine smooth , he is still waiting for his Termi to turn up .

i don't hate the bike , i just didn't to buy a bike just to throw half of it away to make it handle for the track only .

my bad then shanes, i apologise, but why would you have to throw half of it away if you havent even ridden it? I also havent ridden it yet,ive got a deposit on a tri,and also on the fence at the moment.

i got a quote off a german team that builds the superstock bikes , they work closely with Ducati corse .

to build a track focused bike , Forks went , shock , triple clamps , rear sets , master cylinder , sub frame , full system , fairings etc etc .

its the most expensive superbike out there standard , so i canceled my order and brought a ex race bike better cheaper option

i thought about buying an Enfield diesel because of the fuel economy, but went for the panigale, therefore i wouldn't need so many modifications for going on the track occasionally... was the overall cheaper package. (you know importing from india, the customs, all the required motor work,...) :)

i like the smile in Mr. Daytona's eyes, he seemed to be quite surprised.

Hhhhmmm... hope the twitchy front end he refered to (and I felt several times during my spirited street ride), can be dialed out. Really want to get this bike.

He was basically just saying the front and rear suspension were unbalanced, which is the same thing others have noticed. Sure, it would have been nice if it came set up better out of the box, but the thing is highly adjustable, both in suspension and electronics. Flip the link and set the sag at least, maybe put a different spring on back for running the flat rate (or in the front if the rear is right for you), find the happy spot in the damping adjustment, and you're good to go. Keep in mind, that's his first impression climbing on it cold and not set up for him, and he obviously wasn't up to speed on the bike's features or adjustability. Actually sounded a bit like some of Hodgson's (another former WSBK champion)first impressions. Wasn't sure about it at first, was surprised at how different it felt from the former generations, then got it dialed and grew a big smile.
