Hmmmmm, Mixed review and feelings about the Panigale in MCN against the others

We have riders from your neighborhood attending....they do have family here though. I'll bet that CO twisties are every bit as good or better than smokies twisties.

Power is a big factor here in CO - when you start hitting 11,000 ft altitude you loose quite a bit of power. Good trade off for the spectacular views of snow covered mountains while you ride. I lived on the East coast for a number of years and CO is my favorite riding in the US.

I also lived in Europe for 3 years and the riding through the alps may be even better.

Ouray CO is the closed riding experience to riding through the alps.
Munich to Breganze was a blast.

Motorrad mag in Germany has ranked Panigale 6th in their latest group test with the BMW 1st!! I guess we could accuse them of bias but really they're just continuing he trend started in the UK. Will post the page for you German speakers out there later on.

keep in mind that everyone knows that the MOTORRAD crew is infected by the BMW virus ever since - i was an intern at BMW motorrad and the guys knew, they could rely on that. And - MOTORRAD is the old men's magazine - they give scores for heated grips and seats!!!!!

1.the bimmer defends its title without a challenge. no other bike combines everyday usability and racing spirit like the bike from munich.

2. the blade is the most versatile. it only scores high in safety (the superb ABS) but is constantly good

3. one place down for the zx, because the blade caught up

4. the motor is an experience, the chassis is superb, but no scores in safety (yet - no abs) and versatility in everyday use

5. gsx-r: model overhaul went well, the motor is very good, but no traction control

6. pani: the extreme setup (???) costs too many points in everyday use. anyhow,a huge step forward, compared to the 1198

7. RC-8: loses ppoints due to lacking TC and ABS. the motor is the better V2

8. R1: no abs,but still quite entertaining

9. MV:abs alone wouldn't help her, als well as the extra power does not. a bike for enthusiasts.

guys, forget about what MOTORRAD writes. my friends and me haven't ever bought an issue. PS is the magazine what counts - period.

i can do a full translation tonight.

Looks like they dinged the Pani hardest for the lack of torque (worst rating of all the bikes there) and rear suspension. Looking like A) the out of the box springrate is not suited to the flatrate link position, and B) making a twin run with the 4's on top requires some compromises elsewhere.

In other testing, I see motousa have their all-bike comparo in process and are posting a few FB pics and twits. Shame their pro pilot Steve Rapp broke his wrist at Infineon this weekend, would have been interesting to see his laptimes versus last year since they're doing it at Chuckwalla again. Interesting sidebar from last year was that in all their testing, both SS and SBK, he went quickest on the Daytona 675R; even quicker than any of the literbikes.

Thanks for the translation, really appreciate the fast work, I think we get the gist though, don't waste any more time translating.

It does sound like the F setting is to blame again!

Thanks Phil for the translation & perspective RE Motorad positioning.

Even they say the Pani is a big step up on the 1198 - that's really all I need to know! Did they test a non-ABS base unit?

Steve B - that's very interesting RE the pro racer for motousa getting his quickest of all lap times on the 675R. I think that's the nail in the coffin in the relevancy of lap times to evaluate the 1199.

One thing I noticed when the 1198S was in the litre bike shoot outs in AMCN mag here in Oz was that it was the bike that all the testers who had a variety of capability & experience were either fastest or 2nd fastest on. This is presumably due to the torque, TC & mid-range. I wonder if the 1199 will be the same in that sense - I get the feeling it will be faster but a little trickier to master.

I guess the bottom line is that every post I read on multiple forums where the poster has actually taken delivery of their own bike, they have nothing but great things to say about it.........and that speaks volumes for me.

Every bike has some issues....GSX-R's with cracked frames, Cbr1000's using oil, S1000rr vibrations through the bars, the 1098 stalling issue and even my RSV4 need to have the entire engine swapped before I could take delivery:eek:

so no doubt there will be some teething issues with the 1199 that will be seen through. There is also no doubt in my mind that Ducati has produced a beautiful (in my eyes), technology packed modern motorcycle that will be a joy to ride on the street where it will spend most of its time with me.

if all I cared about was a spec sheet or a shootout I never would have bought some of the bikes I did. If the beemer had 300hp I still would have chose the RSV4 over it as after a test ride of both the BMW felt like EVERY in line 4 I have ever purchased (read A LOT) albeit with a lot more ponies but the sound and looks of the RSV4 won me over and I never regretted it one bit.

Call me crazy but rejecting the 1199 before even taking it for a ride and experiencing it yourself seems a bit short sighted to me. But that is just my humble opinion.

You take your logic right out of this thread!!!

:D ;)

So, just checking out Motorcycle.com's pictures on FB of the start of their European liter bike testing, and they have the Pani set to F:
