Would you choose a V4R or SP2 for trackday use?

I’ve not ridden it at all yet, but I will very soon.

Personally, I would stick with the SP2 for the road. I’ll update when I have ridden it, but it’s only going to be at low revs to run the engine in.

I agree. Although I am very curious as to how the R and SP2 compare on the road. Not enough to justify moving forward with purchasing one. Even getting a good price on a new R, I will still end up taking a huge L on the SP2. They seem rarer compared to the R anyway. Just my two cents.

He said that he doesn’t ride on track.

@gtomachine710 How are you enjoying the forum so far? 🫣🤣

Thanks for asking. Mainly made the account to get an update from you on the R lol. Some people seem harsh on here which is expected on forums, that's why I'm not on that many. A lot more friendly folks on the Facebook groups.

I had a 22' V4S and I have a 23' V4R currently. The V4S is essentially a bare bones SP2 so it's a close comparison. The V4R feels dramatically different in the way it delivers power. It needs to be revved quite a but more and lacks the torque in the midrange that makes the V4S feel so aggressive. The V4R by comparison has a much smoother power band. It is noticeably less twitchy and the acceleration feels much more linear than the V4S. I preferred my V4S when it came to riding characteristics just because I didn't need to rev it out as much to have fun. I have no regrets with the V4R and given the choice I would actually choose the V4R again just because I think it's a cooler bike due to the homologated engine and racing elements. Logic would dictate that the standard V4S engine is better, but ultimately all of these bikes come down to a personal choice. The difference is immediately noticeable riding them back to back. V4S is aggressive and angry, the V4R is smooth and refined, but still has that anger at the very top end

Appreciate the input. I'm sure even though the torque is less twitchy in mid range, it's still fast as hell. My only gripe is even though the SP2 is a V4S with the added accessories, the V4R doesn't come with any of them, and at that price point I would just expect more. Yes, I know you can add the accessories but that's not the point. If I were coming from a V4S and considering the R it would be no brainer and would likely get the R. I ironically went from a 22 V4S to the SP2. Either way they are all superb in their own way. It's not like the V4 engine is bad, which some on here make it seem that way compared the the R. As if we're comparing a V6 to a V8. Simply isn't the case.

Speaking solely about the engine, I definitely prefer the standard 1103cc for street/ canyon riding. It’s more fun and feels faster most of the time

180km today.

Obviously I’m not going much over 6,000rpm as I’m running the engine in, so I’ve no idea what the engine is like in the higher revs where the power is. It certainly seems keen to drop into a turn though (too keen on one roundabout, necessitating a quick lift up of the bike).

It was a great day though - I got to my destination and found my pocket was open and my phone was gone… Obviously I don’t carry cards or cash and I didn’t have enough fuel to get me home… awesome. 🫣 Fortunately it’s a place where there are quite a lot of bikers and one of them filled my tank up and gave me his bank details so I could pay him back. Nice people. 👍

I started the journey home and the road was closed by the police… great (and no navigation to plot other routes). 🫣 I had a guess and ended up going down loads and loads of the bumpiest country roads I’ve ever been on. Fortunately I had the perfect bike for this… it’s lucky I don’t have any fillings in my teeth… 🫣😭🤣

I’ve just made it home, no sign of my phone where I thought it might have fallen out at a petrol station where I used it to fill up before starting my journey and ‘find my phone’ says it’s turned off, so it’s either been found and quickly turned off or it fell in the road and got smashed to smithereens… And I’m aching. A lot. I should probably put the standard seat back on while I’m doing these longish slowish rides as it might be a tiny bit more comfortable.

All in all, a great day!🤬🤣

I’m off to the pub with my girlfriend’s iPad. Thank god I didn’t pay for Apple Care… now I get to buy a new iPhone, after buying the last one in December 2023. 👍

I once lost Xiaomi MI Mix out of RAM mount in Italy. Was gutted and never managed to find it. I was on KTM SDR 1290 that vibrates a lot and it must have just slipped out of rubber holder.

@gtomachine710

I got the R and currently have both the R and SP2.

The SP2 is very often spoken about in the way that has happened above. I’m not sure why there’s the hate from a few but there’s plenty of love for it out there.

It’s actually good value IF you want the items that it comes with - better master cylinder, DDA, Superleggera carbon wheels, dry clutch, remote adjuster, Rizoma rearsets and probably some other bits that I’ve forgotten.

better master cylinder what ? can you elaborate here please ?

The SP2 has a different brake master cylinder with remote adjuster that sits by the clutch lever. It also has different calipers. I believe they're the same ones that come on the Superleggera. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Both have Stylema but the SP2 has the Stylema R (vented pistons).

The master cylinder on the SP2 is a 16.19/20/21 MCS. The R has a fixed 16.21.

Its tolerable on public roads. After few kms the "red" line moves to 8000 rpm and that's 170kmh :)

I also forgot my earplugs and so now I can’t hear anything… the girlfriend thinks I’m ignoring her. 🤣

My wrists are feeling it a bit as well because I haven’t turned the levers down like I usually would because I’ll be taking the bars off and going aftermarket.

All in all, a rather splendid day! 🤣

I can’t wait for the run-in period to be done…
