Would you choose a V4R or SP2 for trackday use?

Not that I need to justify myself to you but it’s the low resolution on the online purchase you make…. A world away from stealing a £300 seat!

Try to add something positive how about an action picture of you?

Would I be right in assuming that a radiator guard is unnecessary and potentially unhelpful on track?

I guess it could be useful if sliding through gravel? 🫣

It will only be on track so I wondered if it was necessary but I guess it can’t hurt. My current bike never had any heat issues with one of them on the bike. I think I used Evotech and it fitted well.

v4 power....just saying repeat vid recorded from a GSXR1000 guy who came up to me in the paddock and couldn't believe what was going on..

I had a guy come up to me at Most - second fastest guy there on a new S1000RR - telling me he was wide open on the throttle as he got level with me out of the final corner and I had just buggered off down the straight (and I wasn’t on 100% throttle and I was slightly short-shifting). I’ve got the Akrapovic and standard Ducati map for that exhaust but yes, these bikes are rather rapid. 🤣

I assume the general view is that it’s worth spending an additional 939 Euros for an extra two years of warranty?

Apparently the bike is already with them and unboxed and I guess it should be ready for collection in a few days or so… that was quick.

Do they cover valve adjustments? Or is that on you? I'm thinking with your intended use you'd have broke it in the first 2 years if it was going to. What you'd be getting is coverage of the electronics.

It’s a warranty rather than a maintenance program so I guess that would be on me.

I don’t usually pay for extended warranties but wondered if it might be worthwhile - engine blows up or something could get a bit expensive (although I’m sure there would be some attempt to wriggle out of it).

I have always looked at extended warranties as something manufacturers offer to pad their margins, not something to help the consumer.

I have never purchased an extended warranty for anything and figure over the last 20-30 years that I have ultimately saved enough to pay for a new Ducati by saying “no thanks” every time.

I‘ve always been the same way with this sort of thing. I got four years automatically with the SP2 and it certainly won’t hurt resale, but it probably just makes it a slightly easier sell rather than actually adding any value.

FYI on the radiator guards. I noticed the bike does run hotter. I noticed it on both v4s we had as well as my v4r. I was typically at 2 bars on the heat while doing canyon rides and now I’m usually at 3 while hitting two once I’m at 90mph+. Prior to the guards everytime I would go 45-50mph plus it would seem the bike would return to 2 bars in a matter of seconds.

Interesting. I have thought about removing the radiator guard but leaving the oil cooler one in place or removing both all together. Do you think the reduction in temp is worth the possible damage?

I never had any issues while I wasn’t running it. For me the piece of mind and the aesthetic is enough reason for me to keep them. I’m not riding at slow enough speeds for long enough to where the slightly higher temp is an issue. At my normal riding speeds 60-100ish there’s very little difference in the temp. I just noticed it takes faster speeds to cool off compared to when I didn’t run any at all

Fair point. Do you run them? My take in this conversation is more about increasing street time.

Checking my left leg to see if I'm smoldering has left me not wanting to ride more than once. Never mind the heat rash below my left knee. If it's over 90F I just assume leave it parked.

On a track day in full leathers, I've never noticed the heat.
